Fitting an Outside 12 Volt Awning Light to a Motorhome

Nice little DIY job. I just bought a Hymercar Free so I won't modify anything for a couple of years. I did fit LED strip lights in my VW camper van recently to replace ageing bulbs and that was a fun job too.

Hi Ian, the Hymercar has a steel body so you could buy those battery operated proximity lights and glue magnets on them. You could then attach them to the Hymercar - glue some fabric over the magnets so they won't scratch. No drilling and you could have as many as you want when you want. Do be afraid of a little DIY. It makes you understand the camper more I find

Thanks now mine has been installed. The last one i left on all during Covid 19 as it was blacker than night time! Now that i have a new one it has a SENSOR it came without instructions so is been wired up and, do i leave the light on all the time as it comes on and will it go off during the daytime? It operated when it was installed but i need it to go off can you help sort this for me thanks

Hi Noeleen, if your awning light has a proximity sensor then I would have thought that it only comes on when it gets dark. The light I have a attached to our house has settings to alter the sensor sensitivity. Does you light have settings? Does your light come on during the day?
