One of the best fragrances ever made period. It’s my signature scent.

one of my most favorite Hermes perfums, maybe even a bit more than Bel Ami Vetiver ... simply perfect leather fragrance with Hermes heritage

Nice review, I love Bel Ami and I bought it for the first time this winter. I am from Croatia and we are now in summer . I haven't used it a lot in the winter so I am discovering it in the summertime and I must say that I enjoy it a lot. Now I use it mostly on the skin so I still have to understant it on fabrics in winter or cooler weather in general🙂

Dobar dan... it has a very different feel summer vs winter... I look forward the warm weather returning so I can take Bel Ami out for a turn. 👍

I really enjoy the original and was able to get my hands on one from an Hermes boutique. I also like the new version but prefer the original. The Bel Ami Vetiver is also pretty good.

I am familiar...purchased in the 90s, still have 7/8 of the bottle left...batch 3L1A4. It is kept in a fridge with all my others. I have always found it a bit strong for my liking, yet do bring it out every few of years.

Oh my goodness!!! Finally! I know this one and I have the book-read it a few times-in fact, at the beginning of this summer! I get the Chypre and vanilla from it. I tend to prefer vintage for the reason you discussed. (And that’s all fragrances) I have to say that I really enjoy your reviews because they are far more than that -you have a very affable way of explanation. It is as if you are a natural teacher and I mean that as a complement. I have no idea that the inspiration for the scent came from a book and I love to know things like that so thank you! ✨

Such lovely words, thank you! I get a cola-type vibe from Bel Ami, with a delectable woody lilt.

I have two versions of this... the shaker and the re-release, I actually prefer the re-release
@dimitrisorceryofscent2 жыл бұрын
Proof positive that vintage isnt always the superior mix. The good folk chez Hermès have done a great job in preserving Bel Ami's integrity.

@@dimitrisorceryofscent I feel like the 02 re-release I've got is more wearable, my shaker smells black... tarry, metallic. I like that about it but only in small doses

@@RichMitch there are subtle differences between all 4 repackagings, but nothing too divisive. Enjoy those gems!

That's right Rich. The first reformulation is good, but for me shaker bottle is amazing !

@DIMITRI Sorcery of Scent Tnx for the great review. Actually I had Puredistance M its the best fragrance I ever had. How would you compare those two? How close are they? Thank you
@dimitrisorceryofscent Жыл бұрын
Theyre really REALLY close. Roja said M was his tribute to B.A, at a time he thought it would never be reprised. Fortunately, he was wrong.

@@dimitrisorceryofscent I guess I have to find Bel Ami new formulation that is only available and buy like 5 bottles then :)) Thank you...

Bel Ami, fortunately, hasnt suffered much with reformulation over the years. I believe it (and its delicious sibling, Bel Ami Vetiver, can be found on the hermes website.

Do you find it natural smelling? Jean-Claude Ellena is known for using Iso E super (obvious in recent Rocabar). Do you get it in the recent Bel Ami?
@dimitrisorceryofscent Жыл бұрын
It smells like cola, so in some ways, not a natural smell. Iso E not especially front and center.

In comparing Puredistance M with Bel Ami I'll say that IMO Puredistance M doesnt smell all that much like Bel Ami in the beginning. Puredistance M is beastly, & its Citrus Notes combined with its Cinnamon & Clove are brutal for hours. That combination is way too strong to discern any other notes. The Leather note in "M" is also different. Its not until the Citruses & Spices wane in its late dry down stage & I begin to pick up on its Resins, Oakmoss, Patchouli, Vetiver, Carnation, & Musk that it finally smells like Bel Ami. But by that time "M" is headed toward the end of its wearing.

That being said, Roja himself admitted he set out to capture the mood of Bel Ami. I feel he succeeded.

Always loved the original, and hated the remake wich smelled like a cheap knock off
@dimitrisorceryofscent Жыл бұрын
How odd that you feel a vast difference between the two. I feel Bel Ami has not suffered through reformulation, but rather the vintage has triumphed through decades of maceration.
