i worked there at the start of the pandemic to december last year and i would say the pay is decent. People just don’t realise with that job you have to do a lot of parcels to make good money from it. So many people i saw come and go because they can’t stick to it and think it’s great money from the get go! Especially if you are living from that wage you have to be mindful that the volumes can change so you have to find extra rounds to do to make up the numbers, which a lot of people don’t do because they don’t want to learn a new area (generally speaking). But if you’re doing it for a bit of extra money i’d say it’s definitely worth it, i loved it and it’s nice to see someone else who enjoys it☺️ Everyone hates on hermes but i’ve had rubbish delivery services from all the companies, i personally think it’s boils down to the individual who’s doing the delivering and not the company as whole!

I've been doing hermes 9 years now and like any job there are good and bad sides to the job in the 9 years I've been there things have changed some good and bad the company is out to make money like any Company but the main things you have to watch with hermes is say your ill its your problem to find cover and if u can't find cover you have double volume next day plus a warning, another thing check the amount of packets and standard parcels you get because they send a higher amount of packets when they are standard so they don't have to pay you as much but you can upgrade them on couriers online, i do 2 rounds as its my full time job so I'm out a good 7-8 hours a day so if u like driving, delivering parcels then its good job to have

Hey mate, I'm currently looking into working for hermes but I'm worried about wear and tear on the car I'll be driving. You've been doing it for 9 years so thought I'd ask how many cars you've beeb through since working for hermes? It's literally the only thing putting me off at the moment 😄

@Spiritual Jay hi mate, in 9 years I've been through 5 cars, currently using a van which is on the way out, tbh mate if your on a lower paying round the less wear and tear you'll have, the higher paying round the more the damage but it's what's best for you I do 2 rural rounds and wouldn't change it for the world but you may happier doing a town round, less mileage no wear and tear but you won't earn as much money so its whatever suits you maze

I used to work for Hermes and they do destroy your soul after some time. However I feel like you've got it really good and sounds like you have a good manager. You've also got a better work ethic than most people I know too. I believe what people mean by you make no money doesn't really apply to you right now. As you do this part time and it's not your main focus. For me I worked 6 days a week every week only get Xmas, Boxing, New Year's day and the odd bank holiday off which always resulted in double the amount of parcels coming through. I made decent money. 4 to 5 thousand a month but I burned out and managers were not accommodating in the slightest. You're lucky that you get to pick your shifts. I think you should stick at it for the time being but not forever. I'm glad I'm out of it. I got so burnt out that I phoned in sick for the first ever time in the years that I was there working and they sacked me for it. But I'm in a much better place now. But more power to you for having more control over how they treat you.

You need to calculate your total running costs per mile to include wear & tear tyres oil etc. cost per mile to run your car you should be looking at 30 to 40 pence per mile. Your car resale value will be effected by the high mileage on your vehicle. It may at face value look like you are initially earning good money but over a period of say 4 years your vehicle will have very little resale value as it will have high mileage. And you would have needed to save some of your earnings for a replacement vehicle.
@Toby_the_Glen2 жыл бұрын
Yes, plus the increased wear and tear. The big problem is that you have no 'back up', if you have a puncture or breakdown 'mid round' you are in trouble. Your car needs to be super reliable, more so than someone just commuting to the office.

What the best way to load the car up for the rounds? I’ve just started and it’s taking me ages to deliver, any help would be much appreciated xx
@roberttucker8052 жыл бұрын
I've been working on and off for Hermes and now Evri for ten years. If you know your route you should load as carefully you can making sure you put the last drops in first and load so the first drops are close to the tailgate. Boxes can be a pain but I usually put them in on the deck so they don't topple over. It takes a bit of practice but it's worth doing it because it saves a lot of time when you're delivering. If you're on a round you're not familiar with it pays to take some large bags so you can put parcels for roads where you're doing lots of drops so you can get to them easily. I can knock out a hundred a day in about four hours without having to drive like a nutter and still have time for the occasional chat with the customers. Good luck 🤞

@jakehowie4422 жыл бұрын
You mean road tax right? She probably doesn’t reach the 12,500 income tax threshold. Her NI contribution will be very low. If you put it this way, anyone pays for insurance, Road tax, MOT etc for their car. She is just paying for her private and work vehicle at the same time. So really she’s not paying much more than any worker who doesn’t use their car for work purposes. This is beneficial to her since she is driving such an old, small car which has low value. Driving a 3 year old Honda, or Mercedes different matter. I know people who drive for Evri now and they all have pretty old cars. You can’t have a new, expensive car, since you’re adding too much mileage and adding to wear and tear. Now high fuel costs too. Overall, this job is good for her situation as 20 year old student, but it’s not a sustainable job to live off beyond that. You will have to deliver 150-200 parcels a day to make a liveable income. A lot of the burden is on the driver themselves at Evri, compared to Tesco and Waitrose drivers that just do the safe driving and get the van with reverse cameras, uniform, sat nav, insurance coverage, paid hourly regardless, everything. Argos or supermarket driver best delivery job. Though these driver jobs are more time pressured and companies expect much higher service quality.

Hi really enjoyed your videos and love your positivity and work ethic but wondered how your car insurance is affected by business use? You've not mentioned it in the 2 videos I've seen and am worried about you not being aware of it. Take care. Steve 👍

I mentioned insurance in this video! I said the fact I work for Hermes affects it a tiny amount, but still very cheap and affordable as I have a small old car and no claims :)

can you explain if and how you do tax return please? i’ve gone through the application process and just need to sign the contract to become a courier but the tax return is the only thing i have doubts about. I’m also a uni student like yourself!

I did mine online. Its very easy. Make an online account. Make total of all income and record mileage allowance as expenses.

You get £25 just working Sundays. Good for you. As for me, I'm doing food delivery similar to Deliveroo/Uber Eats - And for me just to get at least 250 ringgit(MYR), I've to complete hundreds of orders first.

Just Wonderin if you're still working with them as I've placed an order and it's been delayed should of been here last Monday its been a week now I've ordered a £300 bike still nothing just delay after delay any help from your side if possible

You need to speak with the company you ordered the parcel from, you asking a courier this question is like me walking into McDonalds and asking the person on the till why the head office rejected my application for an IT job.
@marksudlow50832 жыл бұрын
It looks like your round is rural, you get more per parcel for rural deliveries... also, the reason why people say it doesn't pay is because they don't persevere with the job... I've had my round for 2 and a half years, and I'm upset if I don't do 45 to 50 parcels an hour.. that's over twice as much an hour that I was getting paid for royal mail... should have done it 15 years ago...

I also think People dont work long enough to really know the job and be better in it. I'm a single mum and just apply for that job. I need steady income when kids are at school. Cons are I can work when I want and evri is a good place to get experiance and if the pay will be so horrible for few months move else where if really needed. Guy who makes deliveries for evri for years in my aera is there for years and is very happy with the job also he needs to hire someone to help with his deliveries sometimes as he has so many. So maybe it all depend what People are looking for and if they want to work at all 😏 well wish me luck with my evri Journey and hope I will be as happy with it as you are 💪

@@Dominisia1 I'm sure you will be fine!! Just remember, the more you do the same round, the quicker you will get at it and the more money you will get.. you also have to be prepared to get wet from time to time... so get some wet gear!! Let me know how you get on, good luck!!

@@marksudlow5083 thanks for your replay. I was sick so just starting next week a bit stressed have to say. Is it better to pick the round with more postcodes or with higher rates less postcodes but further away ? Thanks again 🙂
@marksudlow5083 Жыл бұрын
@@Dominisia1 if they give you the choice, take a residential round rather than rural one... at the start just group the parcels into the same roads, you don't need to be going back to a road you have already done.. like I say, once you get to know where you are going you can halve the time it takes to do it...

How much does it cost you to add business car insurance on using your car to deliver parcels as this is a legal requirement ?
@matts76762 жыл бұрын
When I was doing it, Hermes provide you with insurance from a 3rd party, costed about £1 or slightly less for everyday you deliver for them!
@delboyderek_enough_is_enough2 жыл бұрын
@@matts7676 You have to make sure that Business use insurance is covering your car. There is also the question which insurance covers the parcels if they are stolen from your vehicle. I take it that insurance is in place also ?

Depends on how many accidents or points you have best to compare online as not all companies do business car insurance for parcel delivery

Hi, your videos are very motivating :) I've booked my first few cover rounds from the app. I'm worried about organising the parcels in my car, what do you mean by post codes? Since I've requested my rounds through the app, I'm I going to get average parcels like people who have fixed days? I did ask for fixed days but no thing has been said yet :(

And where do you leave parcels when you have no instruction to leve in a safe place Would you leave under a Bush in a public area on a door step that's on a public street and if instructed to leave in a safe place would you put else where, and Hermes is now EVRI
