Such a great story. It's a fortunate alignment that exactly what you wanted is one of the types that they could guarantee. I think at some point you mentioned admiring the box leather too. Unfortunately, so many fashion/designer houses have strayed from this, cheapening the experience. As you mentioned, this is why “luxury is dead” in a world dominated by instant gratification, like fast fashion, Amazon Prime delivery and dupes. Hearing about your experience and the attention to detail, patience, and Hermes craftsmanship was so refreshing. How wonderful! Things have become so much more challenging since I bought a Kelly and later a Birkin at Hermès right off the shelves at the Saint Honoré boutique decades ago. But except for the payment, yours was a dignified, reasonable experience. My unsolicited advice? Take reasonable care of it, but don't baby it. Live with it, love it. Let it age beautifully along with you. My bags are as beautiful as the day I bought them. Oh, and NO twillies.

Congrats on your Birkin! Banks block purchases at high end luxury boutiques that are targets for fraud all the time. You have to call them in advance and tell them you’re making the purchase. It’s not just at Hermes.

Most people who would like to purchase a quarterback from the RS boutique are not given the reassurance you felt that they would simply be contacted within a year. They’re told that the bags are really hard to get and strung along. I’d be happy to wait too if there were actually a process for waiting instead of just mysteriously spending more and more and sucking up to a sales person.
