Mumbo, you made a comment about the new blocks being perhaps a sole reason (if not THE sole reason) you feel better about building. Not intending to overshadow or simplify your experience at all, and maybe it was intended as a light-hearted joke, but from an audience perspective, you have been an amazing builder. I have only been watching since season 7, but the way your brain seemingly is able to put together certain ideas and concepts, specifically with putting shapes and lore-pieces together is truly something to behold. Like having a golden and living heart at an ancient temple being supported by a futuristic society. Like having a rainbow village built across a waterfall. Like designing business cards for your projects. Between your Hermitcraft projects, your videography you put out on your second channel, as well as the insights and commentary you have about being creative and pursuing projects, to me your art is a big inspiration for myself as someone who only does pencil paper drawings or acrylic painting. I would argue that the major difference hasn't necessarily been the expanded block pallet, which there may be certain amount of truth to it as the blocks have given everyone more freedom, but instead the detail and care that you've had the courage to take risks for. You're taking chances with shapes and concepts, you're exploring new colors, playing with perspectives and terraforming, all while acknowledging that what you intend to accomplish is difficult from time to time even without exploring these ideas. All these tiny steps you've taken have all led to you becoming a significant builder. I also just wanted to say that I also appreciate your honesty about procrastination, anxiety about starting tasks, and burnout, and the fact that you take time out of your commitments to replenish yourself so you CAN do the things you're so passionate about. For instance sleeping on an idea you're frustrated with and being able to come back and try again. I'm personally just someone who has a hard time knowing how to start and when to stop. All this to say, your skills don't come from a bunch of pixels in an online game. The online game has just been a good tool for you. You're doing great things. Thank you for sharing your great things online :-D ❤

Think of it this way, the average content creator cannot do at their current level the blending aspect you add into builds. That's an advanced feature, just like making custom trees is a pretty advanced technique. Scar even complimented the area you designed. You are, in my opinion, just as good at building as you are at redstone now. When you described Jill N' Bill's "stuff lift" I totally thought you were going to go into some lore building and explain that it's how Jill and Bill get up and down. First, Bill goes into the shop and operates the lift so Jill can come up, then Jill lowers the lift to bring Bill up. Bill keeps running up and down hidden staircases every day to keep up the ruse hoping Jill never catches on to the problem with their little arrangement, but Jill already knows and just thinks it's a fun ritual every morning but doesn't really know why Bill started it.

Yes!! I LOVE detail oriented building. I haven’t played survival in months because I keep spending entire play sessions in the creative world. Why? Because I built a MASSIVE castle and I’m very very slowly filling it with very detailed things. Do I regret it because it’s VERY far from done? NOPE. It’s very much just me filling a massive shell with little things and it’s really, really fun!

I think a lot of what draws viewers towards mumbo and grian is the way they both constantly improve. Grian is learning redstone, mumbo is learning to build, and both constantly make little adjustments to their actual editing style to make it more pleasant for the viewer to watch the videos. Back in s7, mumbo started putting both music and voiceover during timelapses instead of just one or the other after realising it made the video better, this season he realised that his videos tend to have black screens during transitions, forcing the viewer to see their reflection if watching on the phone and he made title cards to fix it. Grian actively goes to other hermit's builds to figure out how to improve and how to make pallettes work better, also promoting that person's videos at the same time. The willingness to learn makes not just individual videos, but watching them for long periods of time, extremely rewarding to see

Mumbo has been an AMAZING builder since season 6. Season 7 and 8 had INSANELY GOOD BASES I get that Mumbo has learning a different TYPE of building this seasons with detailing and gradients and custom trees and such. I love the care you put into your builds. You say you’re not a builder, still, you’re honestly probably one of my favourite ones on the server. For the farm store, you could have it named Agri-gate. Jimbob used to be a farmer until all his crops kept getting trampled by people going to Jill & Bill's, so he instead started selling sand, gravel and in addition to his dwindling plant stock. Your unwashed food costs extra because Jimmy is charging you for that dirt. Also, the aggregate for sale is just piled in the fields. Except dirt. You want dirt, he just digs it out of the field. Jimmy has begrudgingly accepted he's a dirt farmer now.

Love the list, had to add some of my own: box of pet rocks. They are not enhanced (eg not painted/carved) in any way, and Jill did pay someone for them. A big basket of keys. Occasionally Bob sees his own shop keys sitting around, forgets that he left them there and “puts the stock away where it belongs”, then can’t find his keys for days. Half a dozen taxidermied rabbits in poor condition. The number of limbs in no way adds up to the number of heads or torsos. Also a remarkably well done armadillo, except it’s wearing an apron and holding a mini spatula. Half an aquarium. 5 roller skates. There is one pair amongst them, but they are different colors.

Hey Mumbo, I reckon you could the boulder bros hut have a secret redstone contraption which leads into a secret diamond ore (gambling) lair/club for the snails so you can "convince them" to move from Big Ron's. and then ask Grain and Gem for the names of the two snails so you can make a good name for their lair/club and make a business card and stuff. This is just a cool idea which I think you should try out, and plus it kind of makes sense to do so.

I like the idea that Gill and Bob kind of unintentionally "intrude" on everyone's space. Like, they have boxes spilling onto the farmers fields (which I'm sure he HATES), and generally make the area very inconvenient to traverse. Since they have stuff right next to an electricity transformer thing, that's probably a fire hazard lol I'm absolutely in love with the cozy and close-knit atmosphere that you've been creating! You mentioned that you're jealous of Joel's build, but it's important to remember that everyone expresses themselves in different ways, and we can tell that your builds have just as much meaning and heart behind them. You're one of the most inspiring creators out there, and I love watching you experimenting and growing and having fun! 💛💙

Ok mumbo, I love you, but for the love of god, two things: 1. Shulker boxes are movable, you can transport a few up to where you're building instead of flying back and forth to your field of chests. 2. A cow farm is so easy to make and would set you up for leather for the item frame shop. It would be so much easier to set up than slaying cows in the open world.

The Jill and Bobs shop hits home for me. There’s this lady who runs an antique shop in the mountains and she doesn’t have internet or use any kind of technology that wasn’t in use during the 70s. Really lovely elderly lady and the shop is HUGE with so many cool Knick knacks, our family makes a point to stop there when we go get our Christmas tree for the holidays.

I think your industrial day pass idea from last season was really good, with some minor tweaks to prevent always running out! You could either have say 25% of what the farms make go into a separate chest for you, (it doesn't matter that much to the people using it, it is still great value!), or alternatively have a "reserve" chest at the bottom that fills up first that is your stuff. That way not only do they get to use the farms, but also you don't have to afk at them because the customers do it for you!

Instead of just having boxes everywhere, you should definitely think about including custom heads, as well as items on invisible item frames. It would add so much detail and life to the build, and it would probably make people want to look around to see all the miscellaneous bits and bobs as if it were a real, genuine antique store.

Keep an extra few stacks of whatever you're selling, and when it sells out, you can put in 1 more stack and not get in trouble for not stocking your shop, and you'll have extra time to restock. Oh wait, he's got a better solution.

I wonder if fence gates would look better than fences in the ladder? That way there wouldn't be a third vertical pole in the center. Honestly though everything looks so good, I think the amount of time and intentionality put into these builds makes them really feel alive and well-composed. Your base is an art piece!

For the junk shop, if you are still worried about the bottom bit being too similar to the cliff, you should add a layer of big contrast. Either something colorful to break up the grey, or something significantly darker or lighter. My mind went to basalt for a nice black bottom to help it stand out!

You can use warped hanging signs for the ladder instead of fences to make a kind of sliding-library style ladder with backed steps. I would also remove the top fence so it looks like you can walk straight onto the roof once you reach to top. I love the idea of copper trapdoors for the sides and how you used them at the top, it looks very nice and connected that way :)

I love how you have become a legitimate builder over the course of your Minecraft experience.
