Hermitcraft 9: Episode 6 - GRIAN PROOF VAULT

In this episode of Hermitcraft Season 8, Mumbo gets to work on building a Hermitcraft Grian proof base in Minecraft. This giant Minecraft secure vault is going to keep all of my Minecraft diamonds safe. We also get to work on building some Minecraft traps, and continue planning the Hermitcraft mega base.

I just want to say something thats been on my mind about season 9, it seems you guys are stressing about how to keep making better and better builds each season, but the thing i enjoy most about Hermitcraft is the time spent goofing around with friends. Like a corridor of doors, and one of the rooms has a very tricky thing (maybe a hidden hopper/heavy pressure plate so you have to throw an object in a specific place to progress) and one is just a room of buttons. The button room doesn't do anything but he won't know that! Maybe different things will make different noises, like note blocks, pistons, etc.

This whole vault thing seems like it could be a good minigame/shop for next season. Having all the hermits that want to try and crack the vault and pull a heist pay for a chance to break in and having a cool down period so you can refresh the traps and mechanisms to thwart the prior progress

While Hermitcraft is a build heavy series, you shouldn't underestimate how much your viewers enjoy just watching you interact with the other Hermits. For example, in season 8 when you decide to not "kill" anything, who thinks of that!

Try non oxidized copper on the deepest layer of the big vault (currently black concrete). Also Mumbo don't doubt yourself to much, your buildings are looking gorgeous and the comedy is top notch. I just want to let you know that you've done a (probably unintentionally) great thing with the front of your vault; the dark prismarine in the walls gives a touch of colour while being dark enough to not draw the eye, meanwhile it goes in almost a gradient of dark prismarine -> oxidised copper -> diamond block, from dark to light and draws your eyes directly towards the diamond block in the middle. This is one of the things artists are taught - along with line of action and framing - to draw the viewer towards a focal point.

As a nice tip for anyone, you can place a bed under the end portal to permanently put anybody who sets their spawn in it in the end (if you get it right) (this is reversed by destroying the bed)

I eagerly look forward to seeing this entire hillside transformed into an entire family of Matryoshka vaults. So many vaults that it would take Grian two days to search all of them even if they were all open and easy to access. An idea: Distraction Vault. In the center of a busy area place a storage area surrounded with 5 layers of glass and flowing water pipes for transporting items. Make it semi visible from all the rooms surrounding it and in the center of it place an obsidian floor with a gold altar holding a single chest. In the chest place a note "This is not the real vault". Do not make any way to access the vault once you close it. See how long it takes Grian to get into it anyway. Maybe leave a way he can kill himself if he cant find a way out.

I have a prediction for season end. After everyone's made their final episodes and the season is officially over, but _before_ Xisuma packs up the world download, all the hermits are going to transfer their entire wealth into Mumbo's vault, all to get one over on us by making us second-guess whether or not Mumbo's vault really did have things in it all season...

I find it hilarious that when mumbo picked up Grian’s diamond blocks there was a “New Recipies Unlocked!” Achievement and it was to make diamonds, so either mumbo has only regular diamonds in his vault and no blocks, or mumbo is as rich as a rock who is stuck in a casino with one mill in dept.

I feel like Grian will think of it being a trapped chest since it's just the chest in the room, now if you throw him off with something else that looks like a trap inside the room then he might fall for it, like a button that says "Don't push" with some random sand, then he might avoid that and just open the chest. You'd think that since Grian's episode came out first, that would make watching this episode less satisfying-- but you'd be wrong. Watching this episode is like reading the final chapter of an Agatha Christie where Poirot reveals who did it, how and why. So I don't start fights, I'll elaborate. Grian's episode is great because it has all the action and hilarious epic fails, this episode is great because it has all the psychological warfare leading up to it. Both are incomplete without the other and in fact I think this mini saga would really lose something if these episodes had come out the other way around. A master-class in storytelling brought to us by Mumbo and Grian. PS Mumbo, if you see this, can you mention how much of this release was consciously structured using film making techniques, and how much was just out of necessity of "everyone will give the game away to Grian if i release my episode first"? Feel free to go on about it at length. To everyone else - This is the first season I've really gotten into HC so if he has spoken about it before, feel free to link me.
