Hermitcraft 9: THE EMPIRES CHALLENGE! (Episode 43)

It's here! The Empires Challenge! 13 Stacks of 13 Blocks from 13 empires for 1 build. They said it couldn't be done (okay they didn't say that, but just imagine what it would be like if they did). But today on Hermitcraft Season 9 from the Empires SMP, we visit all 13 empires for a stack of blocks then combine them into one glorious build. Cub's content is subtle genius. It's abundantly clear there is so much thought behind each video; it's about so much more than mega builds, and is choc full of humor without bashing overplayed memes over the viewers' heads. He manages to tell creative stories without awkwardly forcing a narrative or play style and has seemingly found a way to work free of influence from the Minecraft KZbinr meta. I am a huge fan of everyone on both whitelists but I can't think of a single creator's videos I click faster when it pops up in my feed.

This is blessedly true of most of the Hermits IMO. Part of what makes watching vids from that server so nice is that it's relatively free of epic memesters and people with Terminal Influencer Syndrome.

yep cubs videos are pretty chaotically neutral. never know what hes got in mind, but one thing we always know is he is gonna make it interesting. only when he actually is planning something big like total chaos for example, does he really come into a video with exact ideas what he plans to do

I know the Hermits are getting some flack about the crossover and it not being Hermitcraft, but I've been loving it all so far! It's been so much fun seeing interactions between the Hermits I follow and other MC creators I've bever heard of before! Plus, I like seeing how well (or how poorly) the Hermits try to RP along with the Empires folks. I've never had time to watch anything from the Empires SMP, so seeing bits of it is exciting and makes me want to find time and watch it more!

For me is the other way around. I watch Empires since season 1 but only follow a few of the Hermitcraft members like Grian, Gem, Pearl Keralis and Impulse so this gave me the oportunity to see more of the others as well.

I love how Cub has barely been on the server and he is already making Empire challenges! I love the fact that he went to all 13 empires and took blocks from each to make his own base and give a low key tour of each Empire. We love to see the sense of community between the two smps.

You can smelt wood into charcoal to craft a campfire. So technically that doesn't seem to be against the rules.

did anyone else notice that the onscreen label for Katherine's kingdom was GlimmerGRAVE, not Glimmergrove? is that part of the curse? or is that specifically the dead half? ( I know it was probably just a typo, but I love the potential LORE implications)

I really hope that Empire's False returning here isn't just a one shot thing to give Cub some blocks, because last we've seen of her (canon-wise) she went into hiding again because she heard that "someone" was coming. If she is actually back then maybe False meeting False can still happen. But, this may just be a break in canon where Cub asked False to switch outfits so he can get a block from her empire, meanwhile she is canonically hiding away until the Hermits leave.

What I took away from spending 13 minutes compiling a hilarious mess is that honeycomb and amethyst blocks look extremely good next to each other, as do mud and terracotta as a flooring!

You did great! I especially enjoy the little 2nd storey patio walkout. A little unsafe but great for flying/landing when you get Mending for your wings! I’d love to see you rechallenge yourself with these blocks but instead of 13 minutes, 130 minutes. You can plan as well as build during that time duration. I might challenge myself to both because I know my 13 minute build is going to be utter trash already lol

I loved this challenge! And I kind of like the result, but I wish you would grand yourself a mulligan and see what would happen without the time restraint and with planning. I think others would design better than me but I wonder about doing 7x5 two storey (plus basement and floating platform to side above representing all) with basalt and mud ground floor (vertical striped?), terracotta and spruce first floor(boxed), roof as Gem's Dawn roofs with mangrove and honeycomb, plus a bit of crimson? Use more crimson slabs/trap doors on interior floor, stairs (as Scott so good at). Basement cave drip stone and any mud and basalt left over and an amethyst mock geode. Floating platform as stratos but circular (create sphere) with quartz base, light blue and honey comb floor white and honeycomb build mock contained sphere and a prismarine roof. One side of build do a blue and white lean to as in Joeys and mock pond with leftover prismarine and blue wool...

I know the challenege house is finished and you probably won't change it, but you could replace fences in the windows for bottom and top dripstone. PS: pointed dripstone on basalt pillars looks surprisingly good. I might be stealing that idea. :)
