Yes, but beyond that this is something that other hermits have talked about before Mumbo mentioning how he feels like he's still a "new" hermit even when he's one of the longest running hermits at this point Cleo telling people to 'shush it' when folks were talking about mega bases and what she was gonna do for hers Xisuma talking about how they try different things and its good, but that they still want it to be 'Hermitcraft' as they want it These are just some of the folks I follow but ... safe to say, being a Hermit is because *they* are hermits - not because we call 'em that, Gem is a hermit because she is a hermit Much the same way anyone else whom is a hermit is also a hermit

As a viewer, I prefer seeing smaller buildings that form into something bigger. I love being able to ( or seeing other people) walk around all these buildings forming a town or community is so immersive for me and I really like it. I have similar feelings as a Minecraft builder and player. Large builds can be really overwhelming and challenging, especially if you add in all the material gathering, and it doesn't feel as dense and welcoming if it's just one large structure. I prefer the many smaller structures because it feels they give a sense of completion for an episode. Because you have so many people you can interact with in these SMPs, it can appear to a viewer that not much got done. Finishing a smaller build shows progress and, in my opinion, also allows for more creativity, flexibility, and changing your mind. When I build things, I always go smaller so I don't lose motivation or interest in what i'm building.

As both a viewer and a minecraft player, I love doing small to medium builds that surround a larger focal point. Megabuilds tend to get draining after a while, even in creative where you can have worldedit to help you through it. Having one big structure to return to every now and then coupled with smaller ones to take "breaks" from the big one with really help keep my creativity and motivation up!
@charlestonianbuilder3442 жыл бұрын
This is exactly what i do, start a big giant building project which i know can take weeks or even months of work, then burn out would start to increase and i would take a break, and do a mini project, this way i never get burned out all the time and can sometimes even have the energy to finish gigantic build in even less time!

I like your smaller to medium buildings in Empires. The reason is because it are "short-term" projects and you have a lot more interactions on Empires and I like that. The mega base in Hermitcraft is cool, but too big and "long-term" for what I like to see. I like to see how you build your beehouse in Empires and then I like to try it on my own in Minecraft. However, if more flexibility is allowed I love the idea of a lot of small/medium connecting builds with a larger centerpiece. 10:10 When I found the Hermitcraft server, I loved how different everyone was. Sometimes I wanted to rewatch impulse's s8, sometimes I really need some Grian s6. If everyone was a carbon copy of each other, I don't think I'd be able to watch as much as I do. When I decided to show my sister Hermitcraft, I knew watching a Mumbo or Tango video wouldn't work with her like it works with my brother. So I showed her your first two episodes from this season and she loved it! Thank you for being yourself 😊 As for your final question, I'm incredibly excited to see your hermit castle grow through the season but I also see the value in the smaller builds on empires. I don't think I can pick a favourite simply because both have great value to me as a player and a viewer. Smaller lets me see detail and styles that I may not have thought of, like using honeycomb and pumpkin for roofs, while bigger shows a longer process and concepts that I can also implement, like segmented building
@xxbeinaxx2 жыл бұрын
yeah i never understand why some people want everyone on the server (especially directed towards newer hermits) to be the same! Like, the fun of it is that everyone is very different and there's a wide variety of play styles. it's worth it to watch a bunch of different hermit's videos, even of the same event, because they're all going to be unique experiences and reactions. i think the reason hermitcraft has been able to continue on for SO LONG is that it never gets boring; if ur just not super interested in what one person is working on, you can watch someone else's projects in the same season and still keep up with whats going on!

@scamp50002 жыл бұрын
Personally I like the smaller builds. You can fit so much more different kinds of structures in smaller village like builds with many uses, whereas a big structure may take up a large area for only a few things. I do like castles, however villages are more inviting and livable. Also seeing someone else's smaller builds, especially interiors give me ideas for my own builds. As for being a Hermit, I'm glad to see you here, Empires and your Skyblock series. But please don't let people dictate to you how and when you should build and for how long. Do not worry about that. Everyone is unique. Do Gem style, that's why we subscribed to you, not just to see Hermitcraft but you. This is the Gem channel. We could get Hermitcraft from any of the other content creators on that server. You just add your uniqueness to it, no matter how long it takes. Keep true to your creative style, in whatever type of build you explore. I would love to see steampunk if you get into it, I'm sure it would be amazing. Love from your neighbour in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. P.S. - I think people calling you Tay may just be a cultural difference, where some call people by their family name, or as in some countries their family name is spelled first then their first name so they may be confused by our names. Not sure in all cases though, please don't take too much offense, as you said, better to ask.

On the name thing, I personally just take the part of the username that feels most like a name and use that for short. For example, one of my friends' username is AppleOfEris and I called them Eris as that seemed the most name-like part to me, though it turned out they preferred to be called Apple.

Stylewise, I think I prefer the Empires structure of many smaller buildings with different purposes and backstories. However, I absolutely love to see the megabase growing and just hearing your thoughts on the process, the ugly phase and tackling all the stuff around that. Bonus: Something that I really enjoy with your videos is how you acknowledge that certain things are hard or take time. Yes, sometimes custom trees grow from a sapling by magic, but if I just want a pretty build, I cam find those on Pinterest. But the videos actually give ot story and depth and teach us about the things that go in to it, even if some are grindy

I don't care if you feel that you are slower than some others at putting out videos because I always feel they were worth the wait whether HC or Empires. I felt I needed to say this because I have not complemented you before. There will always be a part of the audience that will find something to complain about, but they are not nearly as big a part as you might think. The best part about starting a Minecraft series, is that it doesn't always have to be a new world. You can just have an existing world, go far away and start over. Furthermore, when you start making videos, you got nothing to lose, people will give your videos a chance. When I started my content creation journey in the summer, I told myself "If I can make even one person's life better after watching my video, the effort is worth it." Go into making Minecraft videos as a learning new skills rather than chasing success, the more you do it, the more you'll learn, and the chanel will grow alongside the journey. I've been doing it for 6 months now and been loving it and can't wait to do more in 2023. Just start! You got this!

Both build styles have their charm. Large builds can be more accurate to the form of what you're building (which I love) but small buildings placed carefully together can create atmosphere. Honestly gem, I love both. As someone who’s learning how to build, I love the smaller builds as for me they’re much easier to create, but I also have a huge appreciation for the large mega builds. It’s a hard choice, but I’d say a balance, so I love empires, as it’s much more relatable to my own builds, with the builds being smaller and all. But I can’t help but love your mega builds and the detail and time and effort you can see in them. I’m not really the right one to answer this question, but I’d say the balance you have now is incredible, and if you want smaller builds, I’ll happily watch just the same as big builds. You’re an incredible builder gem, and I’m so lucky I found your channel :)

I think I like the smaller structures combining into one bigger "build" better. It feels different than a lot of the mega single-build bases that happen, which is cool to see new types of stuff and follow the build journey as a viewer (and not feel like i've missed an entire huge amount of changes on one giant build if i miss one video), but also as a minecraft player it's neat for inspiration that..doesn't feel out of reach with the amount of time I usually have to play.

As a viewer, I cannot pick one or the other because I look at different series for different things. I look to Hermitcraft for inspiration, chasing that feeling of marvel I get from looking at what happens when a server gets together with the goal of pushing themselves out of their comfort zones and reaching Minecraft to its limits. From that server, new techniques and building trends emerge. I look to Empires for more relatable building time frames and scales. The quality is the same, but the early game scale for Empires reminds me more of a server of friends. Hermitcraft feels like a group of friends, but its priority feels like it is meant to be a server for projects first, and then hanging out with friends is worked in later. Hermitcraft gets ideas going in my head, and Empires reminds me that those goals are achievable at anyone's pace!

I like building lots of small structures because it’s easier to see the progress as you build rather than an outline you have to wait for ages to see the result of. I like big structures as a part of a village like a church or town hall or something but I feel like building lots of small things adds to the theme of the area.

For your question: I prefer your empire builds. Smaller but together make a large. Mostly because when you build like that, you get each build finished before making the next. That makes the whole build always looking good, instead of leaving large empty unfinished portions that the Hermit style tend to do.

Doing my due diligence as a follower who watched the whole video (albeit a bit late): I like a mix of the two, but lean towards your empires style (in reference to size). Your Hermitcraft build has gotten some of that with the village makeover, so it's been a good blend, but having a large, central structure with a lot of supporting builds is really my favorite. That said, it's not a big enough preference to change my viewing habits. The reason I follow you is your design style, personality, relationships (collaborations?), and shenanigans (in that order). Keep doing what you love, the way you love, and I at least will still be here to watch you grow and to learn from and be inspired by you! Thank you for all you do!!

I prefer your Empires build. I like seeing your smaller builds and how they wind up making up a larger base. It’s fun to see how the base progresses and it feels like we get to see more complete projects. In contrast to a mega base that is always a work in progress.

Gday. I totally agree. Small/med stuff can be completed easier each episode (for viewers) and as a minecrafter, smaller builds are more inspiring/doable :)

As a Minecraft player and a KZbin viewer, I prefer the smaller builds turning into a cohesive area. It gives the opportunity to have unique buildings yet still aiming for the same goal.

Out of all your build styles, I have really been enjoying your smaller building cities and funny little interactions with your villagers. It feels more like something gets accomplished in every episode rather than just having a never-ending monster of a build. That is just the build style, though. What I really enjoy about watching your videos is how you interact with everyone (even if it is just some npc on a hard-core or skyblock world). Your energy is contagious!

I'll be honest watching you build in empires has improved my building soooooooo much. If your wanting to get more comfortable with vloging, maybe try doing one second a day to turn into a month long vlog. That way it's a bit more manageable and less planning stress. Thank you so much Gem, you got my back into minecraft and I love being able to see canadian youtubers succeed. 💜💜💜

I like the megastructures, particularly the challenge of figuring out how rooms are laid out inside. It seems like a puzzle to me. Bdubs always boggles my mind with room layouts and what he can fit into small spaces or oddly mismatched floors.

I honestly prefer the smaller builds coming together into something bigger. I think that's mostly because that's how i prefer to build myself and i often look to hermitcraft and empires for inspiration. Your empires series has been a big source of inspiration for me, and watching you work on your empire makes me want to go work on my own town project.

Concerning your question : I like both styles. they both have purpose and both are amazing to watch. I recognize myself more in the Empires way of doing builds : smaller structures in a cohesive style and merging together in a bigger overall build in the end : it allows you versatility in gradients and building techniques, makes you concentrate on detailing a lot more. But, I feel like your building here, on hermitcraft, is also reminiscent of that way of building : yes the structure is massive in comparison, but it's made of smaller parts : towers, bridges, side builds, that are assembling around that main part, sort of? And it creates a feel of history : that building hasn't been built by the elves in one go, it might have been built over several centuries by different kings or queens, and has evolved with the Elven people. If feels like a real castle, in real life. But still it has a purely hermitcrafty purpose : a mob farm! Caus let's be honest, those farms are one of the reasons hermits build so big! Only way to hide those monstrosities sometimes... So yeah, both are nice, both are awesome to look at, and seeing you build both, is also coherent with what you did before hermitcraft or empires : those amazing big sculptures and magic organics. You have it in you to build big, do not feel like you're not a hermit. My thanks to you, caus' your first season of hermitcraft was actually the first time ever I watched the smp. (and i binge watched it since, let's be honest.) And I'm wishing you a really happy start for the new year to come. Like they say here : Guten Rutsch!

I prefer separated small structures. There's more reward in getting to see vids of things being completed and them all coming together as the series progresses than a mega structure where it feels like it's progress on the same thing forever.

I really like both of your builds on Empires and Hermitcraft, but for this season I think I preferred Empires, just because the kingdom aesthetic was so cool, like the big gate, the small farms all around and such.. Good job for this amazing year, Gem, you're doing great !

I enjoy building the small to medium things in my worlds, so seeing videos like that helps to inspire new things. I also think its nice to have some big builds that are worked on over time rather than just in one sitting.

I loved how you did this episode. Very chill, very personal and still very fun. On the builds question: I prefer to build and watch smaller to medium builds that form a whole town or something like that in the end. That is because I love details in builds and you can put so many on those walk through villages. I'm sure there will be a lot in this base, which looks amazing btw! But in bigger bases those details get lots easily. Still, I can't want for this build to be finished and for us to walk through it in the eventual world download. All the best wishes for 2023! Can't wait to see what you do next!

From a player, I find that building a large empire with smaller builds inside helps with my ADHD way easier and so I don't get overwhelmed and I really did love your empire's style for that. However, I think the look of one large building that is surrounded by smaller buildings is my favourite. Especially in a fantasy theme like further out of town, they are smaller but closer to the centre of the city the buildings are bigger and cramped. I also wanted to say thank you Gem if you ever see this for helping me grow in confidence with my building skills, you have in the last two years become one of the biggest comfort creators for me in my busy life doing uni, internship and full-time work, your hard doesn't go unnoticed.

I personally prefer the latter, lots of little structures that come together to form a larger whole. It’s what got me into MCYT with Bdubs and Welsknight’s old single player series especially where they’d have kingdoms rather than structures. *Especially* medieval stuff because it lends itself so well to kingdoms and cities etc. I do love me a good megastructure too though. Happy New Year to anyone reading x

Love the question at the end it's such a great question! I got really busy so sadly I didn't have much time to watch the empires/hermitcraft episodes. I would say I like building smaller houses in my own Minecraft world, and it's really hard to decide on what I like to watch but I think smaller builds as well. But it's so cool to see all the mega builds on hermitcraft!
@natashalaura18522 жыл бұрын
When it comes to your last question.. I would say I like a mix of both. Like in the last season for example. You had one large structure, the castle, with smaller structures that still told a story. I think Bdubs has a similar build style to this as well.. but I like the concept of having a longer-term project to work on to make something really spectacular looking, but also having opportunities to step away and work on something else that could maybe be finished in an episode. Honestly that sort of balance is what really got me into your content

Honestly Gem, The best experiences I have had in viewing your content is when you are being your genuine self. There is an enthusiasm that you can mostly put on for the content you think the viewers want that is good. But when you are building something you really enjoy, or are goofing off with your friends, or tormenting Etho... it's just pure fun for me. I like your plan of working on not letting others control what you build. I actually don't have a building style preference, except for whatever makes your heart sing. That is the best content for me at the very least. Thank you for being YOU.

While I really love everything you do, I must say I prefer the huge structures that you make. In a way, I think in Hermitcraft you do sort of split your megabuilds into smaller, more "bite-sized" structures, and it's really fun to see those come together as well!

I like both styles, but the small and scattered style is definitely more interesting to me. I am currently working on a relatively huge base on a server myself and tried to find something inbetween (I have a village on the surface and a large throne room underground) and the combined type is definitely my favorite!

To answer your question, I think that for me, I prefer to build and watch people build many smaller to mid-sized buildings rather one or even two or three much larger buildings. Although there are so many more options for interiors in larger castle-like builds, I prefer the many smaller ones. That way, instead of just making a room for something, you can make a whole build. I also feel like if you build a larger build, you don’t get the satisfaction of completion until the end, whereas with a village or town type thing, it may look complete but you can still add to it. Btw absolutely love your content and I really liked the q&a type episode. Lots of love!!💕
@loravura47822 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I think I enjoyed both styles about equally with a very slight preference to hermitcraft? There's something satisfying about watching such a large structure come together over months, but I think that can come from a more sprawling interconnected village as well. As a viewer, a lot of what I'm getting out of videos is entertainment from people with personalities I really enjoy interacting and goofing off and doing impressive things in a game I really love. Really interesting and insightful Q&A! Happy new year Gem 😁

I honestly like that you (and everyone on this server) Have different styles, focuses and pesonalities. If I want more of a particular hermit, i can just watch older seasons. There is plenty of stuff out there for most hermits. So I agree that this criticism of you not fitting in doesn't make much sense. For hermitcraft, but also life in general, people are much better of if you let them be who they want to be.

I've watched both the Empires and the current Hermitcraft season and although I absolutely love the style of Empires as it gives me lots of inspiration for my own building and such, I think I like the style you did with Hermitcraft better, you do a really god job of choosing block pallets (something I sometimes i have a hard time with, as well as trying to balance it well) and I love the block pallet you chose for this series, as well as the elaborate elven build style and I just love seeing you slowly create these beautiful huge structures out of seemingly nothing
