That's one of the things I love about her approach to things. She's very humble about knowing what she's good at and what she doesn't know how to do exactly and has the confidence to go for it and try things. I value these character traits and I try to teach my kids to always try hard things so I love to see a content creator who can so naturally display these traits. Same with Skizz, he's like this too.

Also the ability to not stress about stuff that is out of your personal control. In that regard i am the same way. If there is some deadlinie i have to keep for example i will stress about it very much until it reaches a point i know, that its impossible to reach. Maybe because i have to wait for someone to deliver his part of a project, for example. Then i dont lose any sleep over it anymore. I think that skill is very important to stop yourself from burning out in a generally stressfull enviourment. And people working in the creative industry like Gem, Impulse or Grian for example, they need to keep the stresslevel under control because creativity and stress dont mix well.

Wow, 15 years ago I was 20 years old homeless and couch surfing in Toronto. I could never see myself where I am today, living in a nice cozy place with twin boys (that I swear I manifested into existence by accident lol) and just so happy and content. I have so much freedom with my time right now because I am focussed on my kids growth and my own growth, mentally/physically/emotionally/spiritually and even creatively. I have been putting so much time and effort into finding what inspires me and I finally feel like I have directions I can see for myself, for the first time in my life. I may be a super late bloomer, but that's the thing about 15 years out - you never know where you will be. I definitely didn't see myself as a single mom holding it down for her kids, that's for sure lol, or as someone who feels secure in themselves and is genuinely happy. So much can happen in 15 years, you can make many changes in that amount of time. Gem is great for sure, and she will do great things in that amount of time!

Skizz describing his compersion for Impulse's successes is so heartwarming. It restores my faith in masc/masc friendships; so often men are taught not to be vulnerable and caring with/for their friends, and it leads to the shallow and lonely friendships that so many men can't seem to break out of. So seeing men speak of each other with pride and love is one of my favourite things. Men, show your friends you love them, it's radical and healing and strengthening of all parts of you and your community. Be more Skizz 🥰 note how he shows care: he took videos to share with Impulse's mom because he knew she would value that, he showed up to watch his friend in things he wasnt involved in, he expresses excitement and pride in impulses achievements, and he mentions he might otherwise be jealous but his love for his friend only makes him happy to watch him up there, he doesn't interrupt Impulse's accounts of his experience, and he asks relevant follow up questions to show he's engaged. They both interact with such high respect for one another, no wonder they've been friends for so long ❤ I also love how honest Gem was about being a woman in this industry, how isolating it can be and where she struggles as well as the areas where she's so assured of herself. It speaks to so many women's experiences, and I love that she subtly maybe even unintentionally changed the question of "what advice would you give (to another woman looking to do what you do)" to "here's some advice (to the people around minorities to advocate for them)", it really hammered home to me that the truth is being a successful minority in any field does not guarantee success to any other minority if they "just did it right", or if they "just believed in themselves", the only way minorities become safer is by continuing to advocate for change among those who make it difficult to succeed. White people, cishet people, able bodied people, men, demand better of your content, expect them to show you diversity, expect them to treat their minority colleagues and friends with equity and respect. So... Imp and Skizz... when we seeing Pearl here? Gotta get the whole soup group on 🥰😘

1:03:35 (podcast spoiler) The comparison to mumbo is spot on. They’re both very similar in the way of being artistic and naturally drawn towards art, video, and making people smile. I think a lot of people in hermitcraft and empires are like that because that’s the reason you all came together. All of you are constantly inspiring so many people (me included). The second I get an opportunity to meet any of you in person I will and honestly I’ll just say “thank you”. Seriously thank you for doing this despite many people doubting that you can make a living off of it. 54:10 Something I don't think many people outside of KZbinrs, and even a bit within KZbin, realize is that, unless you're a one-hit-wonder, you have developed many marketable skills that are very useful within "normal jobs" that can fill out a resume, you haven't just been "throwing your life away."

this is true and also it takes a LOT for someone to be forced off of youtube. even if the entire platform was gone in a day and never came back we have twitch, tik tok, a lot of social media and I'm sure a replacement for youtube would come up pretty quick. youtube is such an integral part of internet culture that even if you might get less views on other platforms and smaller channels would be lost forever to the void, a lot of content creators would easily make a quick comeback and be able to stay relevant on the internet. also even if someone is "cancelled" it takes a lot to make their views really dip or make them leave the internet. like there's so many youtubers who are genuinely horrible people and still make content and make money off of it. onision definitely fell way off but he STILL gets views and has fans and people still donate to him. once you've established an audience it's very hard to make them all leave. I think the fear that someone's youtube career could be gone in a day is kind of silly because that is so unlikely to happen and we only see the stuff that gets a lot of attention online like jenna marbles leaving but realistically that does not happen often enough to be a genuine fear for most people.

The bit around the 50 and 57 minute mark relates to me a lot. I did an environmental degree because I had no idea what I wanted to do and was just interested in it, but it ended up being a total career failure and I've struggled to work out what to do instead. Everyone around me just went along with me when I was deciding to go down that route and no one really pressured or questioned it. So I can agree with a lot of what Skizz says here, about the uncertainty of whether something will work out and having something prepared for if it doesn't. Brilliant that the YT thing worked out for Gem and she hasn't needed that backup plan, but I think it's better to have that and not need it than the other way round. Just my perspective based on my own life experience and ending up on the other side of the whole dream job vs more "sensible" normal job thing.

To Gem's point about grandparents being more trusting, I think it's more that they have less stake in it and their responsibility is in how well your parents handle it. It's the same reason grandparents spoil grand kids while the parents are trying to moderate. But it definitely lands different. I'm sure that the point of experience and trust is also there, but I think that's built on trusting their children and knowing that they did all right, so the grandchildren will do good too.

It brings so much new and enlightening information to different people and OF different people... but I sometimes listen to these and have to break, because I get mad at myself for KNOWING this is good advice, and NOT TAKING it for myself despite an impassioned drive to want to make a similar kind of shift they all have done in their lives. I am too comfortable in my current situation.

Wow, Gem's first comments on Vegas is my favorite. I take all the dust and dirt for granted. I've never seen it as significant but yeah, cars left outside always accumulate dust. And the worst is that when it rains here, cars don't get clean: they get dirtier! All the humidity just helps dirt stick lol

A few guest suggestions! I'd love to see Pearl, cub, and Grian on the podcast. Also he's not really an mcyt anymore but I'd love to see Ranboo on the podcast. They used to participate in mcc, but the one in november was their last. Ran rose to popularity very quickly back in 2020 (they had just turned 17) and I think it would be very cool to talk to him about his experience as a young content creator, growing up watching mcyt content and then quickly becoming one himself. Ranboo is also working on a lot of projects right now, one of them being a horror project called generation loss, the first installment happened back in may of this year. Ranboo is very passionate, and having just turned 20, its wonderful to see them so driven to create.

Such an amazing and fun guest to have on. And like skizz said, so wise and mature and confident -- much more so than I at her age.

As someone who is "smart" and also like science and biology. I enjoy seeing Gem's POV on this because i feel like she has a very similar personality to me. I do think that being in some sort of sciences is the "easy way" but my real passion in art, specifically photography.

Being closer to the age and characteristics of the 3 dads. I actually really enjoyed this podcast. I’ve since gone back and watched a few Gem KZbin videos. She’s a joy to watch.

It's a simply and popular saying, but to the point and these podcasts have proved it....Gem is great! ❤

Wow! I had no idea that Gem went to school for Med Lab Science! That’s awesome! I am currently also studying that and I want to become a KZbinr as well! Gem really encouraged me in this episode! Not to mention that we are both from Canada. I never realized how similar we are. That is so interesting!

I moved to vegas a few years ago, was previously in oklahoma and even tho oklahoma is sorta dryish it's crazy different for sure. you have to be so careful with drinking enough water bc you literally don't notice yourself sweating bc it evaporates so fast and you can get dehydrated so quick. I went hiking last year when it was like high 80s out and I felt like I drank soo much water I was scared I'd have to pee while on the mountain but I went the whole time without needing to pee LOL it's wild. also cars don't really get rusty here!! you don't really get water damage or anything it's just dirt/dust that you have to deal with so a lot of things stay pretty pristine. if you see a car that looks rusty or worn down it's probably not from nevada. I really love that there's basically no mosquitoes here but god I miss rain. rainy season in nevada is winter and summer but it's usually just short bursts of rain and rarely thunderstorms for some reason?? so we go a long time without getting any rain or maybe a bit of random drizzle which makes me a lil sad bc I love the coziness of storms. but I guess it's good because older parts of the city are NOT built for rain. we live in a nicer, kinda newer part of vegas that is very suburban but as you get towards the strip the roads are really not built for rain and you get insane flooding even after just 10 minutes of rain. we once drove a friend to the airport in the rain and it was actually scary how deep the water was in a lot of places and it was really difficult to drive through. thankfully the strip itself is kept up pretty well so most tourists don't really have to deal with that. but once it stops raining that shit is GONE. it evaporates so fast lol. the thing that surprised me the most when I first came to vegas was that it's literally SURROUNDED in mountains. all the stuff I'd seen about vegas in movies and stuff never really talked about the mountains but like. they're there lmao. there's so many mountains. there's so much cool naturey stuff around here, like even if you're not a sand enjoyer there's lake mead and the hoover dam which is all like in super rocky steep mountains and is scary but SO COOL to drive through, and some closeish mountains have some greenery, and there's still cool parks and gardens within vegas like I know there's a rose garden and the springs preserve I really wanna go to. my bf took me to a super green big park with lots of trees and ponds for my bday and it was sooo cozy and didn't feel like the desert at all. we went kayaking this month on a small portion of the colorado river (where it's very calm waters and easy to get around, we're beginners lol) and the water there is super green in the sunlight it's so neat. like I miss having grass (you literally can't have grass lawns here anymore unless you had grass already but they will PAY you to remove it atp) and trees and rain but vegas is so cool I love it here. also if you guys get to walk the strip in the future I'd love to hear which casino is your favorite! (if you happen to see comments on 6 month old vids lol.) gambling is awful but god those evil billionaires can make some beautiful buildings. my fav is the venetian, the one with the canal running through and all the intricate gold details and the fake sky ceiling loool. I'm actually taking inspiration from it for one of my minecraft builds and doing a fake sky ceiling because I'm in a snowy biome and can't have it all open. whenever friends are in town we go to the strip and spend a day walking around drinking and watching out friends gamble a bit but ngl I never get sick of it, everything on the strip is so fun and pretty :) ps skizz treating the age 27 like most 27 year olds are absolute morons is so funny but kind of comforting to me bc I'm 27 and feel like I have no idea what I'm doing most of the time, like I'm so bad at being an adult and being responsible for myself but I'm trying my best. I have a lot of friends around my age and I feel like they're very ahead of me in life or have more confidence but maybe I've just curated a really good friend group haha. I've definitely met some people who I feel like I'm shocked to learn they're the same age as me because they're just so emotionally immature and self centered. like damn ik I'm not good at being an adult human being but at least I'm not THAT bad. at least my issues are things like cleaning the house often enough or asking the walmart employee where I can find something and not like bullying people online and assuming everyone who doesn't particularly like me is a horrible terrible evil person who no one should ever be friends with. guess it could always be worse.

I really love all of these guests on the podcast. Have you guys thought about maybe taking the podcast "on the road"? A nice start might be a trip to the UK. You could plan ahead and book in podcast recordings with people like Grian, False, Joel & Lizzie, Jimmy, Scott, Pixlriffs and so on. You have so many creator friends over there that I'm sure you would only need to bring the most essential equipment. I bet they could hook you up with a set and lights and things like that. I bet more in person guests could bring the podcast to the next level. In January content creation usually slows down, right? Just saying... might not be a bad time for something like this. 😉 If there is time over maybe Grian is willing to take you to one of the haunted houses he's been talking about.

it feels so strange to hear people talking about the craziness and surreal feeling of being introduced to a crowd of people on a stage but it's a relatively normal experience for me as a performer. It's interesting to hear the experience because it reminds me of when I first started participating in festivals and showcases.

Gems take it's just like my uncle's advice I've always tried to live by. "If there's something you can do about it, just do it and don't worry. If there's nothing you can do about it, then there's nothing you can do and don't worry about. Overall, Don't worry be happy."

The worst thing is that something in KZbin system go wrong and your channel can just vanish. I've heard of and seen channels that never came back. Because YT doesn't care that much about some random channel owner or it is sometimes impossible.
