Let's be honest, the whole "I know exactly how this monster is going to move if I stand right here as they turn/stand up/finish their animation" thing from the old games, while definitely something that required tons of practice and skill in terms of positioning was basically cheese. When I watch Canta, Team Darkside, or Herny videos from the old games where they just sit and wait while charging a GS because they (reasonably) know EXACTLY what the monster will do next what has really happened was they memorized the limited animation sets and responses the monsters were programmed with. They/we were exploiting the limitations of the engine(s) to more realistically model the way something might reposition to face you or stand up in more than one, pre-scripted way. To me, it's more fun to respond to the monster when I don't know what's going to come next and still come out on top so I really like the idea of the devs being able to program in more nuanced and proportional responses for the monsters instead of them having incredibly predictable movement (like you showed at 5:28).
@TheBrownestFalcon5 жыл бұрын
yea it's definitely more realistic/feels more like the monsters are actually living creatures of course there's the tradeoff as mentioned by Herny but IMO if done well it's nearly always superior (especially because high enough DPS/certain mechanics can still trigger certain gameplay loops like trip locking, etc.)
@Mr.House385 жыл бұрын
That's exactly how I feel, head sniping can't be a thing forever. Old gen games were overall a lot of monster knowledge and some reaction, in World you get equally rewarded for both knowledge and your reflexes. That's the same reason why my main in GU is Valor LS. Depending on the matchup you still need a lot of monster knowledge but at least you must actually react to what is thrown at you. I could hunt Boltreaver all day with Valor LS, it's so much fun.
@martinerhard84475 жыл бұрын
And I really enjoy the opposite. In the old games if you were a good player and memorized all the patterns you could do stuff that looked unbelievable for new players. Almost like a perfect sync dance with the monster. Now the fights are more "messy" but also more realistic.
@ovi59865 жыл бұрын
TURBODERP personally, i think i really like the messy and realistic feel that World gives a lot of the fights. I personally think it’s because I do martial arts. I find that sparring and playing against some of the monsters in this game feels similar, which is REALLY COOL! Getting into that rhythm both in the game as well as sparring irl has the same feel, of that almost zoned out and zen headspace i get into where i don’t think, just react. I couldn’t really do that in the older games and I REALLY like it now.

Might sound strange but I prefer something unpredictable and annoying at times, I think the predictability of the Old Tigrex was a really good thing for speedrun but really bad for regular gameplay. @@vraolet I wont lie, I have all the respect for players who play for speed runs and are all about creating the perfect gearset and knowing the exact moves to br a hunting machine but personally, the moment I even dip my toes into that way to play the game then I have COMPLETELY ripped the personal joy of the game out of the experience. Trust me, im all for learning a monster's moveset and learning their rhythm so take them down in a satisfying way, but it's always fun when the monster has a card or 2 up it's sleeve to take advantage of when I get overly comfortable

It's really refreshing to hear someone analyze something in such detail then summarize it by simply reminding the viewer that THEY should decide which version they like more. It takes real maturity/humility to make a 10+ minute detailed analysis that ends with a quality PSA about how viewers shouldn't allow Herny or anyone else to "decide for them". No matter what topic, whether it's about which Tigrex is "better" or anything else. Decide for yourself and don't let others decide for you.

I think it comes down to how much you enjoyed meaningful headsniping in "classic" mh. Not unique to the tigrex changes but headsniping is just all around a lot less impactful now. I don't think new tigrex is that bad though, he is still fairly satisfying to do with just picking a wing and beating it down all hunt. His charge is significantly worse and more annoying in this game though. The hit box is truly terrible and in the old game it least it gave a good punish opportunity. Now if he decides to charge it's just strictly a negative which kinda sucks.

I don't know if I'm the only one, but this was my very first MH game and thus my first Tigrex and I found him really, really easy.

8:35 "I think it's the best version of Tigrex we were gonna get[...] unless of course we're gonna get a new switch title." Well, here we are. There's a new switch title, Tigrex is in it and honestly he's pretty good. His spin doesn't come out instantly and has the telegraph again, and if he spins out of charge he does a little taunt that you can punish that I don't remember being in World. His hitboxes are also better (in my experience anyway)

The thing that bothered about Iceborne Tigrex was the fact I’m so used to how this fight works in my head I would get caught off guard with the 4th charge, the extra spins and a lot of random stuff. I didn’t like Tigrex because it was too predictable before but now it’s like Tigrex with ADHD.... you never know what’s gonna happen

Honestly, I think the MHW Iceborne version of Tigrex live up to its image and lore that I imagine the first time it was introduced back in MHF2, the feral apex predator.
