Sorry for the delay but hope you guys enjoyed! Been talking to some peeps in the discord and someone mentioned that you should have been able to smack Rajang out of his counter with a well timed hit like with Jho. Watching this video after fighting Rajang in Rise proves your point that he can't survive with the sheer strength of hunters in the fifth gen, Rajang in Rise is more comparable to his versions in the older games compared to Iceborne, his moves do a lot of damage but are very slow, he does a lot of combos but he has so much end lag, and overall he's a lot more predictable in Rise... and between the wire bug's mobility and silkbind attacks and counters the fight in Rise is trivial, compared to Iceborne and even compared to the old games. As someone who's only just fought Rajang on PC, and started out with World, I think it's interesting that this video reflected so many of my thoughts on Rajang's New World incarnation. It's not that the fight is difficult, but that it's *unfair.* The player isn't rewarded for knowing what few openings this new Rajang has, and vital mechanics of the fight are either made more challenging than necessary (flinches being denied at random), or outright denied (clutch claw aim is spotty at best, so you'll sometimes be punished for trying to tenderize when you were aiming at its back legs). Overall, the Rajang experience now feels more *frustrating* than challenging, because it almost completely takes the flow of the battle out of the player's hands. In a game that focuses so heavily on the player learning and exploiting monster behavior, I feel like this was a grave error on Capcom's part when designing the new fight. And unfortunately, given their reluctance to change monster behaviors at all, it's unlikely we'll ever see its fight improve. Rather unfortunate, given it's otherwise an interesting concept, and an entertaining fight when things are going well.
@wolvezbane2614 жыл бұрын
I feel the exact opposite. I'm currently trying to beat rajang solo and the fight while frustrating sometimes is super fun. It's two opponents looking for openings while also denying them. In a weird way it makes me realize all the advantages of being a primate. They're smarter than most animals and have hands with thumbs meaning they're dexterous. So when rajang lands on a wall or rips me off to me it makes total sense because that's an evolutionary advantage over pretty much every other monster.

Maybe it's the Bloodborne player in me speaking, but World is my first MH game and I loved my first encounter with Rajang. He is a fast, hard-hitting "boss" with few openings, so you need to make them count; a classic example of a difficult hit-and-run fight. He wrecked my shit on the first hunt, but when I understood how he fights, I don't think I carted once in the rematch with a build I made for his fight. It's "git gud" in a nutshell... And I actually really like that Rajang can counter clutch claws (only on his arms, I think, never the back legs). It's like the devs said "Here's a cool new mechanic that gives you more ways to fight all the monsters in Iceborne AND base World, but it won't work on this ONE monster." I think it's cool game design.

@Nafysatnaf4 жыл бұрын
@@ChosenofDarkness8 While I always really enjoyed the MH games being hard and don't feel at home in them unless it's G-Rank, I think "git gud" should never set the bar for game design. It's trivial to design a challenge that is extremely difficult and thus by default rewarding when it is bested, but it is a different thing to make even the meat of the challenge itself fun. I guess it's a long winded way of saying the journey is the goal, and if the challenge forces you to switch away from the weapons (playstyle) you enjoy, it's not very good design for a franchise that appears to take pride in offering diversity. Ideally Rajang would be surmountable without hit and run so that people can use their favourite weapons consistently. And while he is probably beatable with something like the Lance, I rather felt like there was a little bit too much BS going on, like blocking not being dependable because pins ignore even Guard UP now, which he uses quite liberally with little time to read his tells. I wouldn't call it outright horrible all in all, but I don't think it's particularly cool game design either.

@desmondbrown55085 жыл бұрын
"The core aspects of Monster Hunter: Reward/Payoff for learning and studying the fight". You just described my problem with several fights in Iceborne with this one statement. It doesn't feel this way anymore for some of the monsters. I felt Apex Diablos was fun because the dodge timing was better and you could reliably counter many of his attacks even without sonic bombs. Black Diablos and Diablos in Iceborne? Hell, no. You just have to dodge and dodge over and over until they let you have an opening or get tired. It's aggravating. That's just one instance I can think of off the top of my head but I think my real problem with Iceborne is that you have to take risks too much. To an inexperienced player in older Monster Hunters it LOOKS like an experience player is taking risks, but they aren't. They just know the moves and how to counter them. But in Iceborne MANY monsters play on risk to get good kill times, particularly with a cat or friends. Also YES. A million times yes. Fucking quick moves are so overpowered on monsters in Iceborne. It's the one thing that irritates me the most about some of the Elder Dragons in Iceborne. They come out of no where and you literally cannot predict them until you're already faceplanted. Just, ugh...
@wallacesousuke14335 жыл бұрын

I remember when I first fought Rajang, it felt so intense, using my gore magala set which is already underpowered with some trash sword and shield, I forgot what weapon lol. I had to learn the fight the hard way, dodging every hit because I would die in 1 hit from Rajang. My hands are sweating on every tries trying to beat him. (Since he is the assigned quest monster and I must kill him) Imo, it kinda trained me to be evasive and read movements, due to me being 1 shot all the time and due to my weapon being so weak, I had to search for every openings available. Still not possible. lol. Later on, I decided to switch main to Greatsword because I'm lacking in damage, finally I killed him after learning all the moves while using SnS. Maybe it's because it's the first time I fought something too strong and fast and I was too weak, didn't had troubles until Rajang that it felt so exciting and thrilling. However, in MHW : Iceborne, Rajang doesn't give me the feel like he used to. Maybe the game became easier, maybe the game is harder, but I got good.

Personally, I really like World's Rajang way more than old-gen Rajang (or, at least 4U and GU Rajang, since I haven't played anything before that). I mained Great Sword, and I know Rajang is so much harder in World compared to those games, but I just found old-gen Rajang way too exploitable. It was meant to be a glass cannon, but I think it just went too far with how exploitable and scriptable the encounter could become after just a few attempts. With World's Rajang, it felt like the low monster health was compensated by not having as much access to ripe hitzones and constant aggression. Also, monsters had way more downtime in World, so it was pretty viable to knock Rajang out of his rampage mode and get good damage by whaling on his head. The body hitzones aren't great, but the fact that cutting his tail knocks him out of rampage mode. The difficulty of hitting doesn't make him not a glass cannon, I think it just adjusts the hunter's priorities in a positive way, in my opinion.

I main LS since 2007 and this is legit the only time where i feel like they actually don't want you to be able to get the spirit combo off. You just HAVE TO get some foresight slashes in, otherwise you'll stay below red which sucks massively. The helmsplitter is useless as well in these fights since paying a full level of spirit just isn't worth it if you can't comfortably stay in red. Just aside from the simple lacking of an adequate opening for it. Longsword did just get some minor adjustments to the counter window, but it feels like due to the change of monsters getting speed drugs it feels like a HUGE nerf.

I’ll be honest in Iceborne I just spam GS draw attacks on his tail most of the time, everything else is too risky and isn’t worth the damage. It’s very very easy to hit his tail and there’s no downside to it. Worst thing he can do is a somewhat telegraphed back hop. Kinda sucks for people using other weapons tho. Oddly enough, despite the clutch claw and new mhw mechanics in general, I feel more constrained fighting certain monsters than I did in previous games. In MHW, once I get all the part breaks I can reasonably achieve, I tend to just hit the same part over and over since that’s the quickest way finish the fight, clutch claw mechanic basically encourages this. Why aim for a variety of small weakspots when you can just tenderize the easiest spot to hit and beat the monster down in minutes?
@jamesrobsonza77523 жыл бұрын
If Rajang's hitzones were better and he only rebounds on flinch if enraged then I would love the fight. 1) You can hit his tail to knock him out of enrage so you have a way to bypass rebound mechanic 2) Using the clutch claw on him is no longer as neccessary because hitting his backlegs/chest actually hurts him. You no longer HAVE to engage with the rip-off mechanic. 3) Why the hell is he IMMUNE to 3/5 elements and resists 1 more, also insanely high status buildup resistance and decay, it just makes so many weapons non-viable 3)

As a veteran hunter myself, this summed up how I felt about IB Rajang perfectly! I had learned his moves back in 4U and Gen and he became fun instead of frustrating, and then World came around and I felt like he wasn’t really the same... it’s really the small openings, I think. I have a lot of mixed feelings about the new iterations of past monsters that were added in Iceborne (primarily Rajang and Zinogre), so having this video perfectly sum everything up was great. A really good video with great points and proper analysis! Would love to see the other returning monsters!
@aegisghost4 жыл бұрын
I think the reason they had to do that for Rajang in MHW was just the broken nature of ranged weapons. In earlier additions using anything ranged was pretty much a death sentence. The controls were clunky, the ammo sucked and you took forever to kill. The openings had to be done to make the monsters easier for the players with ranged weapons. Now in MHW, that's completely different. Guns are ridiculous. The LBG can slide AND RELOAD at the same time, the HBG moves you half the map with a single roll, Sticky ammo somehow stuns more than hammers and the new LBG Evade-Mine is just built to punish anything. For guns, Rajang has become a punching bag due to his super-limited moveset and telegraphed moves that don't have a huge hitbox. Quad Punch -> Roll obliquely away him, you'll recover as he's on his 2nd-3rd punch, and just shoot him full of holes as he sails on by you. Forward Slam -> Roll sideways, you'll recover just as he does, and have time for one shot or one Reload (+1/+2 speed) Beam -> Casually walk sideways as he begins the charge animation, then shoot him to your heart's content. Bouncing Hop -> Walk around, with the last hop down you can reload once or fire two shots. Roar -> Roll into the roar to evade, then point-blank him twice. Wall Counterattack -> Roll as he begins animation, you'll recover as he hits the ground. Enough time to fire 2 shots. In fact, most of his moves can be hard-countered with a gun by rolling oblique to him (or for just evade-wyvernblast sideways for LBG, seriously, that's an amazing mod). He has zero tracking and mostly does straight line attacks. Silver Rathalos, on the other hand, hits fucking everything for a mile at once and makes it a pain just to be around. tl:dr The weapons got MUCH easier to handle in World. Evasion got buffed to high heaven. If Rajang still retained the old openings, he would be more of a complete pushover for guns (Which are, seriously, doing way too much damage) Sincerely, An 11.5k HBG Mission Hunter
