It's why I do not tell people in the Discords or Sub-Reddits I play Prowler. Been playing this game series for over a decade and there has always been some fuckass with 3000 hours in every game there to tell me that I don't have good TA numbers. It hasn't changed since MHFU and it won't change in the future.

Ikr, I shared a bow build I made in world that didn't have true crit element but instead had Cons 4, stam surge 3, health 3 and divine bless 3 along with crit element and element acceleration, and everyone insisted it was the worst thing ever because it had 11% less damage than a meta build with true crit element.

@@Hernyy Even though my post was a joke, doesn't Gravios have some of the highest defense (lowest multipliers) against raw, and insane weakness to water? I think I've actually gotten good runs (I'm actually trash at runs outside of World and Ivory Lagiacrus) using high element weapons against it.
@darthplagueis135 жыл бұрын
It very much just depends on the weapon class. Since elemental damage isn't based on motion values but simply a constant that is added on top of the rest it is much better on faster weapons with low motion values like Dual Blades or Sword and Shield than it is on slow weapons with very high mv's like Hammer or Great Sword.
@vitriolicAmaranth5 жыл бұрын
The worst monster in the entire series is black gravios. Pure water element is objectively better against black gravios than any combination of raw and high sharpness. The better your weapon is against black gravios, the less time you have to spend fighting black gravios. It all checks out. Also yeah, in almost all cases water is better than raw on gravios (black and regular). In GU, against regular Gravios, a water GS does more damage than a raw GS before its chest breaks (eg Crit Draw, Crit Boost, Water Atk+2, crit element plesioth watercutter vs crit draw, crit boost, crit eye+3, attack up medium massacre blade, powercharm and talon on both, no other attack buffs (other attack buffs would be flat and drive both ends up equally so they don't matter, only included charms because everyone has them), the plesioth GS will outperform it at breaking the chest, at like 260 damage per draw level 3 for the plesioth blade vs 245 for the xXx_massacre_666_demon_xXx blade), though over the course of an entire hunt, despite the high break point and two-part break of the chest, a player who consistently hits the chest will probably do more damage per hit on average with the raw option thanks to the enormous raw weakspot it gains after its chest is fully broken- Albeit by much less than you might expect. Same goes for hammer. But for EVERY other BM weapon, and maybe every gunner weapon (not sure about HBG), water is better than raw for gravios.
@Dave_Chrome5 жыл бұрын

Truthfully, this debate gets even more complex with the inclusion of affinity, where it's a triangle gauge between all three qualities.
@Sunaki10005 жыл бұрын
Not realy, your just calculating the Enddamage. As long as you not including possible Builds, Sharpness+1 and co., its pretty easy to find the best weapon. More worrysome is then the Sharpness you got is very short. Niblesnarf DBs zB. Good Raw, massive Element and white Sharpness for highrank, but it goes to green superfast.
@JimJamTheAdmin4 жыл бұрын
@@Sunaki1000 this is something I see from a lot of new players who chase damage numbers. Your DPS is gonna lower if you gotta sharpen all the time. You won't see this mistake from elitists tho. They make the mistake of relying purely on TA numbers assuming that every hunt is gonna be populated with optimal builds who have mastered a monster's patterns. Bud, I hunt with randos online. If the damage is competitive with white sharpness and it looks good, it's good enough.
@Sunaki10004 жыл бұрын
@@JimJamTheAdmin sure you dont have to use the best one. In Generations, Astalos and Kirin are the best DBs depending on the Monster, but Lagi, Zinogre and his deviant have good Stats as well. Also Attackpower is usefull but there is no shame in using QoL Skills like light eater, ore Evasion.
@JimJamTheAdmin4 жыл бұрын
@@Sunaki1000 something I had to learn was that depending on the hunter and their playstyle, skills like Evasion and Sheathing can actually be DPS increases that are unquantifiable by regular damage calculations. I always slot quick sheathing on Lance if I can just because I finding myself sheathing a lot and that's comfortable for me.

Another thing you have to keep an eye on is the length of the sharpness. Having a sliver of purple sharpness with a weapon that blows through sharpness, like Dual Blades, isn't going to sustain the damage like if it had long white sharpness. An example of this from 4U was the difference between the Insect Glaives the Hellruin Glaive "Omen" and the Bounding Dalamadur. While the Hellruin Glaive was the most used Insect Glaive because it had 270 raw, high blast, 2 slots, some affinity, and purple sharpness with Sharpness+1, the amount of purple and white sharpness on the weapon was miniscule and it didn't even have any white sharpness without Sharpness+1, either. The Bounding Dalamadur had 300 raw, good blast, 1 slot, and enough white sharpness without Sharpness+1 where you don't need to sharpen most fights. Yes, the Bounding Dalamadur may've had less raw after the sharpness modifier, but because it didn't need to sharpen as often if at all, it was easier to stay in the fight.
@vitriolicAmaranth5 жыл бұрын
Actually hellruin was only preferred early-in-life because bounding dalamadur only became available through legitimate means in the last or second to last month of free dlc. Bounding was always preferred in both TA and random lobbies, both in Japan and internationally, as soon as it became available. But yeah, the reason was that you lost more time sharpening the hellruin than you gained from having a little more raw and some purple, and you even lost the raw advantage on bounding being able to build something other than handicraft.
@Sunaki10005 жыл бұрын
Sure, I myselfe play DBs what burn throught Sharpness like nothing, and there are multible Situations like this. Niblesnarf vs Mizutsune? (Vanilla Gen) Rajang vs Ivory Lagi? (4U) The Quality of the Sharpness wasnt so important after all. Still prefere Crimson Ig whit Razor Sharp and Handicraft.

I lean more towards Sharpness than Raw, though only because I hate having my attacks bounce off at the worst times. Besides, almost every weapon I use is Seregios, so what do I know.
@Dave_Chrome5 жыл бұрын
Hey, Seregios GS will always be godlike. Sure, it's not exactly the best speedrun weapon but the ability to easily sustain purple without needing sharpen is incredible. Think of all the arena quests...

Same, higher sharpness for me just means less sharpening every time - since I've been using gunlance and getting used to charge blades, they eat through sharpness frightfully quickly
@tylermacgregor13205 жыл бұрын
I’ll always prefer a high damage weapon because I can still stack some handicraft and a purple sharpness boost in on top of it and it’ll ultimately end up doing more damage than a weapon with a native purple sharpness. Only time I ever find myself using a native max sharpness weapon is if it either already has fairly high damage, like the Tigrex weapons or the Wyvern Ignition, or if I just like the way it looks, like the Odogaron insect glaive in World.

To add to your hunch about MHWI keeping the nerfed purple sharpness modifier, the guy directing MHWI is also the guy who directed MHXX. I'm sure he has a lot of the experience he learned making MHXX that he will carry over to MHWI. Excellent video, by the way. Straight and to the point. Also, I usually don't enjoy attempts at humorous skits, but I liked yours because of how accurate it is to real world community arguments in Monster Hunter, especially that bit about how you're automatically discredited in an argument unless you have four-digit-number hours in a given Monster Hunter title.

Great video! Intro was hilarious and info was all good. The conversation gets even more complicated though when you consider the potential for purple to cut through some things white don't. Some enemies white is even potentially dangerous against and purple can save your life (yeah yeah, get good argument is applicable, but the statement remains true). Same thing with quantity of sharpness. I'm more pro-purple than pro-white, but if I'm only going to get a couple hits out of purple then I'm better off with a white weapon that has higher stats than having to sharpen every 10 seconds lol. Especially since I'm a huge fan of dual blades and they just straight hemorrhage sharpness.

I actually made a spreadsheet to compare sharpness modified damages. By the time you reach the 300s a white weapon with 20 more raw does just a little over the purple, with 30 more vastly exceeding. Now this doesn't take affinity into account but I just wanted to know how hard a regular hit strikes. So in the opening scene argument, 360 White guy is right, assuming they can each maintain their respective sharpness and have similar affinity values with their weapon+armor skills

Speaking of hunting horns, afaik they're the only weapon where the best raw option (deviant uragaan) is actually best used with bludgeoner. The best raw CB is akantor iirc, but you just build that for phial damage, not bludgeoner. Also on the offchance anyone wants to point out that the most popular raw horn in TA is deviant arzuros, I actually ran ASS for the best possible set for each horn using any legal charm, and not only does uragaan's horn come out like 2% stronger after buffing, it has AUL vs AUS on the arzuros horn, making it that much better for multiplayer as well. The XX TA scene was DOA because the japanese community rejected this game based on the quality of the previous one, and HH is the least popular weapon on top of that, so the cream never had a chance to rise to the top.
