Comments are back! this is a rare game, you can find it on ebay ("abandonware" sites have a glitch where you can't save with the barbarian). the CD version has no special features not found in the floppy disk version.

Oh yeah! I remember spending *weeks* playing this on a ZX Spectrum some 20 years ago =))) BTW, if you're here for the music, there was an absolutely epic piano version somewhere on zxtunes.com, called "Heroquest in-game piano" or something like that...

It's only 20 years old. Dungeons and Dragons came out MUCH earlier and is the "prime father" of all role playing games.

Despite the obvious thematic inspiration from Tolkien (who was inspired by European legend & mythology) I learned that D&D evolved from "Chainmail" which was inspired by earlier castle war games (never played them but I remember those little plastic knights that had green metal bases in the 80's, and advertisements for similar types of miniatures in comic books from the early 70's). fantasy dungeon games were spun off from fantasy war games which were spun off from traditional war games... a fascinating history! but we all owe Gary Gygax and his friends a debt of gratitude.

@HeroQuestFans2 жыл бұрын
ebay for this game... though there is now (as of 2022) a free "companion app" for the remake board game (fully compatible with the classic game, just has 3 optional new heroes) but it only works on android or ios (apple) mobile devices. you need a treasure deck and your own dice, but otherwise just pencil & paper if you don't have a full physical set. NOW there are also fan-made games called "Isometric HeroQuest" by Lurchbrick (same author as the Space Crusade fan board video game) and there are also VASSAL mods that have a HeroQuest theme. YeOldeInn has the links to these free games.

Actually they do. If an Amiga soundtrack is reduced to the technical capabalities of another platform it's crap. But when a soundtrack has been specially made for MIDI or the C64's SID chip, then it's awesome. ;) Btw: I am a C64 owner. :P

yes another fan game! there's now (2022) an official companion app for the remake game (works just as well with the classic versions too). keep in mind they assume you will be using a physical game with it, though dice and treasure deck are really all you need besides pencil & paper

it has its flaws for sure, but it was really a novelty in the 90s to have a video game version of HeroQuest. if you exploit the weaknesses of the game it is probably the least challenging version you could ever play. I have some nostalgia for the intro and music, even though I didn't own this in 1991 I have played it a lot.
