DK is my favorite game EVAAAr. I do have an FX version on my pc. The 2 last levels are epic and difficult and it takes hours to finish them. Too bad you touched on only the basics and showed the first 5-6 levels. Horny and his fits deserved a mention :) The expansion is the whole other level of difficult. And it's awesome. Regarding dark humor: I love to watch the animation when I slap the creatures, when they eat chickens. Most of them are unique animations. Also they look different when you grab them with your evil hand. Hellhound's constant need to urinate on the cemetery always cracks me up. But possess the creature is pretty awesome. When I was 10 it was like a dream come true. All other "god view" strategy games I had at the time never had that feature. And my 10 year old brain was imagining it and wanting it so bad. Flash forward to our day....damn, we've got all the techmologies but Nothing will replace DK in my heart. I still play through it once a year. Thanks for the review and an excuse for me to write this.

My Favorite thing about this game was first person mode, and it wasn't as useless as you may think you just had to be creative. For example, you could use a minion to infiltrate the competitors base, while running a distraction with the AI controlled minions, exposing areas not seen before. If you use your highest leveled characters with long range weapon capability, you can handle any trouble you may encounter, avoiding many issues using first person line of sight.

@irllcd137 жыл бұрын
They fucked over Westwood in the same way. Bioware games are the only EA products I buy. If they ever let Visceral make Dead Space 4 I'll buy that too. But really, I hope EA goes out of business. I really do.
@irllcd137 жыл бұрын
CD Projekt RED gave BioWare and Bethesda a massive bitchslap. These companies are supposed to be veterans of the RPG genre and then here comes this (untill recently) small, relatively unknown company from Poland, and shows them how to make a great RPG, something BioWare and Bethesda have apparently forgotten how to do. What's even worse, as far as the business assholes are concerned, they do it while treating the players like adults and not treating their paying customers like criminals. There's a reason why CDPR is revered by gamers, and EA is loathed. For gamers, EA is practically a swear word. What pisses me off about buyouts is this: Ok, some company does well, they make good games and are successful, sales and reviews are good, so someone wants a piece of the action. Right, that's fine, I get it, so then a publisher buys the company. But then they cockblock the developer and try to tell them what to do, they step on the toes of the talented ccreative people that made them want to buy the company in the first place, and then they act surprised when the next game doesn't sell as well as expected. Well gee! I wonder why. Why the fuck could that be? It couldn't be the dumbass suit sitting in a boardroom that doesn't even play games who can only see the world through the lens of the latest focus group getting in the way of the people that actually know what the fuck their doing. Look at Dead Space 3, that's exactly what happened. What we got was not the DS3 Visceral wanted to make. EA basically forced them and then the sales underpreformed. Even from a business standpoint this doesn't make sense. Why bring on talented, knowledgable people if you aren't going to let them do their job? This isn't just a problem with EA. Activision is no better and neither is Ubisoft or Konami. The real problem is games have become big business. Now we have a bunch of stupid buisnessy rich fucks like Mitt Romney calling the shots instead of the passionate people. This is why CDPR is successful, they care about the games. They make good money and that's great, but they would still be doing this if they weren't making a lot, because it's what they love doing, it's not about the money. The money is just a nice bonus. That's how you know when someone is an artist, or a whore. It doesn't matter what it is, video games, acting, music, painting, writing, whatever, ANYTHING. If they're doing it for the money, they're a whore. If they genuinely love what they do and would still do it if they were poor, they're an artist. When money and big companies get involved in things, they suck all the life, passion, spirit and integrity out of it. I really hope CDPR resists attempts to get acquired, they are publically traded but they are still their own majority stockholder, and I hope EA and the rest of them take a good long look at what CDPR is doing right and what they are doing wrong.

What can I say about this classic gem of GAMEPLAY? No matter what kind of video game genre you prefer, you have to play this one.. Like the corny saying of 100 movies or paintings or poems or whatever to see before you die, Dungeon Keeper is surely on top 10 of games to play before you die. It's the little subtle details that makes this a pure pleasure of experiencing. Like the different ways your creatures eat their chickens, or been tortured, or dislike other species, or how they sleep, how much are being paid,or even what are the first abilities they learn as they level up which clearly defines their character and work ethics. Take for instance the backbone of your dungeon. The imp. The blue collar worker of the century. I mean the way they prioritize their tasks is phenomenal (genius programming). First they dig you the gold. The more you slapped them (btw I never did..I respected them way too much) the faster they worked without getting angry or giving you the finger (Bile Demons on the other hand..) or even liking it (the Mistress..oh man.. in a group like the Vampires were unstoppable) So after delivering the traps, collecting prisoners, fortifying your walls, sending the corpses to the graveyard only then they could steal a tiny bit of time to replenish their energy by smoking(?) their pipe. And if your dungeon heart got attacked then they drop off any task in an instance and rush through your corridors to protect your core with their life. I mean come on.. If only I can steal an imp to sort out the bureaucracy of my life in general..haha. I can write pages about the philosophy and coehesion of this game. Bullfrog team under Peter Molyneux was a beast and this game is the perfect example. And as most things in life, it takes time to really appreciate it. Thank you Clint for the review. PS Dungeon Keeper 2 as a stand alone game was decent. But as the sequel of DK 1, it lacked on so many levels..

Dungeon Keeper 2 had some streamlining that made sense for the user experience, and multiplayer - namely the Call-to-Arms feature and constructing doors and traps, not to mention building rooms and picking up minions - but it lost some of the soul and ingenuity of the original. The original had a lot of interesting dynamics and options that allowed for a lot of sideways strategies (converting minions via the scavenger room, claiming territory with invisible imps, etcetera), whereas Dungeon Keeper 2 was built for the direct style of get-minions-level-minions-attack-with-minions. Both good in their own right, but there was nothing quite like the original, if you ask me. If you're interested in a modern taken on the game, take a look at War for the Overworld - it regularly goes on sale. Good video! Cheers!

Dungeon Keeper 2 was my very first PC game given to me by my parents as a gift. It took me several weeks to understand what to do in game through trial and error but once I had all the game mechanics down, it was very satisfying. The more you progress in the game the more demanding of a dungeon is required to run. The narrator's voice is awesomely creepy and the cut scenes are hysterically funny.

I vaguely remember playing this game round my cousin's house when I was young, thank you so much for reminding me of it and letting me know where I can get it! Just played the first two levels and urgh the nostalgia!

Can you imagine how cool it would be to have a "Build-your-own-dungeon" DLC for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim?!

Love dungeon keeper! I remember playing it when I was about 4/5, thanks to a dad who wasn't fussed what games I played. It was great! So many memories

radishdalek now thats an amazing title that i completely forgot about a whole bunch ofem in the early 2000's the one that let you make gator sharks and the one that put you in charge of haunting houses RTS needs a kick ass PC exclusive comeback !

Now THAT needs a review. Evil Genius is one of the titles that I make an effort to go back to because its just FUN.

I wish Evil Genius was better. Really enjoyed it but flawed as hell.

Epic review of a great game. My mum used to hate 2 games and always asked me to put the sound lower, that was Carmagaddon and this game, 'cause of the Mistress who liked the torture rooms so much.

Funny you bring up Peter Molyneux as @LarryBundyJr. makes fun of him in some videos. EDIT (5/6/2022): Most videos I should say. This comment is so old it makes me feel old.

Some? Isn't it most? :P It's nice to see that he wasn't always a punching bag. He did start to promise too much in his games and not deliver, but these were his good times.
@jakejutras27337 жыл бұрын
Why wouldn't he? This is Peter's game and to be frank back in the day he was a prolific developer who could do no wrong. Turns out he could but yeah lmao.

As someone who was extremely excited for Black and White, all I can say is that the criticism is probably warranted.

Larry manages to include a Peter joke in EVERY video. He must really hate him.

The thing about molyneux is that hed over-promise like there was no tomorrow. Even if the game is pretty good, the hype train will still go off the rails. If he could just shut his mouth.

I look at your shelves and think "What kind of weirdo has that many games?" Then I look closely and say "Ooh, I had that game. Oh and that one. Yeah that one too. And that one, and that one, and that one..." Now I know what kind of weirdo has that many games. Bullfrog was so good. One of my favorite development houses, along with Microprose, oh, and Maxis, and Sierra, and...

When I was a kid I saw my dad play this and I eventually got into it when I was around 9 or 10. I almost completely forgot about it until I booted up my dad's old laptop and found it. So I downloaded onto my laptop and I'm filled with nostalgia.

"Even if you have no idea what's going on or what you're really looking at." Exactly. I don't remember how the disk came to me, but I had no instruction manual. I learned that game a bit as a time as I played it. The moment when I found out I could possess minions and switch to a first person perspective. .... it was like a dream come true.... I don't know if any other game has ever matched that experience for me.

Blizzard had best manuals back in day. Like in diablo 1/2 and warcraft 1/2/3. I loved that they included concept art in them.
