It's strange to me how songs or melodies with which I'm already familiar are fresh and mysteriously new when played upon the twelve string. The beauty of this is hard -- or impossible -- to really articulate. What a way to start my morning, with a hot cup of coffee and the exquisite sound of your guitar ringing through the air.

You sound better on one guitar than my entire band sounded together when we played this 😅 Fantastic arrangement and incredible performance as always, Angela. I especially liked how you interpreted the "call and response" vocal parts. Bravissima!

Mr Bowie as Ziggy was one of my first concerts as a teenager. Always been a fan and this song was one of my favorites. You let me look at it in a new light. Thank you ..

LOVE the history of this song! The Thin White Duke wrote this tune in dedication to a German couple who loved one another and vowed to always be together. They would meet under a Gun turret along The Belin Wall every single day! David Bowie sang this for the first time at The Berlin Wall in 1987 so that BOTH sides could hear the words! He said it was the most emotional performance he ever gave! 45 years later to the day Angela and you just did the same for ALL of us in this Community! Much Thanks for sharing this remarkable cover! Cheers and Blessings From Ohio and Keep Strutting Everyone!

@@harryschaefer8563 Appreciate this Harry! I too found out about it only yesterday as it was mentioned in another story I was reading. So, you can imagine how Cool it was to see that Angela's Surprise Tune was in fact this Gem of a song! I instantly got goosebumps by Angela's playing and by the sheer coincidence of the song and story too! Cheers Bruddah
@JacobVBurg2 жыл бұрын
The story I've heard is that it was about his producer Tony Visconti and his German girlfriend who shared a quick kiss near the wall during a recording break at the studio. David saw them through the window and he said the image of them together conjured the idea that you described in your comment and he wrote the lyrics spur of the moment in the time it took them to return inside. So he used their quick moment together and expanded the idea into what became the song. edit: It's also a nod to the song "Hero" by the German band Neu! off their 1975 albume Neu! 75, a massive influence for both Low and Heroes as full albums. "Hero" is about the singer losing the love of his life because her family takes her back to Norway from Germany so that they can never see each other again. It ties heavily into the idea of star-crossed lovers separated by the Wall.

Grazie Angela! Just saw Moonage Daydream the other day, there's a bit where we see David playing the flamenco chords from Space Oddity, it reminded me how much I love the chime of a 12-string in conjunction with his music… this wonderful cover of Heroes drives the point even further home. Gorgeous tribute!
