also the Bf 110 at 2:00 is wrong. The belly MGs are late war. Also the Spitfires have their ailerons down which means they are fucked. Not flyable in that way. 10:24 the Flaps that should be down are inboard of the ailerons.

I am an English man and I am disgusted at the way the Polish were treated after the war, I am also disgusted that more, much more was not done to help them during the atrocities in the Warsaw ghetto. I am grateful for the fact that twice the Polish saved us from slavery, once from the Nazis and once at the gates of Vienna. For these reasons whenever I meet a polish man I shake his hand in gratitude for the selfless bravery of his forbears.

A very shortened WWII Polish history lesson: (1) With their minds: Polish mathematical geniuses constructed the 1st enigma machine prototype and blueprint to breaking Germanys enigma code. (2) In The Air: Escaped Polish fighter pilots formed the 3 most effective fighter squadrons during the battle of Briton. The 3 top Polish squadrons were credited with both the highest number of confirmed kills, and kills per lost pilot. Including the legendary 303 Polish RAF squadron depicted so well in this video, the most decorated allies fighter squadron of WWII. (3) On the Ground: In Italy Polish soldiers lead four separate assaults before defeating the Germans in the battle of Monte Cassino. One of the wars most heavily fortified and fiercely defended strategic German strongholds, and one of the costliest resulting in over 55,000 allied casualties. Note: The Polish Army and Polish Air Force under British Command, fought in every WW2 major battle, including the Battle of Britain, Market Garden, Monte Cassino, El Alamein, and D-Day. (4) The saddest of endings: Despite the promises by both Churchill and Roosevelt, both met in secrete with Stalin and agreed let Stalin/USSR keep and occupy Poland. This decision led to decades of abuse and suffering of the whole Polish population up and until the fall of the Berlin wall. As a final insult, on Stalin's request to Churchill the WWII Polish surviving soldiers, pilots, and generals were denied participation in Great Briton's Victory Parade. Honorable mention: In 1940 JOZEF STANISLAW KOSACKI invented the Polish Mine Detector that saved countless Allied lives during the war. I'm getting pretty old now, but my grandparents barely escaped from Poland. Much of my knowledge was passed on to me though my grandfather and father, as nearly all family history and documents were destroyed in the war and later Russian occupation. Of course, this is a surface scratch level history above, but gives some incite and starting points for those who enjoy history research...

What a beautifully told story! I'm Polish and I teared up a bit when the video ended, but they were tears of joy. I've heard stories about the 303 for as long as I can remeber, but none of made me cry, that is until now. I fell so proud about being a Pole. Thank you.

Yes, they were brave but they weren't fighting recklessly. They had totally different tactics than RAF and Luftwaffe. In september 1939 Poland had worst airplanes, they were much slower. Flying Hurricanes polish pilots had an opportunity to fly faster fighters. Technically, they took the advantage of that. The most famous Squadrons of polish pilots were: 302 and 303.

Near the end of the war my dad was in the rear turret of a 61 Squadron Lancaster. It was the only op my dad mentioned and he said they were attacked by ME262's. A Lancaster from his Squadron was shot down and one from 50 Squadron too. But escorting Mustangs shot down four of the jets. It wasn't till only a few years ago and many years after my dad passed away that I found out the Mustangs were from 309 and 315 Polish Squadrons. Knocking down 4 of those jets is good going and has been forgotten by history. On that same op 617 Squadron dropped 2 22,000lb earthquake bombs as well tallboys. My dad never mentioned that either

It was the UK as a WHOLE and not solely Scotland who provided a safe national home to the refugee Poles after WW2. Strangely enough the Scottish TUC were hugely opposed to the 1947 Polish Resettlement Act, feeling that the huge influx of educated Poles would dilute the bargaining power of Scottish tradesmen and provide unwelcome competition.

Can you do one on another group of relatively unknown pilots Escaudron 201. Aka the only time Mexico deployed troops overseas to fight in a major war.

On the 30th of August F/O Ludwik Paszkiewicz actually shot down a BF110 of 4./ZG 76. (This was incorrectly recorded as a Dornier Do 17) The crashed Bf 110 was excavated in 1982. Later during the Battle of Britain, it was found that the performance of the twin-engined Bf110 did not match that of the RAF's Hurricanes and Spitfires so they had to be escorted into battle by Bf109s! It is this fact that probably led to F/O Ludwik Paszkiewicz miss identifying the aircraft as he probably assumed it was a bomber that was being escorted by Bf109s and not a fighter. Thank you however for an excellent piece of work please keep this up.

'...Later during the Battle of Britain, it was found that the performance of the twin-engined Bf110 did not match that of the RAF's Hurricanes and Spitfires so they had to be escorted into battle by Bf109s!...' This is incorrect. The only Bf 110 unit that received fighter escort was the fighter-bomber unit Erprobungsgruppe 210, and they received escort because they were classed as 'bombers' and so received escort to get them to the target and unload their bombs. Most of the time their escort came from the Bf 110s of Zerstörergeschwader 26, and on other occasions from the Bf 110s of Zerstörergeschwader 76 and V.(Z)/LG1. Pure Bf 110 fighter units NEVER received Bf 109 escort - that is a myth!

I'm in tears as this reminds me of my late father, before WW2 he was due to join the Polish Air Force but it was discovered he was colour blind, so he and his brother ended up in the Polish Army, when WW2 broke out his unit was captured by the Germans, his brothers unit was captured by the Russians, he was never seen again presumed he died in captivity. Apparently Polish soldiers were given the choice to fight for Germany, soldiers got better fed than prisoners, he and so many others managed to escape to the western front where they ended up being billeted in Scotland, there he decided to get a trade and became a Army cook, after the war the Poles were allowed to stay or return to Poland, many stayed as they feared the Russians more than the Germans. He got work in a Bournemouth hotel where he met his British bride and ten years later I was on the scene. He would never talk about the war years I only discovered his story after his passing. However he enjoyed a long fruitful life more than many of his Polish family or colleagues did. He may of not been a hero but his survival skills allowed for my brother and I and my three daughters and nine grandchildren to be born, and I miss him dearly.

Absolutely gorgeous animation in this one and I loved seeing some of the planes that don’t receive as much attention like the Polish PZL P11s and early model Bf110s. Also, as always, I greatly appreciate the stories you bring to light of heroism in the face of adversity. Keep up the excellent work!!

The absolute quality is insane, from the character models like the small wrinkles to the small details on the aircraft is outstanding. This is a long way from the more cartoonish look we had back in the day. And better yet Is it on the polish RAF squadron. Well done Yarny, well done

@Yarnhub, my dudes, listen; I watch and rewatch your videos on my lunch break most days and you darn near made me choke when you first showed someone's face in this video. Holy crap, how do you keep improving your animation so much in every single video you put out? It's top notch now so not sure how you can do improve on this but I look forward to seeing it.

Song: Aces in Exile Album: Coat of Arms Band: Sabaton In the skies above the isle, Aces in exile prevail From near and far they arrived, joined the force Ready to serve the allied command Sent into training though they already earned their wings They were ready fly, they were fit for the fight Once in the air, the battle begins They have proven their worth, now they fly for revenge Fighter pilots in exile fly over foreign land Let their story be heard, tell of 303rd Fighter pilots from Poland in the battle of Britain Guarding the skies of the isle Even at night shadows cover the ground And the fighting goes on from dusk until dawn With the claw of the Reich with the claw of the eagle They were ready to fly, they were ready to die Up in the air the battle goes on They have proven their worth, now they have their revenge Fighter pilots in exile fly over foreign land Tell their story again, tell of 310 Men from Czechoslovakia in the battle of Britain Guarding the skies of the isle Over the battlefield brave men long way from home Few are the chosen ones sent to the sky to die Over the battlefield brave men long way from home Few are the chosen ones sent to the sky to die [Guitar Solo] Fly, it echoes in history Turning the tide in the heavens above Fighter pilots in exile fly over foreign land When the battle has been won, tell of 401 Fighter pilots from Canada in the battle of Britain Guarding the skies of the isle On wings of history they turned from home to live eternally skybound they roam In all of history, never before was more owed to so few Fighter pilots in exile!

The lyrics of the song would be more accurate if they said "Guarding the skies of the refuge they'd been given by the British from nazi and communist tyranny to enable them to continue the fight against the oppresors of their country". Now if someone could fit that line into the song, they would indeed deserve a "Grammy" award.

Amazing story telling, I always get excited when a yarnhub video is released. I love the way the animation ties in so well with the history of the past. It's as close as I'll ever get to witnessing the events of the past and I'm grateful to be shown a glimpse of what these battles were like.
