17:35 Nice tidbit: strong chance seeing as how Yoko was from the Bay/San Francisco area that's probably how he actually talked. A lot of Poly/Islander/Hawaiian and some Asians (think Filipinos) tend to live in the sides of town alongside African-Americans so dialect wise they "adapted" it if it makes sense. Rikishi's accent in interviews is more pronounced obviously since he's older, while his sons have what is basically the modern equivalent. Funny thing is, The "Bay Accent" has it's roots in America's South, as a lot of black families in the South (think Tennessee, Texas and Arkansas specifically) migrated to California, which is why it has almost a twang/drawl to it. I'm a Dialectology nerd, and Iived in the area for a few years so yeah. ha! Great show boys!

@@princesstamika Specifically, listen to Snoop Dogg. Although he was born and raised mostly in Long Beach, both of his parents were from Mississippi and he has an rather strong Southern-sounding twang to his voice that surely is a part of his success. I'm from Alabama and growing up I always wondered why this rapper from California sounded so Southern. When I read about his family it all made sense.
@JennaLeigh2 жыл бұрын
@@OptimumTaurus I am also from Alabama, and fascinated by language and dialects. I never knew Snoop's parents were from Mississippi! It does explain the slight drawl to his speech. Another fascinating dialect, IMO: after The Louisiana Purchase, the vast majority of non-natives in Louisiana were enslaved Africans. The Purchase Included land from what would be 15+ states, leading white colonial powers to move in, mixing with the already being racially mixed Louisiana. As it had changed hands from the Spanish to the French, it was a mix of multiple cultures and languages- a mixture still present today, in particular in South Louisiana - as in Louisiana south of Interstate 10. The hotel I work at is located right off Interstate 10 and I've met hundreds of South Louisiana residents, and their dialects range from Haitian influenced to French Creole (Cajun French), to more modern turns- I termed it "hood country". It's a pronounced classic southern accent coupled with colloquialisms of traditionally black vernacular. It's a fascinating mixture. I've said it for ages, but IMO Louisiana is the strongest standalone evidence of the "melting pot" America claims to be.

I have been a fan of Jake Roberts ever since i discovered him. I wasn't alive during his prime, but thanks to video libraries and the internet, i got to watch him perform, and loved it. It was really depressing to then learn about what happened to him with the years that came. Then i read about how DDP was trying to help both him and Hall, but they both kept falling off the wagon, so i was not too optimistic. But he kept fighting, and by god he made it. I remember like yesterday watching the HoF and even though every other induction was great (yes even Mr. T), I only managed to watch until Jake finished his speech. Not only DDP inducting him already made me tear up, and he deserves a place in heaven for what he has done for them, but all of his speech was just so genuine and full of emotion, that it broke me down for minutes. He is the living proof that every single one of us can strive and fight to just do and be better, and that happy endings are possible even when everything seems dark. "Never underestimate the power you give someone by believing in them" - DDP, about Jake "The Snake" Roberts

I think part of it is that the WWF rings in the 90s and before were much harder than today, so you wore your body out much faster. Plus, the drug culture of wrestling in the 80s and 90s really aged guys.

Little awkward bringing up the Hannibal/Abdullah thing, when Hannibal does bloody matches after knowing he has Hep C, and legit stabbed a ref
@wisewolftony Жыл бұрын
He might be cured of it as there are ways to do such a thing now. But that being said still have very little sympathy for Hannibal after he almost killed that ref in front of the refs daughter and then tried to use like 20 different BS excuses as to why it happened when the reason is dudes a nut job. Guy also has a massive hate boner for Kevin Owens. Stumbled on his channel ages ago when I was just looking up videos of Kevin Owens. I watched his videos where dude literally has compilation video of him interviewing old retired wrestlers why he ends up asking them about Owens and him and the retired wrestler than shit on him for a few minutes. Imagine his hate for Owens comes down to the fact that they both were trained by the same guy at the same time and Owens became a huge name in wrestling main eventing WM twice in a row and Hannibal went nowhere with his career. Yea there is the so called contract from WWE but dude was never gonna make it in WWE seeing how if he was talented enough he would have had much more success in the Indie scene. Not to mention your not gonna make it in the WWE with an attitude like his where even well before the ref incident dude was pretty much black balled from every Canadian promotion to the point where only way he could get bookings was by creating his own promotion. Also has a history of women abuse.
@JackgarPrime10 ай бұрын
@@wisewolftonyIt sucks that the most active shoot interview channel is his because I'm interested in hearing what these guys have to say, but I don't want him specifically to profit from it.
@wisewolftony10 ай бұрын
@@JackgarPrime Yea even before that I couldn't stand him as any old talent he would have on he would find some way to ask them about Kevin Owens and they would shit talk him probably feeding them what to say. And then the time he tried to cancel Owens be resurfacing a video from like 2006 from PWG where Owens said the N word in a promo because the black talent he was feuding with wanted him to say it and it's something he apologized for like 3 yrs before Hannibal dredged it up again in his attempt to try and hopefully get him fired from WWE. So dude was already a pathetic loser who couldn't take a far more talented wrestler having success that he somehow feels should be his. But then the ref things happen which shows he's not only sad and pathetic but is also fucking insane POS.

I cant even begin to tell u guys what u have gotten me through. Some of the absolute darkness times in my life occurred these last three years. There were so many times, at some super late hour, I was lying in my bed absolutely broken, feeling totally hopeless, about to give up on life because I didn't see the point and I would have you guys playing in the background and some old thing would be said and it would just completely make me crumble into laughter. I would be right at that razor sharp point anyone who's ever thought about killing themselves understands exactly what I am talking about. Where the wrong breath means u dont come back. Your show, you guys and what u guys do has saved my existence more than once. I cant say thank u enough

I know I'm nobody important, but I've been there too, man. I know the feeling of being so broken and alone that it's almost just an empty numbness. Know that you matter. You're here for a reason, and every day you get up and fight is another day to get stronger and get better. I'm binging OSW Review right now because I'm dealing with my father passing unexpectedly. There's something about watching these videos and laughing with these guys, commenting and chatting with fellow fans- it feels like watching wrestling with friends. I pray you're in a better place now, but if not, reply to me. I'll shoot you my social medias and we can talk. Just know you're not alone. Love to you. 🤘🏻❤️

Put it on to listen in the background, ended up giving it my full attention, and I've been here since. Scorpio coming out with a Big Gold Belt replica is pretty sad. If you're going to come to the ring with an unsanctioned title belt, invent your own title like Taz's FTW title or the Million Dollar belt. Great way to get heat is to declare yourself a champion with your own title.
