I had a teacher in Primary school with the same attitude towards wrestling as Salem in this "exposé". It aired on Channel 5 2000/2001 in the UK when I first watched this (might be wrong about the channel). I was in Primary 7 and my teacher had some sort of intelligence superiority complex. For example she got off on telling the class how stupid they were for buying Coca-Cola as it was just "fizzy flavoured water" so you can imagine what her opinion of a good percentage of the class watching a predetermined sport was. Anyway, the first time we were back in the classroom after this particular broadcast she came swaggering in thinking we would all have had denounced wrestling and went along with her way of thinking. She was so disappointed to find that wasn't the case. Her face was like Jamie Oliver's after he failed to convince those kids not to eat McNuggets by showing them how they were made...

That was/is part of the problem. I dare just about anyone to build a home made mat then say to a sober friend: hey pile drive or ddt or what ever me. Reminds me of a 99ish episode of Nitro when Mean Gene tried to get a cheap pop by referring to the "Home of the Islanders" in Long Island and got a loud "boo" echoing around the arena. A visibly bemused Mean Gene chuckled and said, "Well... maybe not the most popular team in Long Island..."

I believed wrestling was real as a kid growing up during the Attitude Era. After falling off for a while and only getting back into things around 2017, I find a new appreciation in how much trust, skill and co-operation it takes for two people to have a match. Obviously it's fake, you're not picking up a 6 foot +, musclebound man in the traditional suplex posture, and you're obviously not delivering real bareknuckle punches and neckbreakers. It's insulting to assume that people only enjoy wrestling because they're too stupid to realise it's fake.

The FPoD wasn't breaking kayfabe at all. Kevin Nash and the rest never tried to sell that him being poked in the chest actually knocked him out. In storyline, Nash was choosing to lay down for Hogan, and simply give him the belt back. Nash laying down for Hogan was the storyline. Everyone acknowledged that he was pretending to be laid out. If I remember right, the punt on Vince was legit. He did get a concussion from it. Vince wanted to really sell the move to be as dangerous as possible, and wanted to replay himself getting the move as much as possible in the buildup to Wrestlemania. Every other time Randy did it, they really only showed it once, so it didn't matter if it looked great. Since people would see the Vince one repeatedly, they'd be under the impression that ALL of the them looked as real. I also wouldn't put it past Vince to use it as leverage if any of the superstars didn't want to do a risky maneuver. "You don't want to do that? It's nothing I wouldn't do. I mean, I got kicked in the head, I'm not asking you to do something like that."

Just pointing it out: Joe performs a variation of the Muscle-Buster. His version is somewhat save, but the originall one isn't. For the originall Muscle-Buster you jump and land on your butt, thus putting all of the force on your opponents neck. It's basically a powered-up version of a piledriver which is way harder to perform without harming your partner. This move became famous because of a now legendary Manga-series which even has its own national holiday called "Kinnikuman". That's also were its name came from because Kinniku is the Japanese word for "Muscle", and, well, the Kinniku-Buster was the most popular finisher of the title-character. (Also: The Kinniku-Buster got incorporated into 2 different Tag-Team finishers called "Muscle-Docking" and the "Muscle=>Lap". The first use of the Muscle-docking is considered a legendary moment in japanese action comics, look it up. Even King from tekken does it once in his Tekken 5 ending.) If one of you ever read this: Please watch and/ or read Kinnikuman. It's not only the originator of the "Fighting Shounen"-Genre (Which later gave us such marvels like "Dragonball", "One-Piece", "My Hero Academia" and many, many, many more) but it is also an insanly good wrestling story. The authors really get wrestling, and the matches are amazing. The evn have cameos of some of the most famous 80ies wrestlers like Dusty, Giant baba and more. Plus: The patrairch of the Von erich family is literally a god in this Mangas Universe. No Joke.

The lads managed not to notice the very worst selling/worst move in this. In the background at 31:28. The two heels do this weird double-chokeslam push thing to the babyface, who jumps way back, hits the back of his head on both the top AND middle turnbuckle, slips and falls, sells for a second, then just springs up to his feet so he's standing in the corner. Fucking hell.

47:22 I remember they did an angle where Kidman turned heel and started intentionally injuring people with the Shooting Star Press. It started with him feeling guilty for what happened to Chavo and blaming the fans who wanted to see him do it for Chavo's injury. Then him refusing to do it started making him and Paul London lose tag matches until Kidman snapped and hit the SSP on London.

Honestly I fucking loved this back when I first saw it and it was also one of the first big wrestling things I saw that actually explained how stuff worked, so I learned a lot. It's patronizing and stupid but it needs some points for at least trying to be informative and succeeding with certain aspects. (Also Stunt Granny, get in my stable!)

I remember watching this and getting the distinct feeling that the makers were ALSO bullshitting. Harley Race feeding them bad info actually explains a TON. But also learnt some legit interesting stuff like the blood and chairs being real, and about calling spots. We had a friend at that 'Mania where Orton did the videogame counter RKO to Rollins' Curb Stomp, and he said he FELT the sound from the crowd. Hell, we made enough noise in the bar we were in...

16:57 LMFAO!. Also, Salem sounds like such a condescending twat throughout the entire show. Remember first seeing this on Sky One like it was yesterday. Even back then at age 10, I knew about almost all the things they "revealed" on it. You need to be an extra kind of special to think wrestling is a shoot, especially when Undertaker can make lightning bolts appear from the power of his hands lol
@richardtherichard263 жыл бұрын
Wait undertakers lightning conjuring powers aren’t real? What about Kane’s ability to control fire? That ones real tho right? And they’re definitely, totally, completely, 100% real brothers. Right?

God, one of the beautiful things about Kobashi's Burning Hammer is that he won fewer than ten matches with it in his career. You could lose to Kobashi, but if he used the Hammer on it it meant you were legitimate.

I know it's hard for actors to make money and they have to take any gig. But really, I could only guess that there may have been a pay cut for Sabrina the Teenage Witch and The Angry Beavers if he went and did this.

I brought a homemade Hitman sign to Summerslam '92, but since I was sitting right at the back relying on binoculars for much of the event, I'm not sure it made much of an impact. Anyhow, as ever, great work fellas - keep doing it to-ing it.

Undertaker and Kane were never banned from using the Tombstone. Standard piledrivers were banned after Owen broke Austin's neck in 1997. Also, the Styles Clash has been allowed in WWE ever since AJ Styles came into the company.

To be fair... The Jay Leno match really isn't that bad. Jay literally only gets offense in when DDP has set him up to do so. So Page knocks Hogan's guard down, Leno comes in and capitalises. It actually makes kayfabe sense.

okay but as you were talking about the styles clash - the potential for wrestlers to completely botch where the neck goes is also the reason that michelle mccool is no longer allowed to use the faithbreaker. unlike aj tho, she only has one real finisher outside of it - the big boot... im a bit of a mccool mark but seriously? at least steal one of your husbands finishers XD
