Darth Vader proving once again why he is the the greatest movie villain of all time. The way he grabbed that ship out of the air, dragged it back down, and then ripped it apart it something I thought we would only see in the comics or novels and never brought to live action. And then the way he fought….well let’s face it, Reeva was fighting, Vader was just toying with her and breaking her spirit. He never even used his own lightsaber against her, like she wasn’t even worthy of it. And I had suspected that the Grand Inquisitor was always alive because as rage is a hell of an anesthetic. Also to be completely honest I teared up both when I first saw Anakin and again when I saw Tala and NED-B die.
@keplerthe33992 жыл бұрын
When Vader defeated her in lightsaber combat after toying with her, it seemed so Anakin Skywalker. And seeing Vader in that stance holding both blades, i just see Anakin. OT Vader would probably end something unworthy of his time quickly. I think they did Vader perfectly at this point in time, Anakin's aggression is showing. It's why he failed to catch Obi Wan & why he lost to him during that sparring match in the flashback, now I'm curious if they will still face each other once more in the finale, if they'll leave it at that symbolic meaning to the quote in a ANH.

Love the contrast in this episode. When he was training with Obi-Wan he was so focused on winning and using his saber in the duel he didn’t use the force really and it was his undoing. But with the Reva fight he didn’t even touch his saber and used nothing but the force until the end. You can see how he’s grown with the force and learned since then. And on top of that I love how Vader is just super strong giving me Starkiller vibes with the ship pull and tearing it apart. Barely broke a sweat fighting Reva and didn’t even touch his own saber. Badass. Best episode so far

@@TheAwesome45 yes, he's more powerful, but he hasn't learned the lesson yet. His inevitable failure in the next episode sets up that future line from ANH perfectly. When we last met I was but a learner. Now I am the master. He's going to learn the lessons after the next episode, but Obi Wan will still be 1 step ahead of him after he learns from Qui Gon. Anakin's/Vader'sfailure is his reliance on raw power, and not understanding motivation, ego, and emotion matter. He's the definition, at this point, of the hammer metaphor. Every problem to him is a nail. Just hit it hard enough and you win. He can't beat his own psyche into submission though, and fails to take the real lessons to heart.

My thoughts: Reva now believes Kenobi has abandoned her to Vader twice, and she has made the connection that the "Owen" she met on Tatooine has something that Kenobi was guarding. She's going to go take her vengeance on Kenobi -- since Vader has proven himself beyond her reach -- and Kenobi will have to kill her to keep Luke's existence a secret.
@corvus25122 жыл бұрын
I just have this awful feeling that Kenobi will allow her to survive even though she knows about Luke, it should be a death sentence like when Kenobi pulls his saber on Maul when Maul guesses his purpose for being on tatooine. I loved Revas story until she finds that communicator because I feel the show is forcing her into a situation where the only logical outcome is her death yet I don’t have faith that these writers will actually have her be killed by Kenobi.

24:00 yes, Hector. I remember how I *felt* when I saw that Order 66 scene in the theater. 2005. It was a completely unexpected twist of “just How Bad Is Vader” that I don’t think anyone expected to see at the time. We instantly understood the PG-13 rating because we figured he was going to be burned by fire, maybe acid… but killing those younglings in the Jedi Temple, that was Pure Evil. And it cut us all to the quick about our feelings about Vader. We instantly understood why that man had to die in the end of his arc, even if he was redeemed in the end. So yeah, Order 66. Pivotal moment that everyone can use as a touchstone. Heck, season seven of Clone Wars was commissioned just to tie that moment in (with an Ahsoka and Rex-shaped bow!) and pull together the animated stuff with Episode films. *chefs kiss*

I think the line “the light may fade but never forgotten” may come into play next episode. Obi wan made Vader look like a student still learning today. I’m very fond of the way they frame Anakin/Vader as a still somewhat immature figure at this point. It oddly humanizes him to be reminded that this is a period of immense change in his (still) short life. He’s not a moustache twirling middle aged villain yet. The thing I love about Reeva and Vader fighting is that he is honoring the rule of two when he amusingly tosses her half her lightsaber (He is beneath killing her with his own blade even finishing the job which is why he leaves her alive). He knows full well she doesn't have a chance but for his own amusement he gives her every opportunity to kill him. If she does she takes his place at Palpatine's side. She has ceased to serve her purpose she has ceased to be a servant and to quote Palpatine in Clone Wars she has "become a RIVAL!" She has every right to challenge Vader to the death as do any of the other inquisitors. One of the reasons they even exist is a constant method of Palpatine to test Vader's worthiness to be Palpatine's 2nd, any of them if they killed Vader would be worthy to take Vader's place, but even horrendously marred and in need of his suit he is still the Chosen One and above all of them.

18:50 - I think you're giving Reva too much credit, Adam. I'm pretty sure she's going with the whole "Revenge" line the Grand Inquisitor just used - I'm sure she feels that Obi-Wan used her, tricked her, and abandoned her (and he kind of did), so killing Owen (who she met and suspected in ep 1) and his family will be her final vengeance against him. Flip a coin whether she sees Luke and is reminded of herself and can't go through with it, or Obi-Wan is forced to kill her. Plot Bantha in the room being why Vader abandons his hunt for Kenobi after this. Nothing about pulling a transport from the sky and ripping it to bit screams "Eh. Let bygones be bygones. I'm over it."

He left her there to die, knowing that she would have never walked out of there alive...first obi says that he'd do the impossible to save those civilians, but then proceeds to use and deceive her, and that's surely NOT the jedi way....

A consistent throughline of Character Objectivity and finally some negotiation between Reva and Obi Wan. I surmised that as Obi Wan recalled Anakins temperament / use of the force /sense of achievement, it reignited his own relationship to the force. He was reminded of his duties to civilians, his empathy for others and a greater ability to read the situation in order to find tangible answers. Finally a clone wars scene mixed with playfulness, brotherhood but a match of wills and ultimately a sense of foreshadowing. There are pockets of writing that with steady ironing could be smoother but ultimately here's an episode which balances a great deal of elements well and does the greater world of Star Wars credit. Heroes Reforged - while I watched I pictured your reactions in my mind, especially regarding Anakins storming of the Jedi Temple. If Dave Filoni had overseen the dialogue for the clone wars (especially the kenobi/skywalker interactions) indaresay we would have delved deeper into their master/apprentice relationship.

Really really cool point in y'all's discussion about whether or not having the opening scene of ep1 as Order 66 with little Reva is too "heavy-handed" in terms of making the plot predictable. I really like Hector's point that maybe it would have been challenging for people who aren't die-hard Star Wars nerds to remember, and in addition I think it might have been a calculated choice to insulate the story from those in the fandom who would consider this reveal to be a "cop out" right at the end of the season had it not been alluded to at the beginning. But of course, those who would have called it a "cop-out" are likely the same people who are only happy when they're complaining about something, and I'm sure they'll complain about the way the story was told. ;) Unrelated, but I just want to shout out: 1) Moses Ingram for her fantastic performance as Reva. She really got to shine in this episode. Her face after the duel with Vader gives me chills. 2) Deborah Chow for taking us to church with this series. Star Wars has always been opera to me--dramatic and thematic! And we got so much of that in this series, and especially in this episode. Thank you to these two incredible women making fire Star Wars content for all of us to enjoy. :) Great reaction as always, and I'm excited for next week!!!

The quote is from Reservoir Dogs, not Pulp Fiction, it's Mr. Orange on the floor talking to Marvin Ashe (I Think that is his name) (I edited, because I had the wrong scene)

I think we're not gonna see Qui Gon in the final episode. Disney and Lucas films have some kind of force ghost phobia 🤣

I wanted to share my thoughts on Reva and Hala. My head canon is that Hola and Ned-B were in love. I go back to Episode 3 when she said He's just a loader, they don't allow them to communicate. Leia "But what if he has something to say?" Hala responds with "Actions are louder than words." And that final end scene between them. Idk. I got a secret robot relationship. Now with Reva, if she leans towards her revenge against Vader, she will be further from the light. It's her destiny to not be the one to correct the wrongs of Vader. It's Lukes destiny. Great reaction. Keep up the good work!

I like how Leia says, “I need a ladder”, instead of, “I can do it.”

13:14 You don't think this through.. If they in the ship, and Leia could not make it to open the door.. They be sitting duck when Vader and the troopers come in..

Correct me if I'm wrong but if this connects to force unleashed the rebellion didn't really start until later and I feel that the characters that we see now give motivation to who we see in the next episodes and or movies we have already seen. Like Tala dying battle gives motivation for the soldier and general she later became. We already know how these characters end up, maybe this is kind of filling some gaps that us long time fans. I don't care about the inconsistencies. I feel that as true fans of the lore we don't really care, it is fun to see the action and perhaps answer some questions we may have had. This was a great episode to date.

there is a level of irony, perhaps karmaic justice - Obi Wan didn't save Reva as a youngling, he also didn't save her as an adult either, and because of those decisions, now it's put her in a position to know about Luke (and Leia) and the kids will be in danger - perhaps if Obi Wan had come back to get her, she might have become an ally, but now her rage might take her further down the dark side.

I absolutely love the young Leia!! She is cheeky. This is the best episode so far. Reva written to be hard, cold and calculated to hide her secret.

Until action figures are made of them, Tala and Nedb at least have Lego figures incoming.

Going back to the trailer, i see three small rockets blasting off into space. I remember after the decision to separate the skywalker kids that, "Failed I have, into exile I go." it all seems a little too convenient that Luke and Leia's covers are blown this early, cause she becomes a big deal in the resistance before she is captured in a new hope.

Highly doubt Vader is going to find out what Reva knows, about Owen or Tatooine. Him knowing about the kids or even that Obiwan lives there would likely break continuity. I think there's going to be some confrontation between Ben and Reva and Owen/Luke?.

here's the thing though does reva finding out about about owen and luke break the continuity with the ending of revenge of the sith if vader and reva go to tattooine? the whole point was that the sith were never supposed to step foot on a place they would never being to look. Also Vader used the same move obi wan did to him in their little practice duel when obi wan lost his saber he took anakins, vader did the same to reva. i thought that moment was pretty cool cause he remembered

That was Tim Roth in Reservoir Dogs not Pulp Fiction but the impression was on point :D

Vader taking her light saber, tossing her half, tossing his half away and then reclaiming both halves is undoubtedly the most disrespectful thing I’ve ever seen in Star Wars history.

The flash back takes place before Episode II mostly because his right hand is ok and he’s still a Padawan.
