I love how once Joel committed to take her, the flip was switched and he was all in. You could catch glimpses of how much he cared before that and he admits as much, but his behavior with her once they leave Jackson feels like his behavior with Sarah. He's fully accepted that she's like a daughter to him now.

We saw a glimpse of that when he was at Henry & Sam’s graves, as he processed what had just happened. He came to terms with the hard truth that he would not survive losing a child again, even though he wasn’t ready to admit at the time that he cares deeply for Ellie. When he gives her the choice of whether to go with him or Tommy, it’s a complete cop-out. He knows Tommy is more capable than he is, but can’t let her go. So he gives her the out knowing she will take it. Because just as Ellie says she needs Joel, he needs her just as much.

This may seem like such a minuscule detail to some but as a woman, it genuinely means a lot that you 3 constantly shed light on equality and don’t shy away from “taboo” feminine issues. The fact that you kept in the menstrual cup scene in this reaction and discussed its efficacy was just such a small but cool moment; especially since so many men act childish around these issues. Thank you for being mature and understanding.

You have to understand Joel's perspective here. He took Ellie and this job then went through hell and lost Tess all because he thought Tommy was in trouble because he stopped responding back. Joel was on a "suicide mission" basically which caused him to lose everything, start dealing with his trauma all over again because Tommy chose Maria and the town. His anger towards Tommy is totally understandable.

If Pedro Pascal is not nominated for best actor at every awards show this year THEN NO ONE DESERVES TO BE NOMINATED!!!! This was perhaps my most anticipated episode of the season and somehow it’s BETTER THAN THE GAME! Jackson looks beautiful and Gabriel Luna is as perfectly cast as Tommy as Pedro is for Joel. But what really got me were scenes of Joel clutching his heart from panic attacks and looking up to see a young woman who almost looks like Sarah, and when he was telling Tommy the truth that he believed that he was going to fail Ellie and get her killed. When Joel was getting teary eyed I cried at that scene, but when we got to my absolute favorite dramatic scene in the game when Joel and Ellie are talking about loss I lost it. That was my most anticipated scene of the entire series and not only did it live up to the hype, it exceeded it. And just like the game it broke me.😭😭😭😭

I loved how they used a cover of the Depeche Mode song from the end of ep 1. The opening lyric “I’m taking a ride with my best friend.” feels so different between ep 1 and ep 6. And the tone of the Depeche Mode version fits the creepiness of going out into post-apocalypse Boston vs. the tone of this cover (by Craig Mazin’s 18yr old daughter btw) being so somber. The music choices in this show are just as good as the rest of it.

It's amazing how much we learn about Joel this episode. How he feels weak and helpless when he's losing control over his emotions. How much he needs to be THE guy to handle things and protect people, he was so jealous of Maria and Tommy for not only surviving but living. As Tommy said, they used to survive the only way they knew how and for Joel this is the only way he can survive and keep his feelings burried. I can relate to his panic attacks so much and it's so clear why he got them. It's so interesting to see how much control his trauma has about him and how he fails to make emotional mature decisions, because of it. he just gets selfish and a little aggressive. This episode and the things we learnt are going to be really important

I love that Hector is playing the game now! I agree that the changes the show makes adds even more to the greatness of the story. And it really makes sense. The creator of the game is doing the show. He literally is given a second chance to improve on his own story. And he's been doing that brilliantly so far. Plus, Craig Mazin is an amazing writer who also adores the source material. In a behind the scenes clip Neil Druckmann said "When we have an idea to change something, we look at it and its effect. If it is better than what's in the game, we make the change. If it's the same quality or worse, we stick to the original." Simple principal, executed perfectly.

I agree… the Joel + tommy reunion verse. Joel + Ellie relationship at this point… makes you feel like Joel and Ellie are more family than Joel and tommy (or rather that Joel and Ellie are closer art this point in time). Of course Joel and tommy are blood… but tommy has a wife and new kid on the way… and Joel has ellie. In the beginning of the season Joel says he keeps going for family (and says that is tommy) but now Joel keeps going for family but that now means ellie. No spoilers, but that concept is important for everything else that happens in the story. (Plus: Joel becomes a zombie when his daughter dies… just shambling through life dead inside… but Ellie is the cure)

Appreciate y’all, and these reactions. And I love Hector’s comments. Sure, sometimes they talk over bits it’d be cool for them to see/feel, but presumably everyone watching this has already seen the episode. We’re hear for their thoughts/reactions.

Two things, one i love how you guys really dig into the emotions and the dialogue of characters, not just with this but also the marvel stuff and mando. The action is cool, but you guys really focus on the dialogue and emotions and i freaking love that. 2….there’s just something about when adam breaks out in laughter, i might have missed the joke but I can’t help but laugh the same🤣🤣

Pedro's performance in this episode really cemented that he chose the correct vocation. I have only been affected by a performance like that a few times recently Beast of No Nation and Moonlight come to mind. I really liked the touch at the end, they play a cover of the same Depeche Mode song from Ep1 but a cover. it's 80s means trouble in a totally different way. Last 3 episodes are going to be bonkers.

Having gone through the game tens of times way back when and loving almost every little detail, it’s taken significant effort to watch the show and not automatically think “the game did it better”. Recognizing that it may be partly because that came first for me, I’ve wondered if people who experience the show first then play the game would actually like the show more, and while it’s tough for me to fully understand I really appreciate hearing that specific sentiment here!

It's always fun to see you suffering during each of these incredible episodes, just like the rest of us, but I especially enjoy your collective appreciation of all the talent by both cast and crew that make this brilliant game adaptation SO GOOD!

There are bunch of people standing to the left of that bridge! Right at the edge of the screen. I rewatched that scene after Adam mentioned it. Didn't notice the first time, nice catch!

Song playing at the end of the episode was a remake of the 80’S SONG first heard at the end of episode one when over looking a torn down Boston. “DANGER” ahead…

I’ve literally played the game hundreds of times but knowing what’s coming hasn’t spoiled the show at all, the performances & writing are so good you get locked into it & without realizing it your on the edge of you’re seat.

we ask questions like “i wonder if joel feels tommy’s responsible for Sarah’s death” other than watch the actual reunion and peep all the signs that Maria doesn’t like joel. The story is being told to you . don’t make your own 🫡
