It wasn't Ellie fault. But she truely believed she could heal him, she promised to stay awake with him and failed. She let him turn all alone, and I think it will eat her up. Imagine if Ellie went and told Henry? Henry could have said goodbye, they could have given themselves a happier ending. Ellie robbed them of that, but she is a child. And children make mistakes. Sam depended on her and she failed. Beautifully done

I love the tiny details they are adding and the attention that they are putting in showing how this world is effecting Ellie, something that they didn’t really show in the game. The choice to stay on Ellie’s face when Henry ended it was masterfully done.

It's not even that she "failed" not everyone can handle staying up for long hours. The human body varies from person in that aspect. Also, I think she really thought she could help. She knew he was bit, so when she woke up to tap him on the shoulder, she assumed he'd be okay, and let her guard down. She really thought things would be okay. But yeah, she is still a child, and she was naïve to put so much belief in being immune. Now she'll always be reminded that those around her can turn and she'll be left alone.
@BenSwagnerd Жыл бұрын
@@unhappybacon3292 heartbreaking, but beautifully said. It isn't a kid's fault to be tired. Especially in a post apocalyptic hellscape after running from parasitically possessed monsters, killing at least two of them to try to save people you have grown to care for. The comedown from that amount of adrenaline would hit anyone hard. She definitely isn't a failure, just a kid. And even simpler than that, a human being. Who needs sleep.

There's something unsettling in realizing that Sam was just sitting there because he's deaf. An infected listens for their prey. Even if he ever went to go full on clicker he couldn't. Ellie broke her promise and fell asleep, so he was just sitting there. Waiting, screaming from the inside. As his brain was slowly eaten away. And until someone touched him, or came in his view, he would sit there forever. And when Ellie touched him, Sam saw his own body attack her. Instead of becoming the superhero he always wanted to be. He became a monster, crying for his brother to help. He didn't even hear the shot. Just his vision slowly fading to black. He spent all night trying not to fall asleep. Then suddenly his eyes were slowly closing, afraid of what would happen once he woke up, but he never did. Bill and Frank's story was sad, in a stoic kind of way, but just like Bill said at the end, it wasn't tragic. They'd lived a full life. Here Sam and Henry had hope, a chance, and a whole life ahead of them. Henry was so good that he protected Ellie before even realizing what he was doing. It was instinctual. That comes from deep inside. But a little like Kathleen said, this kind of goodness, makes it hard to live in such a tragic world.

This episode was so economical in its storytelling. It had one episode to get us connected to Henry and Sam then kill them, and it pulled it off beautifully. Lamar Johnson and Keivon Woodward had such an instant, magnetic relationship that got you immediately attached to them. It was such a smart choice to have Ellie try to save Sam with her blood. That is very impactful for her internal struggle moving forward. And it paid off just how much Sam and Ellie had bonded. That line where Joel said that it’s easier for kids as they don’t have anyone that depends on them only for Ellie to lose Sam who depended on her. Such a great way of handling character with such small character work. The entire mirroring of Henry and Sam to Joel and Ellie serves to continue the narrative drive to the ending in such a deft way. Another banger episode. Also the Savage Starlight, Joel working his way through the street to get to the sniper, and the Bloater kill being just like the game was chef’s kiss. The Infected were truly terrifying in this episode. The clicker kid was so creepy.

When Ellie cuts her hand I felt like she didn't do it to make Sam feel better nor did she believe 100% that it would help. Sam is in a unsolveable situation, the whole world knows that if you're bit, you're going to turn, it's a law of nature, nothing you can do. Yet there's Ellie, so for me it felt like a mix of hope and despair, she wanted it to work, so after Tess not another person she likes has to die because of the infection. Ellie writing "I'm sorry" was not like a "I'm sorry you died" or "I'm sorry you were in this situation because of me" thing, it was "I'm sorry I couldn't help you", imagine being the only person in the world whose immune to cancer, everyone around you is dying from it and you can't do shit, she sorry her immunity doesn't mean anything. She is so determined to going west at the end, she wants it to make sense. It's heartbreaking.

The saddest part of this episode was that Sam asked Ellie to stay awake with him because he was so scared that he would go away alone and he did go away alone because Ellie fell asleep and if she had gone to Joel or Henry, maybe Henry would have had the time to say goodbye to his brother and find closure and maybe let Joel kill Sam instead of him and maybe find enough conviction to do it himself but endure that and live instead of committing suicide, but Ellie robbed Sam and Henry of saying goodbye to each other and let Henry find forgiveness and closure and I think she knows that too and that's why she wrote I'm sorry on Sam's grave....also this is why I love this show because it is ultimately about Ellie growing up and she messed up bad, real bad by Sam and Henry which kids do sometimes and this is just one step into adulthood for her but it feels so bleak and dark.

The dirving transition was very quick, but he just dove from Boston to Kansas City in two days on no or very little sleep (he pretended to sleep when they camped and then stood watch all night). That's why he was chugging coffee in the truck. They got to their destination and got into a car crash, gun fight, and had to kill people, then run through the city with little food or water, and climb 30+ floors. He was DEAD TIRED.

I personally have always been very set on the idea that I would just unalive myself at the very beginning of an apocalyptic/dooms day kind of situation (and hope my family decides to do so too), specially if it's something as cruel as an infection like the one shown in the Last of Us, or like 28 days later. The thought of having to live and see lose everyone I love, either to zombies, humans or themselves it's just way too much for me. It sounds cowardly but I can't fathom that kind of pain and fear, I would just rather not live through it, not even think of hope, just like, you know, take the big eternal nap on my own terms.

A lot of fantastic things from ep 5. -Ellie trying to heal Sam shows how much she really wants to be/find a cure. -Adding on more to Ellie's survivor's guilt because she actively tried to help Sam but failed. Goes with when she got bit and survived at the museum but Tess got bit and died. And you're really beginning to see it take a toll in this episode. -Talk of one's own loved one versus another's loved one. Henry forsake Kathleen's brother to save his own brother. Her argument about the world not revolving around Sam is not necessarily wrong, but at the same he world also doesn't revolve around her brother either. No one is right here, the difference here is Henry is not out there premeditating murder while Kathleen is. -A tragic ending compared to the possible long lived sad but happy ending of Bill and Frank. Joel has now seen both. -Henry being impressed with Joel and Ellie taking out two clickers while in the game, you're pretty much a fukin one man army taking out hordes. Adds a nice juxtaposition between the realities set within the video game and the television adaptation. -To me, actually makes a lot more sense in the TV series with the addition of Kathleen why the revolutionaries are so stubborn about chasing down Henry, Sam, Joel, and Ellie. In the game it really was just like "go away, why are you chasing us this far?" -Child infected. Glad kid Clickers weren't a fucking thing cuz that girl was terrifying haha. -Henry and Sam are brothers. Probably hits close to home for Joel since he has his brother Tommy.

Easily the best episode yet! Phenomenal with emotions, character building, world building and action all rolled into a perfect blend. That’s coming from someone who played the game.

the Doc was also the one Henry trusted to treat Sam, too... Doc was a big part of their life and they lost him at the beginning and share a hug. Doc also didnt give up their hiding location, he remained honorable and strong willed even with a gun in his face. RIP DOC

I really enjoy this series no matter what anybody says! I had hope for Henry & Sam so bad it broke my heart towards the end! To see Ellie crying when Henry killed Sam, she had a friend in Sam & him turning was heart wrenching! Do you guys think Ellie thinks she’s at fault for giving her blood to Sam?! No lie when Kathleen was killed by a child runner, (ironic) I yelled out “that’s what you get!”
@deathsaidhello Жыл бұрын
i think ellie feels guilty for sleeping when she said she would stay up with him all night. or how she had a chance to tell joel and henry sam was infected so henry could have a final goodbye with sam. or how she gave sam false hope of being cured in that instance despite knowing she was lying to him. she knew it wouldnt work, but it was done to give sam some kind of comfort in his final moments, like a childish thought of "heh, maybe it will work..." though we know its not that simple, and ellie knows this as well by this point. she lied to sam and thats what i feel she carries guilt for, even if she had a great reason to lie. sams death is going to solidify ellies resolve for her own survival not just for herself, but so she can actually help people like sam, someone who could and should be saved. also, fuck Kathleen... Henry and Sam were so close to making it out and she let revenge essentially be the end of her whole colony and was the direct reason for what happened in the end... great actor tho lol

Hey Hector, just to let you know man, that even if Joel, Ellie, Sam & Henry ran straight into the house, the Runners would simply run into the house also just like in the game. The Runners are still kinda human & they were the ones that were in the scene where Tess gets killed. Now what they SHOULD'VE done was simply run away from the area completely as soon as the first batch of Runners came out.

Despite knowing how this would unfold after playing the game, I was still invested and surprised by how this played out. What an incredibly well written show. Great stuff from you as always, guys!

I was convinced that Ellie knew full well that she couldn’t save Sam, but did it to comfort him. Such a good kid! 😭

she genuinely thought it might save him, let’s remember she’s a child too. she thought she could help.

They made this show too real for me to watch: Glad to see the series through you Hermanos b/c, despite the subject matter, TLOU is content of the highest quality IMO = it represents how all fans want their IP to be presented.

I don't know if it's just me, but the noise Ellie made when Henry shot himself was haunting... Sounded like something broke in her in that instant.

I'm a hardcore fan of the game and I'm blown away how they've been able to be so faithful to the source material and yet introduce new stuff that keep us on our toes. Bravo, Craig and Neil. Bravo.

I know it's a small detail but when Henry first look at the top window of the door, it reflect the roof of the laundromat where Ellie and Joel crashed and Henry looks like the superhero that Sam's drawing.
@roarkoo4648 Жыл бұрын
It wasnt Ellie's fault. But on her mind she thinks all of this couldve been prevented if there was a cure. The part where she put her blood on Sam's wound wasn't in the game which I though was a freaking great addition to Ellie character in the show. Such a fking grest masterpiece so far.

Henry was VERY WELL WRITTEN just like he was in the game, naive but optimistic, bit of a fool, survival of the fittest type but noble at the same time, tragic as well, he stole the show this episode

The Mist messed me up. I don't ever want to see that one again. This episode was so heartbreaking. It definitely causes one to question what they would do.

I think Sam being deaf made the part of why his infected self didn't immediately attack anyone or move and made noises from his spot more believable, compared to the game where he just stands there with Ellie right next to him.

I don’t think the game makes less sense, you see runners stand like that often while playing the game and some don’t attack straight away they are just groaning and hunched over so I’m guessing it’d painful, sam didn’t just stay there while she was next to him she walked in and then he attacked

I thought the bloater was CGI but it was fully practical! They put a 6'6" stuntman in a prosthetic suit and he learned to mimic the way the bloaters move in the game. That's just outright cool!

Every single episode i feel is my favourite..for the individual stories they tell or the march towards joel and ellie becoming what they become... every episode has scenes that are actually incredible.... Some like tess dying but the insane ptsd scene before hand.and the clicker reveal.this with the amazing infected scene and then sam n henrys tragic end.. and also kathleens bedroom scene... Its next level... Its literally TV at its peak..

i just realized that when the Bloater does the instakill to the Guy they got a slightly remixed soundtrack in the back that plays when you die in the game..
