On February 20, 2024, a 14-year-old girl was driving a stolen car that crashed into a light pole in Encino, California, killing a 16-year-old passenger and injuring herself and another passenger. The girl who died, Destiny Isabella Villanueva - Mercado, was previously in the news as a runaway. Her parents have gone through a lot.

@hizgrase The article said that when the police pulled up, they saw one person already climbing out the car (front passenger) and another person in the drivers seat. By that time, the smoke was so thick in the car that they did not see the teen in the backseat. It was then that the front passenger or the 14- year old driver who escaped mentioned that there's one more person in the car (backseat), and the flames were too engulfed. Hence you see the cop in the video trying to bust that rear window open.

They didn't know there was a third until too late. They tried to confirm, but the rescued were in shock, and the tint concealed them. If you watch the full video, they went above and beyond, braving a fire so large and close, for so long, that its a wonder their clothes didnt combust.

just a little note: if the engine is on fire, direct the fire extinguisher at the Engine! sweeping motions at the base of the fire, not at the flames🫶🏻.(I realize the interior was also on fire, and how extinguishing that would briefly allow them to save someone in the car..) No matter how stupid. It also doesn't make a "thing" out of the fact that these kids crashed that stolen car while fleeing. I just thought it was nice not to mention that these kids endangered their own and others lives with THEIR actions and the officers and photographer who went above and beyond to save their lives deserve to be recognized for that exemplary service....at the very least maybe next time this happens he wont be feeling under appreciated you know incase its your ass in the hot seat.
