As a child abuse survivor, the actions of that family made me bawl, they deserve the world. I wish someone would have helped me like that. They put themselves in real danger to help a child in need. I remember being the child who, even after a beating would seek my mother's comfort, it's heartbreaking to see in another child. But as much as this broke my heart, I felt so uplifted seeing people step up and step in. The woman in red and her fiancé need to be given a medal seriously

@@peggypasson8794 as an Iowan, I’ve discovered it’s most likely because the school systems do NOTHING about the bullying, harassment, and mistreatment, causing the kids to snap and say “this isn’t going to happen in front of me again.” I am one of these kids, my highschool, commonly known as su!c!de high because of this problem, does nothing but put up posters. I’ve told my school that the next time a bully goes unchecked around me or my friends I’M handling it MYSELF and guess what? They started doing something. Only two three years of getting on good terms with the principals and getting good grades before they decided to say ”we don’t want this kid to get in trouble, this is a good kid with potential” and actually start acting (and even taking my advice of harsher punishments like moving the bully to another class and after school detention instead of in school detention getting them out of class. This, exactly. The fact she kept throwing around "He has ADHD! My son has ADHD!" as some twisted form of an excuse to treat her child like that. I'm surprised not many people in these comments mention that. We can't argue what we don't know; which is how "difficult" he is, but I do suspect a lot of it is heightened with how he was raised. AuDHD can *definitely* be a struggle, but the mom on the other hand seems to be the difficult one here.

@@Rio-dg5on No. People are born with ADHD. It's a neurodivergence. It isn't a "response to trauma", you are born with it, like autism. It's a different structure of the brain and chemical makeup/production (in the brain). What you may be thinking of is the traits of ADHD "appearing", which doesn't mean someone suddenly developed ADHD, it just means the traits are noticed (which is different).

Thank you!!! Everyone still saying “he’s difficult, has ‘something’ going on clearly” etc etc. It’s called trauma. Get that child in therapy, and love on him, and give him all the patience and support he never had and I guarantee he will transform. I’m not saying he doesn’t have ADHD, but you can’t see it here. I don’t know any child who wouldn’t act like him dealing with that as a mother. Even at the hospital, he needs someone to sit with him and chat and give him attention. He is clearly acting out because he’s been through it and wants someone to pay attention to him. I feel for him, and I bet if red dress woman who was with him at the gas station was there, she could manage him. When he was there with her kids he sat quietly with all the chaos going on. Time and time again ignorant abusive people think they can beat mental illness out of a child whiles they're the ones making everything 100 times worse. She's all memememe and the poor kid is this and that. Poor kid doesn't stand a chance with that woman. Clearly "mom" never wanted the poor kid and he will think thats his fault. That's how he's feeling. I know from experience

That mom's probably got an undiagnosed processing disability, too. I wonder if she'd make better choices if she was more aware of her own frustration. That quickness to anger could be bpd or a bpd like trait of asd. I am aware of my quickness to anger and frustration that swells when things are not perfect. I take my autistic behind away from a situation to calm down and walk or smoke it off. She could probably get use from walking that anger off. Getting the blood flowing helps unblock that mind. She could be npd, though. If the dad passed the disability genetically, he might have been manipulated and easily controlled by a npd partner. That gaslighting she attempts is familiar to red flags I've dated.

He & his wife are so gentle & kind, people you'd trust with anything from fine china to plutonium. Just calm, pleasant, generous people. I spoke with him about how the child they've had for years now is doing - and this kid was a handful, always getting kicked out of school, etc. He's doing ok, but barely - and I heard my friend say for the first time ever & hopefully the last time, that given the opportunity, he would "mouse drag to select all the text, then hit backspace" the kid's bio-parents. Pardon my metaphor - but he wasn't speaking metaphorically. The more love these kids get, the vulnerability goes against what's now instinct. Love isn't enough.

Abortion is a selfless and kind act. It’s a medical procedure that terminates a pregnancy. Discontinuing pregnancy when you shouldn’t be having a child should be applauded. It’s a mature choice. It’s also very personal. Maybe if this crazy abusive psycho of a woman had an abortion, a child would have been spared horrific abuse. Poor little Brenden’s soul could have been born into a different body, with different parents, with different circumstances, and could have had a beautiful life. The reality is…The more abortion and birth control are limited…the more you’re going to see situations like this. It’s sad. Quality over quantity of life.

Not really. It's pretty common. Strangers help kids pretty reliably. If it's two adults fighting, most strangers won't get involved because they don't know what is going on, but if a parent is abusing their kid in public like this, most people will do what they can to help the kid. You'll notice it wasn't 1 person stepping up, it was most of the people in the store. And then they called other strangers (the police) to come help as well.

My son has ADHD, ODD, and bipolar disorder. I have NEVER laid hands on him or emotionally abused/belittled/or blamed him for things he cannot control! I’m a single mom also. What I DID do was get him into therapy, study his diagnosis as much as I can , and learn what I can do to help him when these things get too much for him to handle. Kids don’t act out defiantly for no reason. There’s either trauma/abuse/mistreatment whether it’s at home, school, daycare whatever. It’s always a red flag. She also doesn’t seem to understand his disabilities aren’t a free pass to abuse him. I kind of got annoyed how hard they harped on him being a difficult child at first bc the clips of him in the store and waiting outside with the other families he seemed like a little boy who wants his mom to play/pay attention to him (by having her chase him around) and craves socialization (by the way he immediately clung to the other people by physically holding onto some of them especially the woman in red and how he just wanted to play and be a kid outside when he literally just got beat). It was clear he has some diagnosis which would be tough for a competent parent to handle, but his mom also seemed to have some issues so she is already less equipped then most. I’m glad she has workers but all that shows is that they’ve had issues in the past and are in the system now. So I’m on the fence on what’s best for the boy in this one. It’s clear he loves his mom and doesn’t understand the severity of the situation at all but do you educate and monitor them for awhile and they reunite or do you just lock her up and put him in a foster home? There’s pros and cons on both sides and I really would hate to be the person making such a hard choice. I just hope whatever the outcome they’re both doing well. That is no way to live as a parent and no way to be treated as a child. She won’t ever take accountability if she doesn’t admit what she did wrong.

Just reinstated it’s time to go and picked her up and removed her. One nice stranger gave me a hug after she was loaded in the car. She could see I was crying. She put her arms around me and said “ It’s ok mama, we’ve all been there”. That moment is etched in my mind. My daughter is now 23 and a special Olympics world Athlete. ❤️

He probably believes that everyone treats their children the same, or worse than his mother treats him. He was likely told by his mom that his life would be even more horrible if she was arrested, or if he had to live with a foster family. The mother likely manipulated her son the same way she attempted to manipulate the police to get out of trouble and avoid responsibility for her actions.

We all know autism is a spectrum. If you didn't get diagnosed until adulthood, there's a good chance that your autism never caused you to act out this badly as a child... so what's the point of comparing yourselves? We should just be condemning the act of slamming children on the ground regardless of their disorders or the severity of the behavior. It isn't about who did and didn't get treated like this; it's about how this is an unacceptable way to treat a kid at all.

Yeah but it's just being human. I'm not a mother nor have I ever wanted to be one but I'd have done the exact same thing. A woman doesn't have to have "motherly instincts" in order to be a decent person. I don't hear people saying that the guy has "fatherly instincts". Maybe they're both just nice, normal people. Not a single person there had ever lived a day in her shoes. My parents were literally INSTRUCTED by psychologists and behavioral therapists at a very reputable hospital to throw my brother on the floor and restrain him immediately when displaying behavior like this child did. I'm not saying this is right but I do feel for the mom, especially if these were instructions she was given in dealing with her son's tantrums. I am the mom of an autistic son with ADHD and GOOD resources for dealing with their behavior are few and far between. He obviously isn't afraid of her, and loves her, if that's all he kept crying for and asking for was his mom. People don't have a clue what happens in families, and it's easy to assume the worst when you have no experience into those lives. While it's always important to report possible abuse, we must also try better as a society to be less judgemental about situations that you do not understand.
