I strongly agree with you on this point. It was great how he used the white bag technique to "impersonate" a more traditional style but then justified his reasons for keeping the lower branch in a literati style tree.

Yes, Mr Chan is probably of Cantonese extraction, from the way he spells his name. But as a side note, it is really the same thing. Chan is the Cantonese pronunciation, and Chen is in Mandarin. They are both written the same way in Chinese script.

Nice work Peter, I love hearing your thought process when tackling old neglected or misshapen trees like this, of course lots of people will leave their suggestions about how they would have done it better, however I think it is a lot easier for them to write a smart KZbin comment when they know theyre not actually going to have to do the work they talk about. Keep up the great work, I really enjoy watching these videos as do many others.

Beautiful bun-jin! I also have a fondness for the bun-jin style, even though I am not a Chinese scholar. My favorite was a bougainvillea that I did in Florida for a friend. I ended up cutting a hole through the trunk of the tree and elongating it so that the coal ended up as a crack about 4 in in height. Due to the diameter of the tree what year was approximately 4 in it looked very beautiful.
