I tend to hollow it out and plant in it rather than on it, I’ve managed to plant a few so far and all going strong with a weekly dose of fish emulsion as it such a free draining rock. My mums garden is rapidly running out of Tufa. Will try a Cryptomeria if only I could find one to turn out like the first one in your video saw a few snips and thought it looked great, then you stopped and said the same.

So beautiful, Peter. I just lost a thriving Contorted Douglas Fir (Emerald Twister) to a vole who ate the roots off. GRRR. I had no idea it was at risk in a garden full of dried cherries, acorns and walnuts. You could make a real work of art from that variety.

cryptomeria is probably one of the last species i would recommend for beginners, especially styling and maintenance - they're so incredibly brittle when wiring. they also require a lot of correct pruning, cleaning etc. but if you can manage them they have a huge potential to make the best bonsai out there

"Vilmoriniana" refers to Maurice de Vilmorin, famous french botanist, who introduced this cryptomeria in France circa 1890. The Vilmorin family has founded almost 200 years ago a company of great reputation dealing with plants and seeds. Conclusion : the Channel Sea is much wider than it seems.

I have a friend with one of these growing tall in his gardening room, with skylights. It always has a few brown branches falling off, it's slow growing, and he has never trimmed it! It's a very messy tree! I didn't know it could be done as a bonsai . . . will have to consider an airlayering or something if I want to try it too!

What is fun with Cryptomeria is that all the green present on the tree become brown-copper during winter. So don't think that the tree is dead... you must wait! It's a pleasure to see the tree changing with the season, it is what defines the charm of this species. I don't know if I prefere the tree that I bought from Peter in winter time or in summer time... May be there is some Cryptomeria who don't change color... This tree represent good challenge especially in forest group, a lot of potential for jin. I will try to make cutting next year. Thank you 🙏🏻❤️🇨🇵

No he does it 2 save dying trees. Moss and air really help the stress. I use a lot of deluded worm tea from my vermi bin. It greens any plant up especially green lol. Best and fastest way 2 thicken the trunk is in the ground. Per Mr. Chan
