Good morning Peter. Watering sounds simple, but if he doesn't do it carefully, he may be in for a nasty surprise. It is also an ideal time to observe the state of our trees. When I have time to spare I do it with a watering can and I notice things that I usually overlook, a nailed wire, an attack of insects, etc.

You need to let crape myrtle grow to flower if you trim it won’t flower that year. You can trim but not after summer hits they need the time to shoot and produce flower buds at the ends of the shoots. Hope I can help with this.🙂👌🏼👍🏼

I started watching your videos and really wanted to get into Bonsai. Then I realized just finding decent stock around me isn't very easy. I also wanted to purchase a nice tree already pretty much done but haven't found one anywhere local. Looking at what you have it amazes me how much inventory you carry. I have decided that it just isn't really feasible for me to get into this hobby, at least, where I live. The nurseries around me aren't very good, they won't sell a lot of stuff, too expensive or what they have are terrible quality. I guess my point is - I need to move to the other side of the pond so I can buy from you.

Question: I've always let my trees grow out until early summer before beginning to cut back growth...( depending on what I am trying to achieve..) This year, I have adopted a few specimens that I may not touch at all. ( 2 new Tridents and a Lace Leaf Maple ) Mostly because these are far more advanced then anything I've ever acquired before. They are not styled at all yet, and I have NO idea of what to do with these yet...so when would you start cutting back growth on Junipers and maples? I usually do my hard pruning in the dead of winter.

Crepe Myrtle are the tree of the South (NC) . They grow prolific here and in VA . I MIGHT BE THE ONLY HOUSE on my street that doesn’t have a Myrtle.
@marcusjohnvaughan53673 жыл бұрын
Where should you keep trees that have all the leafs cut off like maple you showed would you keep them inside in really sunny spot as long as the rooms not to hot just warm to recover would that be better then keeping it outside in the rain and cool nights

I'm wondering... isn't it more efficient to just install some kind of gentle sprinkler, if you're doing this twice a day for months in a row? You must have thought about this, so there's probably a reason why not...

@sanitychelle3 жыл бұрын
All plants are different, so it's not good to water them all on a schedule. Some will not need as much water as others, so with an automatic system, you'd over water some and under water others. Plus, watering by hand gives you a chance to notice things on individual trees.

About how much is the light filtered in your green houses? I'm curious because this is the first year I built display benches for my 16 young trees, and made a top for it that can "tilt" with 40% sun shade material. The reason is, I work, and dont get home until after 3PM, have no shade in my yard, and the summers here in VA can be brutally hot for weeks at a time, with very little rain the last few summers. So I have the top angled so the trees are in the shade after around 11 or 12 o'clock PM, but I can angle it so that the trees get more direct sun or less. I guess I worry about too much shade bringing on fungus, or too little shade burning my Tridents and Japanese maples, Lace leafs, and Elms. My Junipers seem to do well no matter what....LOL

Peter, I don't think I have ever seen any videos on trees that have weeping style branches (apologies if you have) do you have any opinions on those trees and how they are incorporated into a bonsai style?
@acer_p_bonsai3 жыл бұрын
Sir, I love your channel. Maybe you already know this: your unfortunate casualty trees can be sold for a good value for planted aquarium use. Aquatic gardeners use these bonsai skeletons as a base to grow aquatic moss or other underwater plants to make the appearance of a bonsai. Nothing beats a real tree skeleton! And the beauty of your training can “live” on for some time. Maybe a partnership with George Farmer?

11:53 Its amazing how the tree can stay binded for 200 years with all the radiation that exists in the world and then still make fresh perfect shoots when the environment allows it to grow again. I think we should be genetically engineering trees into space pods we can live in that make oxygen for us in outer space. We should try to make trees that can live and float around in outer space and its leafs are on the outside but we can be inside them giving them CO2. Then we wont have to bring so much oxygen with us. ALso: Nice shirt
