Thanks. At least the miniatures came colour-coded in red, green, grey, and cream. Made the game look much more appealing than a wave of grey like so many games these days.

Thanks. I didn't just want to do blonde hair, and I didn't want to give him normal white hair like I did with the dwarf's beard. I wanted it to look a bit otherworldly and strange. He should stand out on the board, at least!

@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Im just painting up some chaps with celestra grey, watered down nuln oil wash, grey highlight. Works quite well for a sublte blue/grey white hair.

@@superspecky4eyes Sounds nice. That's a bit like how I did the dwarf beard, except I started from Dawnstone (if I recall correctly), which is a few shades darker than Celestra. What I could have done for this elf, and what I'm going to try on a unicorn I have, is working from a Fenrisian Grey base (well, actually it will be Army Painter Wolf Grey, but same difference really), so there will be a lot more blue in the colouring.

That's a great box set. It's pretty amazing how fast it is to paint up LotR troops too, compared to 40k or AoS.

Thank you very much. Painting can seem daunting, especially when you look at the work of professionals. But it's a great hobby, and the aim should always be to paint something you're personally happy with. I'm no artist, but I can muddle along just fine.

@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring I gave in and subbed to Imperium. I was always sort of interested in the new crusade campaign system in 9th ed, but rather hesitant to buy more crap. The two reviews of issue 1 and 2 on Foyble though show that each unit so far has a full page record sheets for advancement in a campaign that looks to be far more detailed than even the crusade stuff is. The mix of models looks pretty good, except for sisters, but we shall see about them. Maybe they can be used as cannon fodder, gretchin style. I'll probably just paint all the marines as Ultras since I don't have any 40k Ultras at all and many of the minis are pretty specific....like a primarch and Marneus "Tyranid Chow" Calgar. I thought about the cost but you know, I spent $65.00 on a new in shrink 1998 Rhino kit a week ago so this will probably curb some of that extra spending if I actually try to paint and keep up. We'll see how long that lasts. I wonder if they'll do proper 3 ring binders and not that 2 ring mutant.....

And, you know, you can probably subscribe to half the run for the cost of more bullocks! I hope you end up enjoying it. I still wish they'd do one for Lord of the Rings.

I brought a copy of HQ recently and all the minitures where painted. At the time I thought it was a good standard, but having recently really gotten into painting I'm beginning to think differently! Looking forward to what you do with the chaos sorcerer and gargoyle.

@@wanntime1894 Ha. I like him (despite his huge hand). You don't tend to see that many young wizards in games, and he gives the impression he's just starting out in the world. He looks like he eventually grows up (and levels up) to be the wizard in Advanced HeroQuest.

I'd have to admit that "blue" for the hair was a surprise. But the end result speaks for itself. It turned pretty good. … BTW, I have often wondered, how many takes are required to roll two ones on your logo?

Thank you. Dice hate me, so my intro didn't take many takes at all. I was expecting it to take ages, so I didn't keep track of how many rolls I made, but I would say it couldn't have been more than 10.

Elf in red ... Christmas elf?

One Christmas I painted miniatures for two friends. One likes to play as a dwarf and the other as an elf. I sourced a portly dwarf with a hood and painted him in red with a nice white beard, and then I painted the elf in Christmas green.
