Herping UK: Search for the grass snake!

This time we stay on the farm and end up finding the first few grass snakes of the year!

I'm in Surrey south east where are the grass viper's

@@cherylphillips3146 not sure what you’re referring too there but in Surrey looking at range maps you have all 3 native species of snake. Grass snake (natrix Helvetica), common European adder (Vipera Berus) and the smooth snake (Coronella austriaca)

@@daddydan214 I don’t know much about that side of the uk although there is an invasive population of aesculapian snakes along the regents canal Other than that any big nature areas and wildlife reserves will more than likely hold the more common reptiles and if you combine that with looking on things like Inaturalist you should turn up a few places to look

@@daddydan214 there are places closer to London that have many more species than I do in my county. I’m herping on my private farm land and out on coastal paths mainly, the only tins to flip in the whole county here are ones you lay down yourself. Best advice is to go out and look for them or find people closer to you that know areas.

The only snake I can't find😂, am in Cheshire near winsford and there's supposed to be loads but can't find them as yet

@@philipashley1517 all about the tins and refugia for me in my area, I’d only end up seeing 1 or 2 if I didn’t have the boards and tins down. Vegetation is so thick here they’re almost impossible to spot out basking
