I have a 2021 model Y performance. 126k miles. No issues. Before the battery warranty expires at 120k I did a degradation test. I have lost 10% of battery life over that time and mileage. I usually switch out of cars at 75k. But between the depreciation and software updates I am going to try and run it to 200k. It is my favorite vehicle simply because it is so easy to own and drive.

Car salesmen give all salesmen a bad reputation. Most professions have a code of ethics they agree to follow but the car salesmen I have known, encountered, or had to do business with, seem to have taken an unethical oath. Its pretty much guaranteed that they are not trustworthy when buying a vehicle. I have always hated having to buy a vehicle because I always felt like prey when visiting any dealership. I was excited to be able to buy a car online only to get the run around when I visisted the dealer after making an appointment on their website to test drive and inspect the vehicle. He tried to get me to look at other vehicles and when I refused he finally told me the vehicle I choose online was gone.

Yea. If the EV is over 4 years old, priority #1 should be battery condition. On paper, they're supposed to last 8-10 years, but realistically, the magic number seems to be 5 years for when little issues start creeping in, plus battery replacement is stupidly expensive. 1st wave of Hyundai's needing new batteries are hitting and they are getting quotes of 50K+, while Tesla's are famously in the 25k region.

There is talk that Tesla will soon cut the price to even less than that because battery prices just went down another 50% this year. If you buy a new Tesla you get 8 yrs or 100K miles worth of battery coverage. In another 8 years of price decreases the battery pack will probably be a lot cheaper... the cost will be mostly labor.

It’s sad most people won’t take the time to look at that screen to see what the car is telling you. I’ll give you a perfect example. In the screen that you push the little red dot to go to a charging station. It tells you how many stations are there for you to charge. It also tells you how many cars are headed to that charging station. It tells you if one of the chargers at the charging station is not working. It gives you the number of which one is not working. It tells you the price of the charging rate at the time that you’re going there. Or time of day. And at charging stations that are at parking structures with gated entry. It gives you the access code so you could put it into the machine to gain entry inside the parking structure. Most people are in such a damn hurry. They don’t know how to use their own vehicle. Because they spend time with the vehicle. They’re too busy on Instagram or TikTok or picking their nose or looking at their purple hair. And this is where becomes unfriendly. You own a product that you know nothing about. Not even the basics. Like how to turn the car off when you’re done for the day.

The few things that I’ve learned with my model, S Tesla is that you have to go through the screen open everything and look at what is what. From setting up the car for your pet or camp mode. And even interior overheat protection. Look at the mileage section, determine if you want percentage or mileage. Or kilometers. You have to spend a little bit of time checking out the laptop. The car runs on. Then she becomes much more user-friendly. You have to explore what the suspension can be set for. What your regenerative breaking system Can be set up for, I have just about hit 219,000 miles. And once in a while, I’ll learn something other than that. I usually answer anyone’s question that approaches me at a charging station with a problem.

Sounds like you got a Model 3 SR+. The smaller battery in this one does tend to have a higher degradation with mileage than the bigger long range batteries. Part of that is simply "battery cycles" or the number of times the battery would have to be charged to get to 80k miles for instance. A battery that's 25% smaller is going to have to be charged 25% more. There's a huge aftermarket for any of the cosmetic stuff that concerns you. Tesla will also happily sell you OEM parts for anything that isn't deemed a "safety system". Designated safety equipment they want to handle in their service centers. Grease those upper control arm ball joints before they upset you one day by making the car sound like a horse and buggy. That's really the extent of maintenance I've done in 100k miles other than tires. Cheapish General Altimax tires with high treadwear numbers hold up really well - got 60k miles out of my last set. Thanks for being open minded and ignoring the political nonsense around this. We have to stop letting our leaders divide us.

I've been waiting for you to join the family! Welcome to the near future. You will be fine with the standard plus as your first play vehicle. The LR is nice if you want to get up to speed fast. I love my LR but I rarely launch it at all since almost all of my driving is on FSD anyway. I use the 240v for my daily charging and it is more than enough for my daily drive. I don't feel 110 is enough for most people if they drive anywhere but close by for work. It would barely cover my daily.

Nobody gets the eEPA range estimate of 240 miles. You can get it hypermiling, but nobody drives like that in real life. One of the most common comment from newbie Tesla owners are that they don’t get the eEPA range even on a new one. Also check the two different methods the car rates its range.

Insurance is expensive on ev's
@rogerstarkey5390
@rogerstarkey5390 25 күн бұрын
Think of it this way. You're an insurance company. You know that if there's a series of accidents, you're statistically going to "win some and lose some" as will your "competitors". It's going to even out, roughly 50:50. You "know" your costs. That's the base premium, then you add a risk levy and a "profit" amount. Easy. Then, cars arrive made in smaller quantity, generally more expensive and faster. BECAUSE of that, and that have features which means they AVOID accidents, but I'm *record* incidents when they do happen. NOW your profit balance is "off". "The Industry" doesn't like that, they increase premiums to cover themselves. However As specialist EV insurers arrive, automation takes off and economy of scale kicks in, EVs will become CHEAP to insure. On the contrary ICE Will become expensive.

It is VERY simple to figure out! Here, let me show you how. EV's are not measured in miles per gallon, but miles per kilowatt hour. That model 3 will probably get around 3.8 miles per kWh. He pays an average of 12 cents per kWh. If he puts 10,000 miles on that car, he will have used 2,632 kWh. He will have spent $316 for those 10,000 miles. Compare that to a Prius, getting 50mpg and gas at $3.20. He will have gone through 200 gallons of gas and spent $640 on gas. He will have also had to go to the gas station and spend that time. The EV, he will just unplug the car at home, get in, then drive, then come home. and plug in. He will save probably 300-400 minutes for the miles by not having to stop at gas stations.
@farmerinchico
@farmerinchico 25 күн бұрын
There isn't much maintenance required for the Model 3.. It's tire rotations at 6250 miles. Cabin air filters every two years. I'm averaging more than forty thousand miles on my tires. My 2018 is around 102,000 miles.
@davidbergerson
@davidbergerson 24 күн бұрын
And this is what people who don't have EV's want to ignore. They are PROUD to go have their oil changed. They start touting how awesome it is that they got 9k miles before changing the oil. They are PROUD that they can 'repair' the car themselves. I just sit back and go, "Why would you buy something you have to repair?"
@farmerinchico
@farmerinchico 24 күн бұрын
@@davidbergerson The funny thing is people that have never owned EV's are the most opinionated about them. There isn't much the average guy can repair on the modern ICE vehicles. The amount of maintenance that is required for them is crazy. Engine air filter, Oil filters, Fuel filters, Brake fluid flush, Transmission service. Gives me a headache writing about the maintenance...
@davidbergerson
@davidbergerson 24 күн бұрын
@@farmerinchico You speak the truth. People think that a 2020 car is the same as a 1970s car. That they can climb in the engine bay, pull the spark plug cables, pull their spark plug gap gauge and then put new plugs in. They feel that they can put the car on jacks, remove the oil drain plug and replace the oil themselves. Then they learn no, it is not that way. Then, when they learn that their 2020 ICE car is also a computer on wheels with tons of electronics and they do not have access to the tools to diagnose, they think they can get an ODB scanner to diagnose. Then, they realize that to change the ignition coil that is back by the firewall, that they have to take apart a lot of the body to get to . . . It goes on and on. IMO, people are stuck in a fantasy land that no longer exists. Cars are computers that happen to have wheels and a form of propulsion. It is WONDERFUL progress that we have gone this way because it gives us MUCH safer cars.

You need to go full charge and run down to about 0 a few times to do that. Or you can run several of the battery maintenance tests in the service menu.

By the way the Tesla's tend to eat back tires because the alignment of the wheels in the rear end it's wedged so when you're slamming into a corner it puts the tire at a right angle to the road service but when you're going straight down the road you only getting 30% of the contact surface that's why a lot of test loaners go through a set of tires every 15,000 miles the rear ends cannot be changed out they cannot be altered
