He's definitely right, architects often forget that buildings they design extend beyond the computer world (within which sameness abounds). If you've ever been to either of these two buildings you'd see just how amazing they are to experience, but not because they are intricate and complex, but for their simplicity which allows a much greater connection with what is actually around you.

Stupid can also be referred to as ignorant, architecture ignorant to its surrounding qualities.

Open the buildings to the " Amazing weather"...i live in Florida, it is August, 90 degrees and humidity is 85% thank God for those stupid buildings with air conditioning, this dude has never lived in Florida.

Sounds nice to say "we try to exploit the most 'of a place' and not make the most amazing most exquisite building in a place" but the results aren't very convincing. ultimately public reception of every one of these buildings is that they're a modern spectacle, hardly 'of a place', and seemingly an architect's ego-driven attempt at the 'exquisite'. It's so hard to sell anything categorically modern architecture (a cross cultural, global movement linked to capitalism) as vernacular or 'of a place'

He attacks Art Deco buildings as stupid?? Then puts up his ugly soulless whatever he calls it buildings? Who cares if Art Deco was North American (and it's not). Miami to Mumbai, Deco is wonderful.

The risk with many modern thinking of architecture is that it’s all a little just too smart and intellectual. I miss the innocence of the MCM Southern California approach.
