Been shooting boss this year out of my 20 exclusively. 4 hunts 28 birds so far. The boss is just devastating on them. My new favorite shell. Also love the Hevi X 4’s in 20 for long range. Killing mallards and honkers easy at 50-60 yards with the Hevi X. I put two bismuth boss then pop a Hevi x for the 3rd one.

I’m the same with the clean miss or the clean kill with the full choke. I’ll prob never shoot hevi anything just bec the pattern I get with my shotgun Kent does the best. I did a video on my channel of the pattern test of all the different loads. At the end of the day which ever patterns the best and kills is the winner!

I really don't like any loads that have different sizes or density mixes. How it shows up on paper is just one thing. At least with my single shot fixed cylinder choke it had a really bad shot string. I missed a ton of shots last year because of Browning wicked blend. My typical go to for anything past 20 yards is Winchester elite blindside. I miss pre COVID ammo quality.

I have heard that you need a tighter choke to shoot bismuth shot and that they have fragments from the shot with some choke tubes so that being said what choke tubes would recommend. Powermaster and kicks choke tubes have that stud ring inside of them which could cause fragmentation of some other pellet. Wondering if there were other choke tubes like jebs or Carlton that would be better. Thanks.

"Steel shot is about 7.8 grams per cubic centimeter (gr/cc); bismuth ups the density to 9.6 gr/cc; lead runs 10-11 gr/cc depending on its alloy content of antimony and maybe a touch of arsenic." So the real question is whether the extra potential velocity you'll get from the light bismuth translates into more foot pounds of energy striking the target if you have the option to use lead. If you're somewhere that lead is banned then bismuth is definitely superior to steel, but if you aren't, is the increase in cost really getting you an increase in performance?

@@MidValleyMercenaries there’s only two reasons for bismuth, older people use to lead and complain about steel, again another old problem is old barrels that cannot handle steel so pushes them to buy bismuth. Where I’m at right now just went into sportsman’s warehouse the 3” are 44.99$ and 3.5” are 49.99$ I just don’t get why spend so much for 15-20+ better range etc it’s just encouraging the long shot wing shooters to only cripple and wound birds vs a quick clean dispatch. Besides that price is to expensive even at your price you can buy 2-3 boxes vs one of these boxes. Just my opinion, more ammo keeps you in the game all season. At your rate at my prices 7-8 of your boxes of ammo is a price of a new Remington 870 vs having 21-28 boxes of steel shot

@surlyfan
@surlyfan 3 жыл бұрын
@@MidValleyMercenaries generally yes (Improved Modified IMO), most waterfowl chokes are listed for the constriction they produce with steel. Most factory chokes are listed based on a constriction for lead. Personally, I think IM is ideal for my needs - 296 pellets in my 1 1/4oz #5 Bismuth load. More energy per pellet. It’s been a while since I used a Kicks (I hunt an Over/ Under) but I like the constriction labeling on Carlson’s so that’s what I use. My setup is an IM first barrel and Full second barrel. Bismuth is legit, this is my second season running Bismuth only (Boss).

Hevi is behind the game on the bismuth. Boss shot shells already stole that market for cheaper. Unless you’re sponsored and get your shells for free, both Kent and boss are cheaper than hevi. Bosses 2-3/4” #5’s will smoke geese at 40 yards no problem.

No one bought or sponsored my case of 20ga. Hevi Bismuth that I just bought. I have no doubts boss is a great product. It’s bismuth no matter what company sticks it in a shotshell.
