You're the best Physics Professor Mr. Hewitt. I've used your conceptual physics book in high school with your college videos. Thanks so much for making these. You are an inspiration!

I'm student teaching at an urban high school within the Chicago Public School system on the Southeast Side of Chicago. I am using the Conceptual Physics textbook, and the students are always asking me why the girl always has to be Nellie Newton! lol This video will really help my students because they need something to help them develop the abstract concepts...Love this video and lil Nellie! Thank you!

If you both would stand on the center side of the ropes, they would have the same tension. Now the ropes act like pivot points and that's the reason why there is different tension. If booth of you stood on the center side of the rope, but still quite separated, there would be no difference. The rule would still apply though. But the tension of each rope would be one half of the combined weight. =)

Why are you not considering the Normal forces that the scaffold is exerting on the painters ?

dude this is not IIT india, this is a place where you learn concepts clearly, whereas your IIT india is a place where you make simple things so difficult that you end up achieving nothing.. except pass your umpteen exams lol, but then what do you have to show for it? show me one decent road or bridge in india. LOL

How would the ropes know lol
@carultch2 жыл бұрын
The ropes "know" because the board will tip until the rope settles on an equilibrium length where the tension in the rope that the deformation of the rope determines, is consistent with the tension that the scaffold board requires to keep it at rest.
