Thanks so much for the great review. I've been between the Jaja and the Jot Touch for a while, and your demonstration really clarified things.

great discussion and demo - have you thought about doing a timelapse demo of a more complete illustration?

The adonit has a rechargeable battery that plugs into a USB port. I haven't had to change batteries yet in the JaJa. I wonder if he turned up the volume on his pen. That could make the battery drain faster. Or maybe he has a defective one. Their customer support is excellent so he could get a replacement quickly.

New teflon coated tips are coming for the JaJa. From what I've seen it'll be a big improvement for any gaps and lag. Should be out March or so. Adonit Jot Touch has been updated to have more levels of pressure sensitivity. I'm interested in trying it because their build quality is so nice, but only if they offer a trade-in program. I'll post a new test when the new JaJa all metal tips come out (they are removing the plastic disc)

Thanks for reviewing this by the way, really helpful. Looking to go back to iOS and replace my Galaxy Note and really want a kick ass stylus for drawing.

Procreate is now updated to work better with the JaJa. It now connects with no issues. However, I can't get line width/ brush size to work with pressure. Even using the settings that previously worked before the update. I didn't demo using procreate in the first place because of the connection issues. I have even tried resetting brushes, turning off glazing, and fiddling with all size settings. Anyone get line width to work in the new Procreate update?

Does the palm rejection work on other apps
@SpilledInkMedia12 жыл бұрын
I recommend the JaJa of those I've tried. Adonit just announced a new Jot Touch with palm rejection and 2000 levels of sensitivity instead of 256 so I'm curious about that. Adonit definitely has the edge in build quality.

a good video, but how accurate are the pens? I just got the Jot Touch for my iPad 4 (using with Procreate and Sketchbook) and it doesn't seem to be drawing the lines very accurately ... instead of seeing the line at the point of the pen, it is off 10 or so pixels. It's hard to do accurate details. Is this common on all pens? Or is one better than the other?

Thanks for the video dude. It was helpful and concise. I'm a product designer who just got his hands on a new iPad Retina. The thought of digital sketching on the go is tantalizing. Have there been any big changes to the three models you tested since the video was posted?

What's the design flaw? I've been using mine with the teflon tips and it's still my favorite pressure sensitive stylus. When I upgrade ipads (to one with the new bluetooth) I'll try the newer Jot and the new Wacom

Another video a guy said the battery drains a lot even when you're not using it on the jaja. He said if he goes to sleep, he'll wake up and have to replace the battery. Is that true? Turning it off doesn't fix it? How would you compare the battery life between the adonit and the jaja? They both take AA's right?

Also do any of these have palm cancellation?

Jot Touch still isn't in wide release. Do you have one? I want to try it out but it only works via Bluetooth 4.0 - so iPad mini or iPad4 only. Good thing about JaJa is that it works on any tablet with a microphone and you can use it in flight on an airplane. I am glad that Adonit is still improving. Better tools help every artist.

I just want to help out people looking to choose a pressure sensitive stylus. So for me the main points are how the two pens deal with sensitivity and shading. I think those are the aspects most artists are looking for in a pressure sensitive stylus. A complete illustration tends to become more about the illustration itself and whether or not people like the end result and my skills colors their perception of the pen. There are artists better than I using nothing more than a finger.

Around 4:45 it looks as if the JaJa doesn't register. I have the minimum pressure set at barely touching the screen. I find that helps with it being too sensitive and putting down marks before I'm ready. I made the video late at night but I don't remember thinking anything strange was going on during the JaJa test. So if there was an issue, it didn't bother me or even register. I was able and have been able to draw well with it (using the new tips NOT the provided tip)

Thanks for the review! I was wondering if you had any experience with the pogo connect stylus and if you will be reviewing that one? Thanks again.

Did you watch in HD? It didn't come out as clearly as I'd hoped to see the mid tones. So, if you can see it in the video then imagine the difference in hand!

I am excited about what I've seen of the connect. However I don't have an iPad3 or 4, so I'd have to use it through my iphone. Less than ideal. Also, I tend to like the clear disc tips better for detail work as you can get more accurate. Their tips are replaceable so suspect we'll be seeing different tips from them. When I upgrade my ipad I'll definitely be trying out the connect. But, as of now, I am very happy with the JaJa and can get on with some drawing. Can't wait for Procreate to update!

The fact that it uses sound vs Bluetooth and is compatible with all devices that have a mic is a plus. I also like that it has over a thousand level of pressure sensitivity unlike "hundreds" that the pogo connect says on their site. I hope the styluses get better because the ipad basically becomes an affordable, portable cintiq. What kind of artwork do you do?
@SpilledInkMedia12 жыл бұрын
From tests I've seen of the pogo connect it has more even distribution of those hundreds of levels of sensitivity than the Adonit Jot Touch. The Touch, as you can see, has the sensitivity towards the ends (very light or very hard). So I think operationally it'll work better than the Touch and more like the JaJa (though probably easier to connect than the JaJa because of the bluetooth 4.0). I do comics and painted genre book covers mostly.

Isn't the Jot calbiratable? If so, does that improve the response. Also is anyone of the two more accurate? And which one is more durable? I'm considering buying one for my new ipad mini ^^

They looked the same. Couldn't tell the difference between the jaja and the Adonit based on your strokes.

The new jot touch (bluetooth 4.0) has palm rejection. I find the easiest and cheapest way is to buy some knit gloves (1$) and cut the fingers off all but the pinkie. Your palm gets cancelled but your fingers can still interact.

Yes. As long as your phone/tablet has a microphone and a compatible app. It uses sound to communicate the pressure levels.

Jot Touch is not calibrateable. Both seem pretty accurate as the disc tech is pretty close in design. Jot Touch definitely feels more durable fo the two.

So far not impressed with what I'm seeing about the Jot Touch 4. ilounge says "Adonit’s pressure sensor inside now promises 2,048 levels of sensitivity, up from 256 in the original Jot Touch. While we haven’t found the difference noticeable in regular use" Not a good sign if they can't tell the difference between 2048 and 256! I AM impressed with the new teflon tips that just arrived for the JaJa.
