This is a wonderful quilt. Thanks for explaining the diamonds with the border and the diamonds without. Sometimes it takes me forever to work out how to make everything fit. Thanks for sharing

Just spent some time, searching on line for Hexi quilt designs using all different working. Could not find any as lovely as yours, they are truly unique and beautiful.

Thank you Donna. This one was my own adaptation f the traditional insanity quilt. I have only ever found a couple of designs online that I like which is why I have created my own designs.

When you said it's my quilt and I don't care. My brain put it to the music if Jimmy crack corn. I love the outer most border on that quilt. I am definitely a scrappy quilt lover. Glad your studies are going well.
@juliethornton3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jo. I will explain more about my studies in the next video. I also really like the outer border but I would never make a whole quilt that way.....it was bad enough making the doll house quilt that way.

@@juliethornton what made it bad?
@juliethornton3 жыл бұрын
@@johilpert9149 That was probably the wrong word to use but I don't enjoy sewing hexagons together that don't actually make anything. The border on that quilt was fine because it was part of a bigger structure but just sewing random hexagons together is boring to me. Luckily the sky in my underwater quilt is part of something big otherwise it would drive me crazy sewing so many hexagons together that are the same colour without interruption.

This is a beautiful quilt!! I plan to make diamonds on a quilt, but I'm using 1in hexies. Large, I know, but anything smaller seems too fiddly for me... I think I'll stop at the inner row for each diamond.

It is great that you are making a diamond quilt. I made one using 3/4 hexagons and there is a picture of it in my video about my quilting journey. I thought half inch hexagons were fiddly at first but after covering and sewing together about 20 of them I got used to the size and now they are my preferred size to use.

Hi Julie, I’ve missed your videos! This quilt is gorgeous, I’ve shared this one as I love the triangles and random coloured boarder, thank you for sharing how it was made, I’m nowhere near making a quilt this size however may one day I will. Can I ask you what colour thread did you hand quilt with? Also can you please tell me how much time you spend on making a quilt in a day? I’m asking because I can’t imagine how to fit making one into my days with housework, gardening etc taking up my time, I would love to know your daily routine to help me get more organised. On another note, I’m so glad to hear that your studies are going well, I secretly knew that you would excel in your studies the same as you do with your quilting. Take care and stay safe down there in Victoria

Hi Debbie. Thank you very much for the great comment. In answer to your first question I tend to use a cream thread but I do have pale blue thread to use in my underwater theme quilt and I did use a very pale green thread on that huge mainly green quilt I finished last year. I find cream works well with most colours and the thread is so fine you can barely see it anyway. As to my routine. I must say I don't have much of a social life so I spend way too much time making quilts. I can spend anywhere from 0hrs a day to 5-6 hours actually sewing hexagons together or quilting if I am at that stage. Normally I would spend an hour or 2 of an evening covering hexagons and time during the day actually sewing when the light is better. If you have any more3 questions or want a more detailed answer please feel free to email me at the email address in the video descriptions. Thanks

Julie can you please explain how to finish off the outer edges. I have a hexagon flower quilt I'm making and still have all the papers in the outer hexagons. I'm unsure of how to finish it off. Do I take them out lay it on top of batting and backing then quilt and bind? It's probably pretty simple I just can't figure it out. Any chance you could do a video on it at all? Thanks for all you do
@juliethornton3 жыл бұрын
Hi Rholanda, Yes...you are correct. Take the papers out of the outer edge and then pin or glue the top to the batting and backing fabric....making sure they are both bigger than the hexagon piece. Then quilt everything then cut the edges straight before binding. I have a few videos showeing this whole process but the easiest ones are either my hexagon lessons number 5 and 6 or the ones where I made the placemat series. Bother these projects show how it is all done. If you have more questions just ask. Thanks. Julie
