Well Curt, first I have to thank you for sharing this method! I will begin by saying I am an amateur mechanic but will venture down unknown roads when I feel like I have no alternative. The alternative in this case was a $700 invoice plus transportation costs in today's high fuel cost environment for my 2005 BMW R1200RT. So, I took apart the plastics per your video (worked as described) and began making my Zap tool from some grill repair parts from Home Depot. Once I had my homemade zapper built, I was ready to go. I put the bike on the center stand, and hooked up the 2 leads to the 2 outside posts of the fuel display connector. I zapped those 2 outside posts 12 times, then I moved the leads to the inside 2 pins and repeated the zap process 12 times to those leads. I then removed my home made zap tool, reconnected the 4 pin harness and fired up the bike before reassembling. After about 85 seconds, low and behold my fuel guage came back and showed the fuel level in the tank correctly and the yellow triangle error condition was gone!!! Needless to say I was ecstatic to say the least!!! I am pleased beyond words and can't wait to share my results with my BMW mechanic, who was very skeptical to say the least!!! THANK YOU AGAIN FOR SHARING YOUR METHOD!!! 😃😃😃😃😃

I’m really glad it worked for you! As evidenced by the comments, it doesn’t always work, and my bike seems to need to be re-zapped occasionally. I have no idea how or why it works, but it beats going back to the dealership…. Again.

Just did this after watching two different KZbin videos. Went and filled tank. Modified an ignitor and no luck. Tried again making sure I had contact with the terminals. Worked! If I have to do this twice a year, it's worth it. I can't stand things that need repair but also won't throw money at the dealer for a temporary repair. Bonus is the yellow triangle that I was told was a low tire warning is out. Also, for those that are worried about ignition, research how industrial fuel tanks are welded for repair. As long as the heat is below the surface of the liquid, they weld.

Just completed this fix and it worked perfectly on the first try. No idea how long it will last, but for now I'm stoked. Thank you!

Thank you for posting this. Just picked up a used 07 RTP and learned the hard way that the lower end of the fuel gauge isn't working correctly. Was still showing gas in the tank when it ran out of gas! I'll try this later. Been busy playing whack a mole with neglected-bike issue.

After two tries I thought this wouldn’t work, but I left the ignition on for a few minutes while doing a few other things, checked my fuel level and beheld that the gauge was fixed. AWESOME technique! And a great video. Thanks!

Thanks for posting! For anyone else doing this fix, pay attention to how long it takes for the error to clear. Mine seemed to take even longer. 2 minutes seems like forever when you're staring at a blinking error message. Just as you think it didn't work, you will realize it did.

I’m glad it worked for you, and thanks for a great comment. Mine has never taken more than about 30 seconds but obviously it may be longer. Thanks!

Great video. Worked for me as advertised on my 2006. I added alligator clips to my igniter switch and tossed it inn the toolbox for next time. Thanks.

Great idea. I might do that myself, now that my fuel gauge has failed…. Again! At least I know how to fix it!

Boom! I'll spend the money instead of risking this and I would never advise someone to do this. Even since enough people said it works. How many did it fail in the worst way?

Hy. I also own a r1200rt and a 1200gsa...they both do this thing but aproxmatly 1 time per year My recomandation is:before you zapp it make sure your gas tank is full of gas, the bike is on its center stand and also the side stand is up.. (in running position, not down like when its parked) My bikes fuel gage work fine aproxmatly 1 year after i do the zip as i told you...) good luck

Curt Adams I’m going to try this on mine see if it works. I have a question though: do we have to empty the gas tank before since gas and electricity don’t mix well?

For all the naysayers out there, I just did this to my own bike again, and the gauge is working. For how long is anyone’s guess, but if it’s a year, I’ll take it. Don’t do it…. I don’t care. Go have BMW “fix” it for you.

Tried it several times. Each time it shows full all the time. It doesn't show the actual fuel level. It goes a couple days then the yellow triangle is back and it reads empty again. Perhaps not a true "fix". But worth a try.

I didn't understand well which pair of pins to excite first and which ones later, it seemed to me that first they are the two in the center and then the two at the ends, is this correct?

As I’ve said before, I don’t recommend that you do this! If you decide to try it, most people say to have a completely full fuel tank. That’s what I’ve done, and it worked for me. Good luck!

Same thing happened to me. It worked and reset gauge. I turned the ignition off and got ready to go for a ride. Started the bike up a few minutes later and back to square one! Flashing yellow triangle and gas pump icon.. registering as an empty tank. I might try zapping it tomorrow.

My dealer wanted a crazy amount for the part and another $400 to put it in if they did it while doing the fuel pump recall. More if I waited. Did you need to calibrate it or do anything other than replace it, and what all was involved?
@kawasakirule37073 жыл бұрын
@@clickrebel yeah I bought the part and I bought the gs911 Wi-Fi diagnostic tool and it took a few time s for it to calibrate the stick I put it in and wham bam all good again Sam.
@kawasakirule37073 жыл бұрын
@@clickrebel Don't forget you have to do the stick when it is dry so you connect everything and set it on your gas tank and then calibrate do not do it when it is wet it will not work.
