Psychedelic space rock at its finest. Just whoah man, I can''t believe in what I just heard. Such a calm, melancholic, hypnotic melody. I've never heard the studio recording of this song, but I had already read that it was some kind of another version of Hey Baby (New Rising Sun), which I thought it couldn't get any better... And then I find this video. It's been a long time since a piece of music spoke to me the way your recording of this song did. Only have to thank you for sharing your outstanding talent with the world. You have great taste in music. Be fine man, wish the best for you.

Hey Greg, Excellent job really capturing this song just as Jimi played it. It was recorded in 1969 at the Record Plant, but not released until 2013. For the most part most people aren't aware of this gem of a song. It's really magical to see you play and allow us to glean how Jimi blended a progression with many fills live. It was only 8 months later he was dead. Pretty clearly this was a live take and it's interesting that he was talking about himself in the 3rd person. His tone sounds kind of down, yet he pushes forward determined to spread love. "I'm coming from the land of the new rising sun" is said to express hope for "a promised land, a new beginning" It suggests he was looking forward to a better time. Jimi was deep and at the time of this recoding so much was going on: war, civil unrest in the USA, the civil rights movement and Jimi was profoundly affected by it. I believe this piece morphed to "Hey Baby." After all these years, I sill listen to Hendrix all the time. Best cover of this song on KZbin1 Thank you Greg!!

Was this an embrional version of what became to be Hey Baby? Anyway whatever's the order in which they where ideated, it's cool to note that Hendrix wrote a male version too, I didn't know this, you made me search on the internet and find out!!! The coolest thing would be if both track where planned to be released to be "duals" of each other. I'm also guessing he is the gypsy boy that is tryin' to spread around peace of mind and love. Another more mundane explanation would be that he changed it to a female version maybe because it would be more "commercial" (please do not misunderstand me! commercial doesn't mean bad or worse, as I said they're both very cool)... I don't relaly know, just guessing, hope somebody that knows more can help me with this!

From what I read, Hey Baby was recorded in 1970, Hey Gypsy Boy in 1969, but there's some different live versions also
@BarbarraBay
@BarbarraBay 2 жыл бұрын
Wiki (People, Hell and Angels album) says Gyspy Boy was recorded March 18, 1969. I used to really love the "doctored" version on the album Midnight Lightning, where the producers controversially added some backing vocals. Hey Baby was 1st released on the Rainbow Bridge album but obviously played in concert by Jimi many times. Wikipedia has a whole page on Hey Baby (New Rising Sun). It seems clear from there Gyspy Boy was the first development and Hey Baby was a later development. If I was forced to choose between the two, I would be forced to choose Gypsy Boy.

@@34bully that's right. He was very talented, worked really hard, was intense, had some good songs, great technique, never sloppy but he wasn't a creative force like Jimi Hendrix. Jimi wrote better songs and he never played the same way twice and the music just poured out of him and it was always new and his albums have become classics. SRV made some good albums but he didn't create anything new and he more or less stayed the same. To be honest, I really don't get the comparison at all. SRV was blues and Jimi was blues, rock, funk, psychedelic and so much more. Genius is a term that shouldn't be used lightly. Only for a very select group. You may not agree but SRV was not a genius in my book.
