Hi, so this automatically installs that cool picom fork? Or do we need to invoke another script for that? Also this is some amazing stuff WOW!

No. The cool picom fork gets installed with any of the custom window managers.

@@JustAGuyLinux Hmm so what are the 3 different picom confs in .config/picom/ ? theres .conf .conf.bak and .conf.good ? which of these can i edit to add new animations and adjust shadows etc? and will theses changes carry over to the other window managers or is there some behind the scenes symlinking going on? Thanks in advance!
@JustAGuyLinuxКүн бұрын
@@Wolves9001 .bak and .good are extras that I will remove. The .conf is the configuration that is being utilized. However, I don't think I am controlling the animations with that conf file. I think it is built into the picom fork being utilized. Good luck.

Very cool. Since I'm a tab hoarder, I've been opening a separate process of firefox , then once I'm done on a research sprint I'll save all tabs as bookmarks for later reference if I want. Tab stash has even more function and easier to group and name tab groups. Thanks for sharing.

I finally got around to watching this one. It's a good grounding after some of the WM videos confused me. I may learn more from playing with this than some of the window managers.

For brave/chrome, I suggest TabTabTab. It's the closest extension I've found to this. It automatically/manually groups tabs, and you can manage/save/restore them from its window.

Fluxbox is my WM since many years, I migrated over from Blackbox when the project started. I kept looking at Openbox from time to time, since I stopped using Flux's tab feature and toolbar some years ago, but in Openbox I never liked having to edit xml files for configuration, I prefer the Fluxbox text files for editing my root menu, my key bindings and stuff. I'm using my Fluxbox with xfce4-panel, xfce4-terminal, and of course Picom for the eye candy.

Hello, sorry for my way of writing, I use Google Translate. I have always wanted to try xfwm like Wm, your video makes me even more curious... I mean, in order to do this we start with a minimal Debian installation and then we have to install and configure Openbox (as in chapter 1) and then replace the Openbox by xfwm? To be honest, I got a little lost at the beginning, could you please guide me on how to start? Thank you very much in advance and greetings from Colombia

I want to try Geany but wonder if you could help me with something. I use ZSH and would like to, when I press F5, that Geany opens zsh to execute my python code. I have tried a few times to set this but there is very little information on how to get it working. This: zsh -e "/usr/bin/zsh %c" is not working. Any ideas? Thanks! :)
@JustAGuyLinux9 күн бұрын
Couple things and not sure zsh has anything to do with it. First thing, I generally don't use the geany built-in terminal. So in the Preferences => Tools Under Terminal: tilix -e "/bin/sh %c" Second, assuming you have python installed and are working on a py file. Change the Build=> Set Build Commands Execute: python3 "%f" (changed from python "%f")

Question: About fbmenugen and obmenu-generator, you seem to be using Debian or one of its derivatives -- but I could swear that ALL of the dependencies for fbmenugen and obmenu-generator were discontinued in Debian several years ago. In light of that, how did you get those menus on Debian?

No, you're good with only two dependencies and both are in debian stable. Here are the scripts I use for both menu generators. * github.com/drewgrif/bookworm-scripts/blob/main/install_scripts/fbmenugen.sh * github.com/drewgrif/bookworm-scripts/blob/main/install_scripts/obmenu.sh

I have taken parts of your install script and added the following so that I can chose the testing/unstable releases on the fly when I install otherwise it is default stable NOTE: link in the policy section for more info......... While getting familiar with NVIM, I have been playing with DOOM EMACS and I almost think I like DOOM EMACS just as much, if not a little bit better but still playing with both # If you are going to use other repos then you will want to prioritize them for updates and upgrades # These will be for your normal distro stable releases and updates echo -e "Package: * Pin: release a=stable Pin-Priority: 990 " | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/preferences echo -e "Package: * Pin: release a=stable-security Pin-Priority: 990 " | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/preferences echo -e "Package: * Pin: release a=stable-updates Pin-Priority: 990 " | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/preferences # This will be for testing repos which will have lower priority than stable and will not overwrite stable unless you specify it to echo -e "Package: * Pin: release a=testing Pin-Priority: 500 " | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/preferences # This will be for unstable repos which will have lower priority than testing and will not overwrite anything unless you specify it to echo -e "Package: * Pin: release a=unstable Pin-Priority: 10 " | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/preferences sudo apt update # to confirm above priroty changes took ffect do the following command #debian-handbook.info/browse/stable/sect.apt-get.html#sect.apt.priorities sudo apt policy # This is a less effective option to setting the default repo # echo -e 'APT::Default-Release "stable";' | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/my-default-release sudo apt upgrade -y # if you want to do all testing then use the following otherwise leave off the "-t testing" same would apply to unstalbe "-t unstable" #sudo apt update -t testing #sudo apt upgrade -t testing -y #sudo apt update -t unstable #sudo apt upgrade -t unstable -y

I switched to Helix, which is vi/vim/nvim written in Rust. My coreutils will eventually be replaced with the Rust coreutils. I'm using Sky WM based on the penrose library, written in Rust, slightly modified. Has a very minimalistic i3/Sway feel to it. C/C++ is just way too buggy and I think it's time we educated ourselves on the advantages Rust brings and raise a new generation of Linux users who are knowledgeable about the software they use.
