Yup, I was fortunate enough to visit it twice when I lived in Germany and travelled Italy. So amazing and it was back when I could still climb up the tower of Pisa and were able to go down into the cells beneath the amphitheatre

In fact, that was one of Rome's problems. They trained barbarians to eventually be conquered by them. Depending on the character's back story, it's not necessarily a DEI role, even though it checks BlackRock's boxes.

I was at one of his "Conversations" concerts a few years back and someone asked him about that. His response was hilarious, echoing our own bewilderment as to why they asked him to do that. Granted, he is a competent screenwriter among many things, but I got the impression he intentionally botched the task. Crowe told him he outright didn't like it, but Ridley maintained for years it was brilliant, shelved at Universal and awaiting the green light. I think we know that wasn't the case...

One thing about the scenes in this movie that stand out -- Gladiator was 24 years ago. Compare the scenes here to the scenes in Gladiator 2k, vs. scenes from Gladiator 2k and even a higher-budget fantasy/historical action movie from 1986. Progress in film arts and technology is slowing down dramatically.
