Interesting note: "Hey Jude" was a song written by Paul mcCartney for John Lennon's son Julian, who was being neglected by his father when he started dating Yoko Ono. Parental neglect is a major theme in Evangelion. This works on so many levels it isn't funny.

This is literally perfect. These songs connect in so many ways. First off, they're both 7+ mins long where the song part is only 3 minutes and there's a long ass coda at the end. They even use similar chords. I think the first couple are exactly the same. Also, the "na na na na na... hey jude" part has the exact same melody as the "tumbling down" part. They blend almost perfectly. But the lyrics tho, this is where they are just perfect. Paul McCartney wrote this song about Julian Lennon, John Lennon's first child after he was abandoned. He felt immense sympathy for him and wanted to song to encourage him to keep himself open to the world even though his dad had left him... much like Shinji... it's a little worse tho cause Lennon straight up said that Julian was an accident while Gendou did care about Shinji, he just didn't know how to express it. In a way, it almost feels as if Paul is singing to Shinji, trying to encourage him while Shinji is just falling apart mentally. The way they pitch Ariane's vocals make her sound a bit more boyish, emphasizing that it's Shinji speaking. While Shinji is singing about the world ending around him, Paul is trying to get him to let "her" into his heart. This her could be Misato, or Asuka. He's trying to tell him that he doesn't have to be alone, he doesn't have to "carry the weight on his shoulder [...] and let the world get colder". In my head canon, when Paul sings "you made to go and and get her", I imagine he's saying "get hurt" which fits in with the Hedgehog's Dilemma theme. The only way this could get better is if they pitched up McCartney's vocals or at least, made him sound more feminine. Then, the "hey Jude" parts could be from Misato's point of view, the person that became a guardian or parental figure to Shinji, the same thing Paul became for Julian. I love this so much

I love how there's so many cool little overlaps between the lyrics. KST: "So with sadness in my heart i feel the best thing i could do is end it all and leave forever" HJ: "Don't carry the world upon your shoulders" KST: "What's done is done it feels so bad , what once was happy now is sad, i'll never love again, my world is ending" HJ: "By making his world a little colder" KST: "I wish that i could turn back time, cause now the guilt is all mine, can't live without the trust from those you love" HJ: "Hey Jude, don't let me down, you have found her now go and get her " KST: "I know we can't forget the past, you can't forget love and pride, because of that it's killing me inside" HJ: "Remember to let her into your heart, then you can start to make it better" And then the rest of the song devolves into everything tumbling on down, and letting everyone down, and losing everything. All the while still cheering on Jude, still believing in him. These two songs are opposite sides of the same coin. One rejoicing in despair, the other encouraging hope. Both are equally beautiful.

(Insert cool ass bluesy piano) New context and mini-analysis: The first percussion instrument in both songs is the tambourine. The coda is when the string instruments are introduced. One last verse is played before the coda. Arianne -> Shinji during Third Impact Paul McCartney -> Misato or Lilith/Rei Remember to let her into your heart/The minute you let her under your skin/You were made to go out and get her (hurt) - Hedgehog's Dilemma Don't carry the world upon your shoulder - Shinji is a traumatized teenage God, thus carrying the world upon his shoulders. Is sung when Arianne/Shinji is singing about ending the world By making his world a little colder - All life on Earth is in the black moon and not on earth, making the world colder. Rest of the lyrics are Hey Jude's optimism, hope and motivating words clashing with Komm Süsser Tod's empty, hopeless, depressing and nihilistic lyrics. Hey Jude's lyrics sounds like it's Lilith/Rei encouraging Shinji to get Asuka post-Third Impact and to not repeat what he did before. Komm Süsser Tod's lyrics is Shinji burdened by the past, not listening to Lilith/Rei's encouraging words to go forward. Both song's codas perfectly clash with eachother. Komm Süsser Tod's downward spiral of nihilism clashes with Hey Jude's endless optimism. Hey Jude's coda outlasts Komm Süsser Tod's which I interpret as idealism and hope winning over cynicism and nihilism, meaning the world after End Of Evangelion is a good one with everyone getting a second chance at life... But that's just an analysis, a SONG analysis, thanks for reading!

can stop spamming this on every Evangelion related video. We get it. Netflix couldn’t get the rights for the song(s). The fandom is up in arms. Imo, as someone who just got into the series as a result of seeing it on Netflix, I’m not all that bothered by the ‘Netflix’ ending. I know there’s other shit the fandom has gotten butthurt with Netflix about, but for all the people who are going to be able to watch this classic, influential anime, I think the trade off for it being available here in NA is worth it.

This song has *always* reminded me of hey Jude. The part that goes Tumbling down tumbling down just has a very similar melody to that of Hey Jude. Often when humming one song I find myself switching to the other midway and viceversa

Anno originally wanted to use Hey Jude for the Third Impact scene, but didn't bc of obvious copyright issues, so the crew came up with Kom Susser Tod.

Funny enough i have have thought about these two songs a lot because they in a way are very simuler to each other. Starting of slow and then building up to a chaotic part where everybody sings a lot of instruments at the same time and yeah just though that was pretty cool
