I think the point of the powered up Zaku II and GM is that they are "sleeper" suits (like sleeper cars). They are using an old or budget chassis, but are completed modern and powerful under the hood so that you don't take it seriously until it's lapping you.

I think I'm one of the few fans who is UBER hyped from the G-Self 1.5. The original kit did have weak articulation but the sculpt was the far more pressing issue imo and this 1.5 fixed every last issue. It's flawless and I want two!

Seed Freedom takes place only a year after the end of Seed Destiny. The Strike Freedom, the Infinite Justice, and the Impulse were not that old by that time. Silver Phantom has these souped-up GMs and Zaku IIs fighting _seventeen years_ after their rollout.

​@@kokylee8098 And the RF series weren't really retrofitted old units: they were top-of-the-line machines made to cosmetically look like the old Zeon machines as a mix of Zeonic jingoism and as a smokescreen to make it look like at a quick glance they were running on antiques. Internally they were engineered with modern standards (like movable frames when OYW era MS were all monocoque) and built out of lighter and stronger materials than the OYW stuff. Those things were newly manufactured, simply put.

There's a whole faction in F90, circa 0120, that fields almost exclusively upgraded OYW Zeon suits. I forget how upgraded they were stated to be. They were relevant against Messers and F90s, though.

The tuned up Zaku and GM might be just corpo speak. It wasn't the first time that it was claimed that a retuned machine is basically the latest model wearing an old model armor. Like the Zaku II-RII was claimed to be a Gelgoog in a Zaku skin, but the fact was the R2 still only saw a limited run and didn't even have a generator to operate beam weapons. Even the guy who made it famous decided to go with a Gelgoog in the end.

the silver gm and zaku is the at home version of the Mars Zeons RF suits, which we effectively Geara Doga with quality of life updates for the UC 120's but with armor that made it look like classic zeon MS. It makes less sense to overhaul the old internals so much that they manage to bring them up to par to high end MP suits from 0093, rather than using a newer base and just making it look classic. This is all just fluff to make an excuse to show the classic MS for brand image sake and more recolors for model kits.

Well, I would politely disagree with you about upgrading machines to be on par with modern machines. I'm pretty sure it could be possible to do what they said they did with those old MS in Silver Phantom, because you can do it with cars. You can take an old car and put it on par with a modern one (except EVs, 'cuz internal combustion engines don't work like EV motors do). HOWEVER, to do such a thing, you need to have a budget SO high, that for a military organization, it would make no sense. It's just crazy fanboyz -with more money that they know what to do with it- that do that to their cars. For exemple, late Ken Block's Hoonigan Mustang or Vaughn Gittin Jr's '69 Mustang RTR-X.
