Finally, one of these experts has the presence of mind to state that if the cabinets go too terribly high, one faces quite the obstacle getting UP there to whatever is stored. I am 5'1" and I had my custom cabinets go all the way to the top but I have to drag out a ladder to get what's up there, and those items are rarely-used serving pieces.

Also regarding that second home, a child would love the bed tucked inside the storage cubbies. Kids LOVE stuff like that!! The female "expert" is way off-course on her critical score. The pull-down hanging bar was genius, and the price on those cubbies was very fair and well-spent at $3,000. Vern, you are flat-out wrong on this child's room. It's perfect.

Hmmmm. The third home's oddball room of everything could really use the closet part to be closed in somehow. I must agree with Vern on that one. I think it would visually clean up the room and give the eye a place to rest.

Hey Summer and Walt, I had no problem with the attachment of your table to the counter, as I live in a small home and have faced down that same opponent. In fact, attaching it was good to make SURE that space surrounding it would not be encroached upon. Don't listen to these experts. You knew what you were trying to solve and you solved it.

I liked the granite in the second home because it was like bringing the contents of a sandbox you played in as a kid inside, and bringing outside elements from nature in. I guess because there wasn't a lot they could criticize in that home, they had to find something, so they chose the granite. Just a guess. However, i am going to agree with Vern on his request that they install a backsplash of some sort. Backsplashes REALLY provide a fun visual interest.

I agree with Vern on about storage, it is paramount and you can always use a step stool. A darker ceiling does make a room look smaller, however, because it visually closes in on you. When it is dark, turn off the lights, turn on the lights if you don't think that is true. Your visual boundaries are much smaller in dark spaces. The first kitchen is the one that seemed off, color-wise, style-wise, overall. The second kitchen's cabinetry seemed a little cheap. The last kitchen nailed it. It is the most harmonious, the "contrast" actually works because it is tonal enough that it picks up the blue tones of the cabinetry's shadows.

The last house kitchen. Was way bigger than the other kitchens. Not a small kitchen as they referred to it as.

I like the cabinets and the back splash - it mimics the architectural skyline of the downtown... and the all purpose room is great - if you have to say what any room is - you need a frontal lobotomy. that is a pigeon holed existence that is force fed to you...wake up. they have a Vizsla - so their taste is impeccable. I also do not agree on the choice of the winner. House 3 being in the Historic district on a square makes it a home with the most potential resale value.... you may know design and she may be a realtor but has she watched Savannah home prices for over 30 years? nope. the classy chic and the nice husband with the walk in all purpose room with fireplace win my vote!!!!

Hate when cabinets do not go to the ceiling.

B Davis same! I can only imagine how much dust gets up there.

Not liking the dark wood ceiling beams on the third home's kitchen. I am a bit surprised these experts didn't question that aspect of this design. On another note, I cannot believe the female "expert" doesn't care for this couple's fabulous choice in their backsplash. I noticed their backsplash right away and thought it was a great choice. I went into shock as she began criticizing it.

I loved the backsplash, too! I thought it looked gorgeous and very different than the standard subway tiles we see so much of these days.

Why does no one take the countertops up as backsplash more neutral and timeless THAT'S what I'd do. That one backsplash was UGLY COLORS and you eant neutral.
