This is the episode that got me hooked on Hometown. I had seen bits of other episodes but I wasn't really into HGTV. I loved how Erin and Ben respected the meager budget but turned this house into a lovely place. And now Hometown is my favorite show on HGTV.
@eattherich92152 жыл бұрын
I like Home town as well as Fixer to fabulous and Good bones. The HGTV show I liked least was the one with Chip and Joanna Gaines (forgotten the name and am not going to look it up). There were always budget over-runs for which they had to turn to the clients. Find the savings elsewhere. Nobody needs granite worktops or custom cabinetry. However, there is something essentially wrong with all these home renovation shows and the projects all read as samey.

Enjoying these realistic makeovers. Cheap houses and small budgets. Creative solutions and great choices. Erin and Ben you guys are very entertaining and fun to watch. As a person who brought a cheap house over 20 years ago, everything was broken. No extra budge to fix things but, over the years one problem at a time. Our little house sits on a double lot in the City a few blocks from the River and over the Bridge to the Beach.

For the budget that reno is just brilliant and the location is gorgeous. I love how Ben always adds something custom that he has made. 11 out of 10 for this one as the house to start with was plain awful and ended up for a very reasonable price beautiful.

I think it was the water as much as the price that drew in the buyer. I'm not a big fan of open water and preferred the other house, which was bigger and possibly in better shape. Of course, you never know what lies beneath until the tear down starts.

Erin & Ben~ I love you both and you have outdone yourself on this home❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️ what I wouldn’t give to have a little piece of heaven like this. Kudos to the decision you had in repurposing so much of the would within the house as well as going out to the college and getting some and then reusing the beans from the front porch and putting them out back on the landscaping etc. I like the way you gave the owner stairsteps in the front on three sides instead of just right in the front! I can’t tell you how many times when I was landscaping that would’ve come in handy for me. Her view in the back is like no other and I’m an artist and I took several snapshots so that I could paint The scenes around the pond because the colors of the trees were breathtaking but the fog coming up off of that pond I was also stunning. I loved the Porch swing you made and you two work SO WELL TOGETHER ♥️♥️😊🌈 you are absolutely my favorites and I love your homey style that’s your name homestyle. Everything is just so comfortable and you think of all the details. You came in under budget which I’m sure the buyer/owner was very grateful for that. I can’t tell you which room I love the most because each one Remarkable; the kitchen barstool counter where are you did a Faux- painting to look like tile Turned out amazing!! I was a little doubtful but then when I saw the finished product that really was and impressive results❣️❣️ Ben, you always do yourself with all the special woodworking you do and you call me I need that this was your favorite house and I definitely agree with you… I think of all the houses you guys have done, for the money, this one is it and I know I am being swayed by the backyard to be honest. Also very smart of you to check out that bathroom window and make room for a stackable washer and dryer. This will be a wonderful first time house for this buyer. You guys are such a wonderful addition to your communities😊♥️♥️♥️♥️

A lot of buyers have no vision, and those looking at fixer uppers are particularly short-sighted. However, it does seem co-incidental that Erin's style jibes with the clients. My aesthetic is completely different. I don't like folksy or frou, frou.

I had a fireplace just like that and it had been inspected for termites. There were mud trails all over the outside of the fireplace. We didn't know what they were when we bought the house, but the termite company should have. Cost us some good money and the Termite Company got off scott free. Don't waste money on a termite inspection.

If you don't have a laundry room and are planning a bathroom, the washer/dryer is the place to put it. I live in the UK where dwellings are quite small, and the kitchen is nearly always the place for the washing machine.
@conniepleasantnails2 жыл бұрын
@@eattherich9215 YesxI see that quite frequently in European homes (a combo unit) I have a small utility closet I can use but here in America plumbing costs are ridiculous. Walls or floors would have to be ripped out and replaced ☹️

@@conniepleasantnails: I had the opportunity to site the washing machine - don't believe in dryers - in the bathroom of my last home since I was doing a complete renovation. I didn't have the budget or even room to do big changes in my present home, so the washing machine is once again in the kitchen.

They came in on budget, not under budget. And that $62,500 was for materials. All of the labor was covered by production. This house would have been a tear down, otherwise. They basically rebuilt the whole thing.

I must admit this show Erin and Ben they don't bother the home owners about extra money for complicated problems they run into during renovation. It seem as if they try to find a cheaper way to fix the problem. Or maybe that's part of the show to not show complicated issues on the show which is so annoying with the other renovations shows.

People don't seem to understand that living next to a pond/river means rats infestation. It's annoying but I rather live in the countryside far from any water source rather than a front lake view. Well I don't I have the sea but again even if it's really a beautiful view the humidity level,the salt eating up everything and the mold is also a huge problem unless it's verry dry and sunny most of they year like here in the Mediterranean climate . It's November the 8th and my windows r open with a blue sky and sun 🌞 and its cold by our standard.
