DrJayWay 420 oh yeah it’s crazy that he even puts out as much as he does I’m just saying it’s been a few years since we had a series. I’d like five 2 hour episodes a year instead of 2 five hours and I like his long narratives like death throes or blueprint. The addendum idea to give us stuff in the meantime is the best so far I hope it sticks

@@lastword8783 yea the genocides in the ottoman empire on christian minorities wich still continue this day needs to be explained. There is a good book about the armenian genocide by a arab guy who travelled to turkey in these days
@lastword8783

This is kind of complicated but I feel like most people the only thing they know about the ottomans is that they committed a genocide against Armenians and WW1. This is an empire that lasted as long as the Western Roman Empire (600 years in total). There is far more to them than just those events. The fact that they allowed non Muslim minorities to live within the empire (something which for example the Spanish would never allow of non-Christians) is quite remarkable.

Nice interview but sadly he practically only speaks about the British and American sides. Also, he praises Lloyd for pushing to go for an all-out victory and not settle for a deal. Can you please explain what is so good and praiseworthy about that? Didn't that in part sow the seeds for WW2? The Germans were not the starters of W1 so why this feeling of justified vengeance? It's still "us" vs "them" and as Germans say thinking in "Feindbilder", literally pictures of enemies.

It never ceases to amuse me that British historians claim Commonwealth (Indian, NZ, Canadian, and Australian, but in this case not many South Africans) victories as "British". Mr Hart is an excellent historian, so at least he gave the Canadians form Canadia a mention en passant in this interview. Bravo sir. Edit: I should also mention the East and West African soldiers, those from the Caribbean, and the Gurkhas of Nepal. And the many thousands of Irish soldiers.

The way this guy talks, the way he phrases his sentences, the way he portraits his standpoint let me think he is still fighting his ww1, and has done so for the last hundred years. The reason why your blueprint for Armageddon series is so successful, is the fact that you can ignore the origins of the poor bastards getting ripped apart from both sides, and since the world finally stops listening to the propaganda and the common sense tends towards a tragedy, every side wanted to happen, rather than a one-sided all-out-aggression attack, listening to sentences like "the Germans were the bad guys here" or "the military leaders did nothing wrong; they weren't killing us, the Germans were killing us" throws you back as if this man himself had made decisions like an all-out-front attack. You had one line between the 20+ hour of content you provided, which came up over and over: "when can you start blaming the generals for not being able to learn?" And this statement is undermined by your guest in a way, I can't listen to it any longer than the first half hour. I'm not too stubborn to accept other peoples opinions, but for an historian, his attitude is way to one sided. It's a problem I realize to occur often, when watching or listening to non-German sources of history. Maybe because of the different background non Germans have, so sorry if this comment is getting a big longer, but let me explain it in that way: The Schlacht im Teutoburger Wald (or Varusschlacht) was the foundation of Germany - well more or less (didn't you just do a podcast on that?) - but since "Germany" has never really been the one big united nation - neither before nor since - I don't feel like "WE" did anything. So I certainly didn't fight the Romans, nor did I mashinegun down rows and rows of Frenchmen. And in every sentence, this guy is saying, I feel a basis of exactly that. "We laugh at the french for surrendering, even though we never had those losses". See the difference? the pronoun "we" describes two entirely different generations, different Subgroups if you want. It's like saying "we Italians owned the world for thousand years". Doesn't help them now, and every time someone points out the cruelty of the Romans (like you just did with HH60) no one would even consider comparing them to the Italians nowadays. Go 1000 years further and see Mussolini and... well, common sense is different. I think it is at most important to a historian to understand these differences. He is talking about something that was over 100 years ago, and yet, he's painting an enemy, he's diverging German and British troops, he's almost pro war and supporting a front which isn't here anymore, and hasn't been for more than 3 generations. And don't get me wrong. Stuff like this is all over the place in pubs and when meeting with friends, I heard stories and views, and interpretations of the past which no one here would even think of, just because I'm from the bad guy's side. And it's not like someone's denying the holocaust or any historical fact - Those retards do, and will always exist - but coming up with reasoning and an understanding how things turned out to be. It's a more psychological approach, and the reason I love Dan Carlin despite disagreeing with almost everything he says, is that he can clear his view from the old burden that propaganda carries the old allied up to this day - sometimes at least. But this is pub gossip, not an international podcast with an audience of more than 11k people on the first 2 days. For something that size - and if you're not some random little youtube comment like this here - you can't roll up the old blame game like that without getting backlash from at least anyone. It's okay that you think we were the bad guys, because ultimately, I don't care what you're thinking. But you're in a position of teaching values and opinions to others. Let me state something you will agree upon: the Germans weren't the good ones. Why? because their unification of Germany stems i.a. from a war against France. But we weren't the bad guys either. Because it was our turn of the game, which was going on for thousands of years.

No idea if you read these Mr carlin, I hope you see this one. Please don't be disillusioned, I follow you pretty close, I know you've not been releasing as much content, I understand why, but its times like this we need your common sense more than ever. I much prefer listening to hardcore history episodes than your podcast, I'm sure you're still working on things for us there. What I really want to say though is this, many of your fans are ... Just that, fans of you! Many are fans of your work as well, in my opinion, you don't have many fans(or enemies) of your views... I may be wrong about that, but I still contend that, we, the mass you reach, need you more than ever... And I genuinely don't think your views put you at any risk. Risk of losing audience is non-existent, risk of offending people may be higher than ever, but offending someone has no effect on the offender only the offended... You have no responsibility to not offend... In this world of today, it may actually the the "job" of people in the media to offend people... Id say it is their job to offend, and hopefully open the eyes of the offended to reality, thus freeing them from a life of self imposed victimhood. Thank you for any content you release, you have many loyal fans just waiting for more!
@jasminewood395

Also I'd like to add that I really think it might be in your vest interest to release more episodes to you tube. I don't know your income at all, maybe your very reasonable fee of 1 freakin little dollar adds up and you earn enough as is, I hope so, its deserved! But I KNOW you would reach a much larger audience here on YT, monitize the videos and just upload them here and iTunes... Maybe a few months on iTunes at $1 each and then free after that ... I don't know what might work ... What I do know, and I know that you know it better than me, is that you're fighting piracy... You earn nothing from that, if anything its a loss as I know you must put some effort in getting them removed, but that's a fight that can't be won...At least here you'd earn something from ads. Ill shamefully admit that I have downloaded several series myself ... I keep saying I'm going to delete them and buy them from you... But the months roll by and I've yet to earmark that tiny fee you ask... Just food for thought. Thank you again ! Your work really is great, and I can attest that its helped my family ! I can sit with my 15 year old, play any HH series and were both glued to it... Time well spent together and we both know more than we did before listening ... Its lead to many good conversations as well.

So no mention of Sir John Monash the Australian General who perfected the combined forces strategy that started with the success of the Hamel battle, and then commanded the Australian Corps who spearheaded the battle of Amien considered to be the first decisive win of the British of the war. He planned and commanded the Battle of the Hindenburg line which after was won was effectively the end of the war. Hart seems to paint a very British view of the success of the war, indeed he needs to give credit where credit is due. Even if it is the to "colonials".

The Americans entered the war with the same naivete that everybody else had when they started fighting. It was a brutally hard learning process for all involved. Fortunately for them, they didn't have to feed themselves to the grinder for as long as the Europeans and their colonies did.

They didn’t have to feed the grinder at all. Pershing could have just let them train with the allies, who had all of the experience and knowledge, instead he wanted the US army to stand alone and wouldn’t let them be subject to the command of another nation. Pershing condemned those men to death. Shame on the entire Wilson administration!

Americans aren't nationalistic we are patriotic. Because our loyalty is to Old Glory and The Constitution we can all be deeply loyal to The Republic and its always a good thing. It isn't based on blood or the land but on our common constitution, so our patriotism is for all colors, creeds and classes.
@dshepherd107
@dshepherd107 2 жыл бұрын
It is not always a good thing to be deeply loyal bc it implies you’d stay loyal even if that republic began behaving like an evil colonial empire, or one that secretly interferes in other countries political affairs by working to oust/replace their government leaders w/ those sympathetic to that republics interests. Blind loyalty to dmt thing or any cause is never a good thing. History has proven that time & again

Dan for real, (this one sounds fine) but why don't you just ask your phone guest to just record the conversation on their iPhone on their side while you talk to them. Heck, any smart phone made this decade would work. Then ask them to send you their recordings then you just have to line them up. I stopped listening to the Tom hanks interview because the audio was so poppy and crackling and I just couldn't take it. I am sure you have thought of this and have an excellent reason why you don't do it that way, you're the pro. Anyways, I don't mean to sound salty, love the show.

I'm shocked at the "westwashing" of history that this historian portrays. Am I totally tripping? Does it not seem like Dan is just going along with something that is quite clearly sucking up to a very specific American audience?

Well, you’d be wrong. It’s not feelings. It’s historical facts. Do your research. Dan & Hart have. Click below the video & there’s a plethora of names of resources.
