My Grandpa's name was Ralph, Ralph Strohbehn. He was a farmer in central Iowa. He raised corn, beans and cattle. I loved listening to Ralph. I have a great appreciation for the elderly and I can tell you do too. There's nothing better than listening to old time stories. I miss my Grandparents a lot. I'm 56 and I'm a Grandma 8×'s now, so I have an even greater appreciation for what my Grandparents did for us as kids. They always kept us for a couple weeks in the summer and of coarse the Holidays were huge, with all the cousins at Grandpa and Grandma's house. Everyone stayed yhe whole weekend and it was mighty busy. They had a huge two story stucco farm house and I loved sleeping on the sleeping porch in the big feather bed! Memories that I still hold dear today and my kids do too!

Thanks for the comment and watching the video. It was a great honor for me to make almost 40 videos with Ralph Robertson that I filmed over a two year period. Since his passing in December they have been a surge in his video views here on KZbin. The series was first posted a few years back on Facebook but at that time the KZbin Channel only had about 2k subscribers. Now that I’m at over 100k subs “The Greasy Hollow Memories” videos have found a whole new audience.. Come along with me to Greasy Hollow, Tennessee and meet a real Appalachian storyteller that became a living legend. Below is a link to the Greasy Hollow Memories series if you would like to watch more. John Ward kzbin.info/aero/PLhiXVG-s0EOmwKTuG8AZ4_qRBG88DxNtL

I love the elderly and I have many elderly friends. We don't have many of them left from these days . Their story's are becoming like a faded memory and if we don't take the time to be still and listen we'll lose the blessing of a beautiful generation and seen things through their young eyes ! "Kodiak moments from the heart." That's what I call their storys..

Both of my Pap paw Passed away long long before I was born, I found out at 54 years old after both my Mother and Father passed away that myDad who raised me wasn’t my Biological Father. He passed away in 2006 at 72 years old but I did found a few family member who we are going to meet in September 9,10,11 so I am super excited. Poor Ralph is getting Old. A huge difference since you first started these videos. I sure love them that’s for sure.

As a smoker for over 55 years Mr Ralph gives me a reason to keep lighting up. Someone once asked me if was still smoking. My reply is always the same “only when I lite one up”. We watched ur channel off and on. We love it. The best part is when you were at Ralph's home and you were frying frog leg. I am so amazed at how good he gets around and the memory he remembers everytthing. One of the main reason I am writing. I am always the 1looking in the background all the pictures on the wall and i look up to seee this picture of an old house the backyard had a clothesline a couple trees it is a picture i have had on the wall in my living room..we have often wondered if who painted it and what was the home nothing fancy. It gives me the calnnest feeling .you will have to let me know where you got urs. We have one just like it. I am going to take a picture of it so you can see what I am talking about. I will take the picture later so i will send it as soon as i can. Youu are doing a wonderful thing people just don't care anymore especially when it comes to an older person they're afraid they might be asked to help in some way. It takes a a special person to do what u are doing. Hope to talk to you soon.

Not sure how I got here but subscribed. You all are blessed to live in such a beautiful land. My Grandpa's (coal miner) family left Harlan KY for a "better life" in Dayton, Ohio... I guess 70 to 80 years ago.

My grandpa passed at 93 and worked in his home shop until he was 91. He was a military veteran tank and equipment mechanic and then worked 30plus years for sonoco and was a supervisor. we lived next door and my parents worked so my grandma and my pa raised me and my sister. I'm 44and my sister is 41. My pa told me a few years before he passed that my grandma wanted me to have there place and when he passed after probate I owned it. I live there now since 2018 with my wife of 26yrs and a son 18 graduated honors. In technical college and just today started working at the local food lion grocery store to make a little money.I work out of pas same shop on small engine equipment lawnmowers ATVs and other equipment. We not rich but comfortable and happy! All that matters in the long run!
