Sergei, you are a great story teller and I am really enjoying your bio. Life in the Soviet Union is a mystery to most of us.

The construction toy that you played with, was actually copy of Meccano construction models, originaly created in 1898 by Frank Hornby in Liverpool, England

Sergi, I also had a similar bicycle with a "coaster brake." I always wanted to take it apart to see how it worked, but my Dad said no.
@MoaningMiniАй бұрын
I also had the same system with the reverse brakes. A friend took it apart but did not understand how to reassemble it. He gave it back in pieces and I reassembled it. It was a shaft which fitted into the rear wheel hub and consisted of a long shaft with many 3 point shims mounted across the shaft. Each shim was thick sheet metal and you lined up all the shims then inserted it into the rear wheel hub. Somehow it worked to slow down the rotation of the wheel.

when i was a real estate broker in Moscow back in 1995, my American clients loved when I picked up in a brand new LADA-2106, styled after FIAT from 50ies. They couldn't believe it was a brand new car ;)
