Splendid video, Dove. The fact that this game was shadow-dropped, and quickly got a massive amount of praise, is nothing short of impressive. I can tell that the game as a whole was put together and grown with love in every spot. Each character has a style and voice all their own, with any of them guaranteed to become someone's favorite. They all feel genuine, with next to no parts that feel out of place. The game shifts from 2D animation to 3D seamlessly. The music, both in and out of streamer mode, is chosen and composed with love behind it. The writing is genuinely funny, with each character passionately brought to life with their VA's. Everything moves to the beat, and it gives the game so much life and energy. That one detail alone shows that the heart behind this game is so strong. In terms of combat, its mix of rhythm-based timing and action-based combos manage to mix together like chocolate and peanut butter. It takes some getting used to, but once it clicks, it is a delight. While the game may not have a lock-on, I found the magnet chain to be a good workaround. The summons add so much to the combat, with each one helping each fight feel fun to go through. Add on each of the special moves, combos, and customization, and it all comes together to make each new gauntlet or boss a thrill to go through. I love your analysis on each of the characters, while also showing how our heroes contrast the villains. While the villains were all self-centered, falling from their own hubris, greed, lack of focus, etc., the heroes grew into better versions of themselves by working together and supporting one another. I can say in full confidence that this is one of the best games in recent years. It has my full respect, and I can only give nothing but love to the folks who worked on this. I am glad that you spoke about searching for the games that captures your interest, rather than wait for it to drop into your lap. It might take a while, but when you do reach it, it could wind up becoming an all-time favorite for you. If it is not there, instead of complaining about it, you can try to bring it to life yourself. Far from easy, and certainly not something you can do alone, but the journey you will take will be nothing short of fascinating. Hi-fi Rush may not have clicked for me (I am rusty when it comes to action games, and had some IRL issues, that I am still dealing with, that made it hard to get back in and try again), but I can definitely tell that it clicked for you. You showed in crystal clear detail why this has become one of your favorite games, and it has been a delight to watch and hear you gush about it.

Hiya everyone! Just leaving a small "Editor's Note" here. This video was a blast to make! Hi-Fi Rush is such an amazing game and everything about it from the style, story, characters, etc. Just SCREAMS early 2000's games/TV shows to me that I just couldn't stop playing it! And I don't normally play rhythm games! I made a tweet earlier this year stating that Hi-Fi Rush is so far... My favourite game of 2023 and I STILL stand by that! I, like Dove, can't recommend this game enough! So please, give it a shot! The ending AMV... was the most challenging to put together! Haha! Not because it was difficult to edit or anything like that! But, I wanted to make sure I used the right footage in the right moments! You can also tell in some parts, I tried to time it together with the drum/guitar beats too! So yeah... It was fun! XD Anyway, I think that's it for now! I hope everyone enjoys the video and as always, it's been a absolute pleasure working with Dove again! Take care guys! Whalley.

Excellent video! I really loved the part of analysis on The Perfect Drug's lyrics as a description for some of the characters. I think this the majority of licensed boss songs do this is which is crazy. Rekka's "Free radicals" feels like it could be pointed at Chai from the perspective of Rekka, or pointed at Rekka from the perspective of everyone else (chai and even her colleagues who don't like her at all), Both Chai and Rekka think that they're "radical" as the lyrics say, but they haven't done anything to remotely prove that, to the point where this obsession with being the hot shit is fanatical. "Fast as you can" just feels like Mimosa is the one singing those lyrics, they nearly perfectly describe her "Wolfgang's 5th symphony" obviously doesn't have lyrics, but it's an EDM remix of a classical song which really fits Roquefort's character, classical being the financial, bourgeois side of him, and the edm remix being the robo werewolf.

I rarely ever see a game review go into character and story analysis. This is great stuff! I actually ended up playing Hi-Fi Rush in episodic sessions of two levels per day. I immediately knew this was a game I wanted to savor. Best feature: Rhythm-based parries. So snappy! Fave song/Boss: Roquefort/Wolfgang's 5th Symphony. I've been obsessed with that song since college, honestly!

Remaking my comment because I've had more time to figure out how to properly word a longer form comment. TL:DR Best game ever made Now for the long part, Hi-Fi Rush came into my life out of nowhere and every second I spent playing it was enchanting, exciting, and engaging! It truly felt like a game made to appeal to me and everything I love in not only games but in media period I'm still replaying it and going through it months after release, it's a true modern classic and I really hope that Dove's video will encourage more people to play the game because it's so worth it.

Absolutely *_phenomenal_* video, Dove! I found this review by pure chance, and man, it's one of the best Hi-Fi reviews I've ever seen. Not just because of how much you delve into and appreciate the naunces at work, but also because the editing and gags had me genuinely laughing so hard throughout the whole thing, lol. And those colorful graphics over each of the Vandelay Boss' was very neat (it's the sort of thing I loved to do when editing my own videos back in the day, though they're long gone now), so props to the editor for going the extra mile! Last thing, but.. that ending was so well put together. It perfectly captured the inspiring "feel good" nature of the game, and felt like the perfect capstone to this review. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and recommendations!

You know that whole tangent you did about how hot Mimosa is? That was literally me when I first saw Rekka. And the only thing I love more than us gushing about which characters we have a Hi-Fi Crush on is idea of shipping Rekka and Mimosa. Seriously, never saw that ship prior to watching this video and I honestly wish I saw it sooner.

While I didn't exactly feel the same love for Hi-Fi Rush, this review was great as it was made by someone who actually appreciates the genre that it's attached to, and KNOWS what to look for when talking about it. Refreshingly down-to-earth, not gonna lie. I'm glad this game exists, as I feel like this might rejuvinate some people who, due to literally everything that has happened this decade, might feel incredibly jaded, irony-poisoned and cynical. This game may be the "whitepill" antidote for the general mood of apathy and cynicism towards gaming as a whole. Please, please, PLEASE play it. I hope the people who love it, remember it as 2023 rolls on.

I 100% feel the ending. When I wanted a fun, speed action platformers that have a focus on combat, I played Spark 3. When I wanted to play an anime fighter that flows amazing both offensively and defensively with very distinct and fun characters, I played Under Night In-Birth Heck, this can even apply to fan games. Want a fun 2D Mega Man Game, play Mega Man Rock N Roll. A fun and challenging love letter to both the series, and the creator's father. And it's free. The world of gaming is what you make of it. And as long as you expand your horizons, you can make it bright and vibrant.

gonna jump on that fangame point to also shout out Mega Man Unlimited, it is my go-to example on how you do a fangame right. They even have an optional level you can unlock who's Robot Master is based on the Yoku Blocks (for those who aren't as versed in official names, those are the blocks that appear in almost every game that appear in set patterns that you have to do timed platforming off of)

Cooperation is the through line of humanity. No one human can’t do everything alone. In that regard, this is a very human game.

Hi-Fi Rush does seem like a game I'd really enjoy (despite the fact that I have no rhythm at all...) and I look forward to playing it...once it comes to a console I own or get a computer that can run games at more than 9 frames per second. But this was a fun and enjoyable look at it and I can tell it's a game that means a lot to you
