While that’s a common thing about drumming I’ve heard for years I’ve come to believe it’s false (based on myself personally) I’ve noticed when I played on a smaller kit my tempo was better and the basics were more solid, but when I transferred to my current big kit with 7 toms my fills and creativity got better and I find it much more fun that way!

I studied classical percussion in university, my teacher always told me if you can take this snare drum, and make THIS sound like music on its own? Then you can make anything sound like music. Those words always stuck with me
