Historically, I only watched soccer during the olympics. The idea of "that was fun I should watch more" never managed to get off the ground, so to speak. But as a Canadian, Paris was such an emotional rollercoaster. Watching the team fight so hard to overcome the drone scandal was inspiring, and they played damn good despite the emotional/mental toll. Their performance against the odds is actually what finally made it click, and I've been watching the NWSL ever since. I felt so bad for the team, it's nice to see other players/countries show them empathy/acknowledge the shitty spot staff put them in.

What does Sam Kerr mean to Australian football? Everything! I don't think we would've won hosting the WWC last year without her, we wouldn't have got to the semi final without her, and I don't think we'd have the team we do without her. The Matilda's have had an everlasting impact on our country; more people are playing and watching the game then ever before, and I truly believe it's in large part, because of Sam Kerr.
