My 1914-dated G98 is a WWI bringback by my great-grandfather who found it in a bush in France. He told me put a stocking over it and said it was his Springfield as he took it on the troop ship going back to the U.S.

My great uncle Forrest was an infantryman in WWI. He told me that he had a "long barrelled Luger". He said that I could have it if I drove out to his home in Sweet Springs Missouri. I was living in Northern Calif at the time. So I jumped into my orange Ford Pinto and drove out there. He met me at his front door with the Luger in his hand. It was mint. Looked bran new. Had two clips. He also gave me his Colt 1911 and his web gear! I wore that gear years later when I was a soldier. I even qualified with that old Colt, even with its antique fine sights. I still have the guns. Really wonderful old war horses.

As a German, i always love when Herr Hickok covers any German Guns. Always fun to see Americans enjoy any of our Guns (but also sometimes when they hate some). What does a good Kar98K go for in the USA anyway? Here in Germany you can sometimes even get a really good one from WW2 for around 600-800 Euros (so like 650 USD - 870 USD). Of course the ones that were used in WW2 specifically get a higher Price. Others before 1939 go for cheaper usually. Just curious and i'm sure you got a damn ton of them in the USA Prost & Cheers from Berchtesgaden in the Bavarian Alps

A pre WW2 k98k in good condition is 2000$ in Canada and Russian capture is like 1200$ or more they are not cheap guns over here. Anything WW2 German commands a very high price in the Americas.

@@justacentrist4147 That's interesting! I almost assumed North America has more Examples than we do here, but apparently not. But i'm happy to see they are that popular! Rifles got ridiculously long and powerful at the end of the 19th Century because military leaders thought that having weapons with an effective range greater than those of your opponent would win battles. But it got to the point where the rifles were capable of ranges far beyond what any soldier could realistically achieve in combat, and over time they finally were made more practical in terms of size and power.
@WALTERBROADDUS2 ай бұрын
