Just several decades of a "misspent" youth and adulthood handloading and shooting. My father was was at Normandy, so we had guns around growing up. He let me walk the woods with a 9 shot .22 Revelation revolver and a pocket full of bullets when I was Eleven. I don't have dad, but I have that revolver, and I still walk the woods with a pocket full of bullets and a favorite "piece." Hard to choose which piece, though.

I've probably had less trouble with Glocks than I have with my revolvers over the years. It's just the aftermarket barrel that has the problem. If you just leave a Glock the way it comes in the box, it's pretty much unbeatable. I like revolvers, too, though.

I have both and enjoy them both. I recommend the same. The G21 is wonderful, but it's pretty thick for carry for some people. But then again, the 1911 can be very heavy in a an all-steel configuration. The biggest difference is the thickness.

@Jarhead484 , I recommend trying them both and see what you're most comfortable with. The G21 IS a bit thicker than a 1911, so it might depend on how you're going to carry it. With IWB carry, thickness is very much a factor.

I got a 460 Rowland conversion for my gen 3 G21, it's the best thing I've ever done to a Glock. I'm not a fan of dropping aftermarket parts in Glocks but the Rowland conversion is so worth it, just a barrel, compensator and spring. Also the best part is that when you shoot 45acp though a G21 Rowland conversion, it tames the 45acp so much you'd swear you're shooting 9mm through a G21, it's unbelievable. Also the G21 Rowland shoots the 45 Supers and it makes that round very pleasant as well. The 460 Rowland is basically a 44 magnum in a 13+1 G21, with a 1575 fps velocity and a 1000 ft/lbs of energy, but it's way more controllable and faster than a 44 magnum revolver.

@faffaflunkie , The polygonal barrels create more pressure if lead builds up at all; that's why Glock advises against lead. I've known people who have done it and just kept them clean, though. The two problems you mention with Glocks (magazines and sights) have never shown up with the numerous Glocks I've owned and shot extensively since about 1986 or '87. I don't question your experience, though. I've just been lucky maybe.
@JustinOpinionChannel11 жыл бұрын
I had the same issues with a Lone Wolf barrel in my G34. I also had to seat the bullets deeper to compensate (and these were FMJ). I had to go about .040" deeper, and then I had no further issues. As you know - you have to be careful of the pressure increase when doing that.

No, they are all stock triggers. I'm not one to change out triggers to get them lighter. I carried and competed with a Glock 23 for many years that had a New York Trigger in it. I didn't mind the extra weight because it had a clean break. A crisp break is mainly what's important to me.

Loved the info. I just installed a Lone Wolf barrel in my Glock 21 and had the same failure to 'seat' issues. It seems to relate to bullet seating depth. I removed the barrel and just dropped my reloads into the chamber and they rise just slightly above the barrel end, the factory fmj rest flush. I shoot these reloads in my 1911 without any problem. It seems none of the flat part of the lead can extend beyond the case mouth. I will do some more testing with my reloads.
@hickok4513 жыл бұрын
@4427feb, I've never broken even one of my extractors. Of course, I usually don't have problems with rounds being chambered either. If it were a problem, I would have discovered it for myself during my last 50 years of shooting, I think. Experience is about the only teacher I pay much attention to these days. :-)

@hickok4515 жыл бұрын
That seems to be it. I looked at the LW barrel I used in this video just yesterday and discovered that it had a thin sheath of lead across the top of the chamber. That was causing the rounds to need a palm pop to knock completely into battery. So, it seems the seating depth is possibly okay now, but for some reason lead is coating the top of the chamber after 15 to 20 rounds.

It likely IS exaggerated to some extent; however, I wouldn't tempt fate. It's not one of those deals where the gun makers recommend not to shoot handloads just for liability reasons. There's actually a real reason to avoid lead bullets, at least in any quantity. We all know how some people are: they'll intend to clean the barrel well but then neglect it. BOOM!

@noway6324412 жыл бұрын
In Canada, we are required to have aftermarket barrels for some of the smaller glocks because Canada has restrictions on barrel length. The logic is either that short barrels are too easy for criminals to conceal or that by prohibiting short barrels the gov't was able to confiscate a lot of guns; it depends who you ask. Lone Wolf is a popular option for these after-market barels, but they aren't the only option.

Terry, if you haven't already, go for it. I love my 1911 and SIG P220. I picked up a Glock 21 Gen 3 not long ago and finally got it to the range. Not a lot, but virtually none with Glocks, other than my screwing around with non-Glock replacement barrels. Oh, I trust revolvers, too, but they are not perfect, of course. Some of the things I've experienced over the years: I've had powder residue get under the extractor star and not close completely. Timing issues occasionally. Trigger rebound springs act up. I carry a glock 23. It has a trigger safety which is kinda dumb imho. The internal safeties are the ones that count. If you have a good holster that covers the trigger you have no worries of having one in the pipe. Honestly if you do not have one in the pipe there is no point in carrying as it will take you too long to chamber a round on most defensive encounters.

The G21 I shot a few days ago was shooting low, at 7 yards, I had to use a 12 o' clock hold on the 7 ring of a paper torso target to hit the centre ring. It was still a great gun though. Glad I finally got to shoot it after waiting nearly a year after I turned down my last opportunity to shoot one.

I have seen exploded Glocks (though I never saw one go off) and when it happened, it was because of load bullets in the stock hexagonal Glock barrel. These barrels load up with lead, and dangerous overpressure can result. I bought a Wilson match barrel for my Glock 21, and it shoots lead bullets with no problems. It also it the most accurate 45 I own -- noticeably better than my Colt Gold Cup and my Combat Commander. The blocky Glock stock sights are probably helping with this, too.

@DrGreenfun , They're like an AK, it doesn't take much babying to keep one going. You might check out my Glock cleaning videos, but they are easy to take care of. I had a G22 when they first came out; I think I might have been the first person in Tennessee to shoot a .40 in a pistol match, but when the G23 came out, I traded it. It's great that enough time has passed that the G22 police trade-ins are beginning to show up more often. Should be great deals on a great gun.
